Lois Lerner, IRS official at heart of tea party scandal, retires

Section 501c of the US tax code defines the types of tax exempt organizations and how they apply. Please feel free to read it on irs.gov at your convenience. Oh, and yes religious organizations fall under their own category and rules which is why they may wish to determine if an organization would be acting as a religious one instead of a community organization. So the question does have a place in classification for tax free purposes and defining what forms of revenue remain tax free as it differs among those groups.

What does moveon.org fall under?

you are the one claiming they acted out of line, yet there is no proof of them doing so.

Lois Learner is the one who claimed "they" acted out of line when shed plead the fifth. Perhaps there is an ambiguous circumstance that would clear her (unlikely) but if true there is no such circumstance to clear everyone involved or she would not have plead the fifth except to avoid admitting her guilt.

Oh, so you have made the jump from pleading the fifth to being guilty. That only works for the public, so that little bit of logic is not going to help any conviction. Of course, some of us know it is better to STFU even when innocent than to help the prosecution or police create a case against you. Never speak to the police or an investigator without a lawyer present. never incriminate yourself, especially when the republicans are playing make believe.

you are the one claiming they acted out of line, yet there is no proof of them doing so. Tax exempt status has special standing which the IRS is tasked with determining. Therefor it is their job to determine if you fit the requirements. if you want to proceed without reading the tax code then please continue, but do not blame the rest of us when you make a terrible argument like it is wrong for the IRS to determine if you are operating properly within the codes of a tax free organization.

No proof of them doing so? :lamo

The religion if the members is off limits, however.

Actually, it is off limits to deny them based on religion. It is not off limits to put them into the religious section if they are religious. As a matter of fact in order to apply to be a religion you actually have to tell them you are a religion. How is the IRS supposed to know if you are religiously exempt from taxes if you do not tell them? Think about your claims. It is not wrong to ask if they are religious.

yes, it was investigated and it was found out that the IRS scrutinizes lots of different groups. The tea party made up outrage and you bought it.

The IRS admitted that Tea Party groups were wrongfully targeted. No investigation is going to remove that admission of guilt.

That's right...it's illegal to deny them an application because of their personal religion. Glad you can finally smell the coffee...welcome to the real world.

A fully loaded garbage truck, I hope.

What does moveon.org fall under?

"Our MoveOn family is made up of a couple of different pieces. MoveOn.org Civic Action, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, focuses on education and advocacy, providing civic engagement tools to the public and building the progressive movement by encouraging and supporting the development of more grassroots leaders. MoveOn.org Political Action, a federal PAC, is focused on demonstrating MoveOn members’ power at the ballot box and electing candidates who reflect MoveOn members’ values."

What is MoveOn

Now let's take a look at an 'about page' from a similar, yet harassed organization during the last election cycle.

"Tea Party Patriots is made up of, and funded by, millions of regular Americans just like you, who believe there is a better way forward for America. We are a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization that does not support any political party nor do we endorse candidates. If you support fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free market economic policies, we encourage you to sign up for Tea Party Patriots today."

I don't see a whole lot of difference in their stated missions...So why is MoveOn allowable, yet TPP subject to undue scrutiny? Discrimination? I think that is clear, and to have some in here STILL to this day not willing to admit that is truly disheartening.

to have a scandal one needs evidence of wrongdoing.
