None of those were them saying they wanted to shut down the government. Keep lying if you want to.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

A large majority of Americans oppose Obamacare. Are the Libbos going to listen?

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

That "rammed it down our throats" line never ceases to amuse. It was "rammed down our throats" by compromising the original plan to more align with right wing ideas, including basically replacing it with Romney's program in Massachusetts, and then passed by the democratically elected majority in both chambers of congress, then signed by the democratically elected president, and then upheld by the constitutionally empowered supreme court when challenged through the lawful channels available to detractors. When polled, the majority of Americans support the provisions of the law. At this point, "rammed down our throats" means whatever you don't like.

If you mean utilizing doublespeak by calling the penalty a tax so it falls under 50-vote budget rules, but insist it isn't a tax as to not piss people off, then yes, completely democratic process.

And the "right wing" idea of a mandate is minimal catastrophic insurance, which incidentally is not "good enough" to qualify for the ACA mandate, and most would still have to pay their fine/tax.

No, you are saying that their goal was to shut down the government, it's not. They want a budget, the Democrats refuse that, they are shutting down the government because they can't govern.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

I would love to do away with the Republican idea of the individual mandate and replace it with a public option or single payer...but that is something to work on down the road. It isn't something to hold the American public hostage over and try to force negotiations at gunpoint.

Why not work on it now, before it has time to really f**k the country up?

I think that's been answered.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

Americans deluged with Republican lies support ACA more than ObamaCare. Go figure.

No they want to shut down the government that has been their plan. I hope you are not speaking of a conferance comitte which is what Republicans are pushing now? Really because it has nothing to do with raising the debt ceiling for money already approved. This shut down was a direct cause of the Teaailban wanting ACA repealed. Now they had their bluff called and they are scambling. Democrats have never refused that. Actually in April they passed a budget commitee that Republicans refused to do. So now they want that is very laughable. There needs to be a clean CR which is what America, Democrats, and the president wants. Period end of file no more hostage taking of the American credit.

Republicans wanted a shut down thinking it would help and now it has blown up in their faces Americans know what terrorism is and it aint the Muslims this time.

Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

Dear beloved, we gather here today to mourn (or celebrate) the death of the Tea Party Movement. Begun as a direct response to Obama's election, these savages have ensured that they don't get their way and nobody else does either. Also, let us take a moment to remember that they have, in their selfish way, irreparably harmed the Republican party. It will take Republicans years to recover from this. However, I am sure that after they lose the house in 2016, they'll return to their senses. Let us pray that St. Palin and St. Bachman will chime in this discussion and make it all worse for an already moribund Republican party.

Hilarious. We've been hearing for over 2 years "The Tea Party is done! They won't recover from this or that!" and yet, here they stand, as powerful as ever. Here they stand, continually being reelected, continually producing more and more candidates to challenge stale RINO's in various districts, and still fulfilling their campaign promises. What people don't want to realize is that the Tea Party isn't the GOP and it isn't the Democratic Party. It's based more upon ideology and values than politics. There is a segment of this country that will always believe in what the Tea Party stands for. I will agree that the Tea Party as it is today has strayed from it's original values. I can't deny that. However, the base of fiscal conservatism and small gov't is what made the Tea Party catch on. Seeing as how our gov't is not fiscally conservative nor is it small, they will continue to thrive.

Then why are they funded by the Republicans? Why do they caucus with Republicans? If they a party of their own why do they primary as Republicans? That does not sound like a independant party to me or anyone else. Fiscal conservatism and small government then why on earth do so many of the love Bush and Reagan? I wouldnt call the teaailban a thriving party. The idiots they have run in the last election lost pretty big.

Because they are what the Republicans should be, simple as that. They are what many people WANT Republicans to be but can't find. I wouldn't say all of them love Bush and Reagan either. Just because GOP POTUS candidates say they support the TP, doesn't mean they are in the TP. The Tea Party is doing just fine. It's obvious because they have an entire portion of the Congress voting their way.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

That is the epitome of "Rammed down throats."

Or it's the epitome of Republicans continuing to play partisan nonsense even after they'd gotten a lot of concessions. I see no reason to think that they would have voted for any form of healthcare reform so long as it was championed by Obama. That was still when they were continually saying that their only goal was to ensure Obama's defeat in 2012. Sounds to me like they weren't even really voting on the merits of the bill, just on whether or not they could use the vote to hurt the president. Maybe Republicans need to stop ramming partisan bull**** down the throats of the rest of us.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

Fail. Even the people of Mass. kicked out the party responsible for promoting it to try and stop it and the harry played games using parlimentary gimmicks to get it passed without a single Republican vote. Now a majority of the house, fully elected majority, is ignored by this dictator / regime. This loser human in charge of the oval office will negotiate with sharia followers that stone to death homosexuals but not those elected to the PEOPLE's house of the very government he's sworn to uphold. Anyone that can defend that loser human for those antics is truly unAmerican.

No, a unanimous vote is proof...regardless of the side. Did the Democrats unanimously vote against the invasion of Iraq?

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

well, one thing i have come to realize is ... Democrats in Congress are utterly powerless.

I mean it... they serve no purpose whatsoever... they have no responsibility, no accountability.. no purpose.
the GOP is so powerful that they rule the entire government, the set every narrative, the set our national course .

why are Dems even in office?

oh that's right, they exist to keep informing us just how powerful the GOP is... day in, day out.

"the GOP shutdown"...the latest lefty narrative... it amuses me.

the solutioun is in the Peoples house, but not the solution you are thinking about.

there may be a way to end this government shutdown, and get a clean spending bill from the house which can pass the senate and ultimately be signed by president obama. all the democrats have to do is get enough signatures to invoke a discharge petition and force a vote on a clean continuing resolution to fund the government, something the republican leadership in the house has been refusing to allow.

the beauty of a discharge petition is that it requires the signatures of a absolute majority of house members, and the magic number required is 218. there are currently 200 democrats in the house, so all it would take to pass a discharge petition is 18 republicans is to sign up for the petition. 13 republican house members have been calling for passing a clean continuing resolution bill. so all it would take is 5 more republicans to pass a discharge petition, force a vote on a clean continuing resolution bill, pass it in the house, pass it in the senate, and get it signed by President obama, and government shutdown crisis is over.

Bible thumping, bigots, racist, that have called the President every name in the book other than an American! WE shall see how long those votes last! Because more than a few moderates are sick of them. Oh and Cruz isnt smart enoug to understand a childs book and he lies.

The democrats are not powerless in the house of congress. they have the ability to gather signatures for a discharge petition and force a vote on a clean continuing resolution bill.

You're making yourself feel way too important by calling the Tea Party "alive" and "stronger than ever". That's simply not true. Where is Michelle Bachmann now? Not seeking re-election. Where is Sarah Palin? Getting shows cancelled on TLC. Where is Beck? Who knows - probably blaming Jews fo something. Where are John Boehner's approval ratings? So low underground most people in his state don't even like him. Where is Marco Rubio today? Same place as Milly Vanilly. Nobody knows.

With that said:

Where are the demonstrations with 50,000 people these days?
Where are the Midwest seats in the Tea Party? Where are the Washington seats? Where are the North East seats?

The Tea Party can basically be summarized as the "Texas Party". They've got 2-3 other states behind them but in reality, they haven't expanded. If anything, they've basically taken over Republican seats by using Republican money and Republican representatives. Your delusions of a growing movement are just that. Delusions. They're stagnant and dying for the most part.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

The problem is that it isn't a strategy and it is actually the Democrats that shutdown the Government.

The American people seem to disagree, for the most part.

Re: Poll: Americans reject GOP shutdown strategy

Why not work on it now, before it has time to really f**k the country up?

Because the goal of the teabaggers is not to honestly work towards making the ACA better. Their goal is to destroy it. It is never prudent to "negotiate" with extortionists.
