Ted Cruz launches faux filibuster as Senate readies spending bill vote

Does Ted Cruz realize that most of the funding for the affordable care act has already been appropriated and the bill currently being debated in the senate does nothing to remove that funding?

The only way to truely stop the implementation of the affordable care act is a bill that outright repeals it, and that has as much chance of passing as a icicle's chance in a furnace.

Of course he knows that, but he also knows that promising to overturn Obamacare and then hooting and leaping about it will get him votes from constituency that doesn't know it.

You might want to check my lean. I'm not a Republican, other than they are currently allies against the greater evil represented by the Left.

Low information voters? Would that be like Pelosi and other Liberal that voted for a law they hadn't even read? Or would that be voters that limit themselves to extremely biased reports that nit-pick one element of what Perry and others have done and try to call one stat they want to be a negative in amongst tons of data showing jut the opposite. Or perhaps those who are unable comprehend or ignore the abundance of evidence showing the longterm affects of Liberal/socialist economic policies?

When you call voters ignorant, keep in mind that that is the most accurate description of what Liberal is.

Yeah right you support a guy that got on the floor and read Green Eggs and Ham and he didnt even understand the moral of the story. Then you call me a low info voter ?? I gotta laugh at the down right stupid the right shows.

I agree with you but would have said Cruz is a perfect example of the TEA PARTY idiots who have caused such a ruinous state of affairs in BOTH houses of Congress.

A cobbled together astro-turf success story of an ethnic CON that would be the CON Messiah and lead the CONs to the Promised Land. The Pied Piper of Hispanics who will turn the tide that has surged against the 'angry white man' party. That slick, good looking fella who will cause those hormone enslaved women to forget the rhetoric of the TPs and just vote for him 'coz he is so sexy'...

Or some such crap onna cracker... :peace

Actually, you're describing Marco Rubio, not Cruz. But Rubio has mostly abandoned his Tea Party roots in search of the Presidential nomination he'll never get. Fortunately, Jeb Bush has the seniority, the gravitas, the common sense, and the immediate hispanic family to put any of the hispanic imposters out to pasture. Jeb Bush will be the next President of the United States - bet on it.

One, I'm cracking up at people latching onto a bed time story he read for his kids to attack the man. Then again, with the vitriol being spewed about him on this board, it's not shocking. Two, it absolutely can be argued that the three years of this law slowly coming into effect, and the various affects the new regulation has had on a variety of things within the health care/insurance realm, has given some people a "first taste" of it.

The childrens book moral of Green Eggs and Ham is that in general one should try things, because you may just like it. However, be mindful this is also a children's book, aimed at imparting messages to children. Children, still in a very developing stage, are prone to do and act in wildly illogical and unpredictable ways as they are not fully developed in terms of mental reasoning, are bereft of a certain amount of life experience, and are prone to rely more on emotion. It is important to convince children to exit their box and try new things because they are at a point in their life where they need to expand and experience because they are growing, and because many children are prone to not do such a thing. It also helps that, in general, chlidren function under supervision of a parent/guardian who can help out with the fact that...DESPITE the moral of the story....there are some things one should perhaps not try just to see if they like it.

If you all have a good day, do you go home to your shower with a razor blade and slice your skin so that you can cry? Those known as cutter's do this, but I wager most people don't and haven't. The mindless mentality towards the moral of green eggs and ham that is trying to be grasped onto and contorted in an effort to just add to the list of ways to attack Cruz would suggest that we should all go home and try that after a bad day...becuase how will we know we won't like it unless we try it!

But that's an overly simplistic moral that is useful for children who are generally looked after by a parent, but doesn't really work in a broad sense with adults. We can know that perhaps due to other experiences that we don't exactly like cuts. We could have had other situations where we clearly saw that pain actually causes us to feel worse, not better, after a bad day. We could have interacted with Cutter's before and realized that such action seemingly just helped bury whatever the issue was rather than actually offering any kind of long term relief.

All sorts of ways we could look at surrounding data and information and make a reasoned decision that "no, we don't need to go home and cut our arm" despite the fact we "never tried it".

But when people are running forth to call him a "*****", "masturbator", "bastard", and ridiculde his success and life as being fraudulently constructed as a "hispanic pied piper" I really shouldn't be surprised that people abandon logic, sense, or reasonable debate in an effort to just bitch about him.

Cruz is a junior senator, he is no fool. Your post reminds me of the talking points from Karl Rove, the big mastermind in the Republican establishment through hook and crook bring us such stellar candidates like Romney and McCain (losers) forcing the base of the Republican party to hold their nose at the voting booth or just not bother to vote at all. And those so called "strong Republican voices in the Senate" who have been attacking Cruz, do so anonymously or use their staffers to do the dirty work. Where I come from we call that a wuss.

But this morning there is something in the news that was quite a surprise to me. Looks like the head of the Republican National Committee is behind Cruz's efforts.

hmmmm, maybe there are more like me that told them to buzz off and don't call me back asking for money because I am no longer going to send money to a party that props up spineless jelly fish as candidates.

Priebus backs Cruz in filibuster fight against McConnell | The Daily Caller

Yes, Cruz is a junior senator, and indeed he is a fool - one only needs to listen to him speak or being interviewed to come to that conclusion. As I said in the comment you responded to, the message may be right but the messenger is equally and critically important. Just as Obama is now a disasterous messenger when it comes to rallying American public opinion, Cruz is also a terrible front man for the anti-Obamacare message.

If you fail to see the importance of who delivers your message, you will be destined to repeat the many mistakes of the past several years.

I feel bad that this idiot is from my state how he got elected is beyond me. I appologies for the state of Texas maybe they should be kicked out of America. First Gov Perry running for President and now this teabag loooney!

It really must drive you crazy living in a Conservative state that has a booming economy, creating most of the jobs in this country, has a growing labor force, declining unemployment and one run by Conservative leadership. Cruz is only being called an embarrassment by liberals who will do anything they can to destroy him and his message which is that almost 70% of Americans want Obamacare defunded. The real embarrassment is Obama and liberalism. We are going to see next year what an embarrassment Cruz is as well as those T.E.A. Party activists as our incompetent President officially becomes a lame duck.

He's trying to copy those in his past that have done a similar thing and gotten media attention. There was no point in a filibuster, because they could have stopped it at any time. Congrats on looking dumber than you did before though!

Rubio messed himself up with getting involved with the Republican establishment on immigration. But he didn't abandon Cruz last night.

Jeb Bush has gravitas? LOL Jeb Bush and all the other Republican elites are part of the problem not the solution. Wow just what we need some more compassionate conservatism.

Yes then why are we almost last in every catagory. We have been down this road before and you have been proven wrong time and time again. We are a service economy period. Most minimum wage jobs created. Lol try again

Yeah, ignore the intelligent, thoughtful leaders of the party and line up behind the big mouth idiots - that's a plan for success!! It sure got the Republicans control of the Senate the past two times, didn't it??

Yeah. The last Bush worked out so well.

So it's 8:57 the next day....16 hours after you declaration of him as a *****...and he's still up there.

What am I missing exactly? Or were you the one missing something in your lustful rush to attack a republican?

That was addressed in about the 5th post. Cruz left the podium after 14 minutes, and came back. He also released the floor to Marco Rubio, who spoke for a while. Under the Senate rules in place for THIS debate, Cruz can take breaks.

I am surprised you missed that.

No he bucked heads with the Republican establishment not willing to conform to their program of rolling over and playing dead or compromising to the point you no longer stand for anything. Moderates know all about that one. They are pros at it.

Speaking of health insurance and of Texas' 25.7% uninsured rate This is What the TMA has to say about it:

Medical Impact of Lacking Health Insurance

The uninsured are up to four times less likely to have a regular source of health care and are more likely to die from health-related problems. They are much less likely to receive needed medical care, even for symptoms that can have serious health consequences if not treated. About one in four Texans lives at or below the poverty level; for children, it's nearly one in three. Extending health coverage to the uninsured could improve their overall health by 7 to 8 percent. Lack of insurance increases their dependence on Medicaid.

Financial Impact of Texas' Uninsured Crisis

Lacking a medical home, uninsured people tend to look for health care in the emergency room, the most expensive setting they could possibly choose. Nationally, patients made over 123 million emergency room visits in 2008. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that about 8 percent (9.9 million) of ER visits are for non-urgent issues that could be treated in a doctor's office or clinic.

Using Medicaid payment rates and data on Medicaid patients' unnecessary emergency room visits, the Legislative Budget Board estimates that a condition that could be treated in a doctor's office for $56.21 (including lab and x-ray) costs $193.92 in the emergency room. National studies back up that data, finding, for example, that the charge for treating an ear infection in the emergency room is $170 versus $55 in a family physician's office.

Taxpayers, Texans with insurance, and employers who offer health benefits also pay extra for caring for the uninsured. Families USA estimated the total cost for Texas in 2005 to be more than $9.2 billion. Of that:

The patients and their families pay about half ($4.6 billion);
Government health programs pay one-sixth ($1.6 billion); and
Those with private health insurance subsidize the remaining third ($3 billion).
Texas hospitals spent about $208 million treating uninsured trauma patients in 2003. To cover these costs, hospitals charge insured patients higher prices, which in turn drives up insurance premiums. In what Families USA calls a "vicious cycle," those increased costs are added to already-rising health insurance premiums, leading more employers to drop coverage, and leaving even more people without insurance. That further adds to premiums for the insured and further boosts the roles of the uninsured.

In 2005, typical premiums for family health insurance coverage provided by private employers in the U.S. include an extra $922 in premiums due to the cost of care for the uninsured. In Texas, because of the very large percentage of uninsured, that figure is $1,551. By 2010, the national average will catch up to Texas' current figure; by then, the annual cost per Texas family will soar to $2,786.

Those so called big mouth idiots as you call them, changed the makeup of the House. If it wasn't for those "big mouth idiots" there would have been no stops in place to keep the Democrats and Obama from making all those "changes" they long for. Why it was because of a Democrat Congress and Obama in two short years that gave us Obamacare. In the Senate, Republicans won four seats held by retiring Democrats and Republicans defeated two incumbent Democrats during the last mid-term election thanks to the efforts by the Tea Party. This was the largest number of Republican gains since the 1994 elections and also the first time since that election that Republicans successfully defended all of their own seats. So you obviously don't know what you are talking about.

Last in what category? Keep buying the liberal lies and ignore the facts. You really shouldn't be talking about issues you don't understand. No matter how many times you claim it the State of TX has the highest number of FEDERAL minimum wage jobs not actual minimum wage jobs but that fact escapes you. California has three times as many people making California minimum wage and you try living on $8 an hour there. Better tell that to the Fortune 500 businesses moving to TX that we are simply a service economy unless of course you mean the medical profession being service.

By the way you have yet to prove me wrong on any issue.

I have traveled all over the country in my business career, moved to TX in 1992 and unlike you, I appreciate what I have here. This was the best move of my life.

Seems like Choice only matters when it comes to a liberals intent to murder their baby not when it comes to choosing insurance. I offered insurance to all my employees and less than half signed up. that was their choice, just like it is going to be their choice not to purchase Obamacare and pay the fine, then what?

The liberal rhetoric being concerned about the lack of insured is misguided at best and naïve at worst. Since insurance costs are bourn by the citizens of the state not the federal taxpayers it is a state issue not a Federal issue unless of course all you want to do is give the federal bureaucrats more money to waste.

Seems like Choice only matters when it comes to a liberals intent to murder their baby not when it comes to choosing insurance. .

Again, I wish people like you would move since you are so unhappy in this state. I OFFERED MY EMPLOYEES health insurance and less than half chose to participate because most are invincible people over the age of 21. You seem to miss the point that insurance was offered and refused, just like you refuse to accept the reality that those younger people are going to pay the fines and not buy Obamacare, then when?

By the way, my customers paid for it and yet people still refused to accept it

Don't you ever get tired or being lied to by liberal politicians? What possible benefit could people get from Obamacare having to wait in the ER's for service because their doctors don't accept obamacare insurance? Thought we could keep our doctor and insurance plan if we wanted to. Obama lies don't resonate, wonder why? What is it about liberalism that creates this kind of loyalty?
