'Greatest generation' veterans sweep past barricades at memorial in their honor

Pretty much the way all veterans feel about this silly president and his ignorant, childlike BS.
did they feel this way when the prez sent the boys in to get bin laden while other people told him not too?????did these people feel this way when he gave out vouchers to get housing through hud for homeless vets. I have 5 vets in my apts. they did not have vouchers until Obama became president ... and Obama hired thousands more people to handle their paperwork with the v.a. it is funny the way people leave s--t out.

Republican Reps should do the taping since they closed the monuments. And they bragged about it for months. And then bragged about it again this week. And then said Democrats did it. The schizoid Repubs are destroying the Nation

Umm...Harry Ried and the Democrats are the ones that closed the government....havent you been paying attention?

It's sad when people can not figure out for themselves that a memorial that doesn't require security when the government is funded also doesn't require security when government is not funded.

Hey! No fair introducing common sense into a debate like this!!

Maybe we should build a memorial to common sense.

Uh....the barricades went up on the 1st of Oct, Tuesday.

This event, WWII vets going past the barricades, happened yesterday, Tues.

FFS.....now you need a calender to understand when the shutdown began.

Honestly, what are you smoking?

I will ask again: On Monday there were no barricades. Why did they need barricades TUESDAY and today if they didn't need them Monday?

No amount of deflection will take away from the disgraceful use of our Veterans by your Republicans.
When Speaker Cruz likens his dirty deed in the Senate to the Bataan death march, all of America has a dry-heave.

I was actually responding to gimme's deflection so you got it at least in the ballpark. Congrats?

One thing is for sure there are a bunch of keyboard comando's up in this thread!!!

And now the RNC wants to keep National Parks in DC open for political reasons. It must be embarrassing to be a Republican in all sincerity.

Huh? Why should they be embarassed?

we went with the money to be spent that the repubs wanted not what we wanted so we did give...the repubs gave nothing .... quit blaming this shutdown on the dems.. you no good and well it was the tea party....please is the prez suppose to do everything the house of reps wants?... is this some moral/ law thing a prez is suppose to do? then why have a prez?

It has been discussed more than enough times, if you cannot fathom that non-essential funding was cut, that maintenance is non-essential, that barricades were erected because the sites were not going to be staffed.......then I don't know what to tell you.

Serious question

Do you really believe this?

I am not sure how many times you have to be told this but I will try one more time: THE MONUMENT HAS NEVER HAD STAFF. In fact, until Tuesday it was open to the public 24/7/365.25.

It's also privately funded

who is the 21st century schizoid man

The House passed a continuing budget resolution that would fully fund the government at current levels. The Harry Reid the leader of the Senate refuses to vote on it.

The House also passed 3 budget resolutions (Tuesday & Wednesday) to fund programs that were shut down that are needed (cancer treatment etc...) but again, Harry Reid the leader of the Senate refuses to vote on it.

With Harry Reid & the Democrats refusing anything less than getting everything they want, its their problem.

I had to laugh at Reids comments yesterday....pass the budget giving us everything we want then we will sit down and negotiate..HUH?

Do you purchase a car then sit down and negotiate price?
Do you purchase a home then negotiate on its price?

The shutdown is the Democrats baby. Its all on their hands.

Those monuments - WWII Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial etc...they never had staff to begin with...they are monuments...hunks of stone out there to view as you walk by every day, rain or shine, holidays & weekends, at 2 AM too. They never close they dont have staff.

But now the Obama government has barricaded them off from the public....why? To make the shut down as painful as they can make it to the American people, just as the sequester was supposed to be but wasnt.

There's no such thing.

Yes there is such a thing as typical Liberal, just as there is the typical conservative. You can always expect the most stupid of things being said by either group.

I do think that's the intention--to make the shut-down as personally painful as possible. Barricading a monument is not the way to play. Neither is this:

Shutdown to Idle US-Based Military Commissaries - ABC News

Under political pressure the White House has chosen to reopen the WWII memorial. Obama struggling with how to mesh this with his earlier dumb "public safety" argument. He really shouldn't bother though because the only people who will believe him will believe anything he says anyway.

Not sure how much political pressure is being applied - but just think: How would Obama and this shut down be turned on it's head if Federal employees guarding an open air un-manned monument to WWII started arresting 75+ year old WWII veterans in wheelchairs for trespassing? That would go over well.
