The US Navy confirms there is an "active" gunman on the grounds of the US Navy Yard in Washington DC.

CNN has reported that 3 shots fired at the Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters, in southeast Washington, D.C.

At least one person was injured Monday morning when a person opened fire inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard, United States Navy and MPD officials say.

Authorities continue to search for an active shooter is being sought on the grounds of the Washington Navy Yard, authorities say.

The shooting happened at about 8:20 a.m. at the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command on Isaac Hull Avenue on the grounds of the historic Navy Yard.
Officials say 3,000 people work in the building, where authorities are still looking for the shooter.

wow shocking! After fort hood you would of thought armed guards would of been posted at every military bases/outpost etc

Armed guards are present yet they simply look for ID, they do not pat down folks or search vehicles. It is likely that the shooter, as was the case at Fort Hood, was authorized to enter the facility.

Thats as goofy a comment as would be one that used the incident to blame a gun for killing people. Lets let this thing play out first, huh?

NBC Washington now reporting 10 victims, including one Yard security and one DC Metro cop.

Medevac chopper lifted one victim from the roof of a building in the Navy Yard

Raise your hand if when you heard the news the first thing you thought was Muslim. Not saying it is, but that was my first thought.

Report of at least four dead, 12 shot and more than one shooter. Report that one shooter has been "neutralized"

A fine example of the success the right wing media has had in forming prejudices in American minds. It may well be Islamic radicals but the mere fact that it was your first thought is just one more instance of irrational hatred.

Anyone remember when their first thought upon hearing of such an instance would have concerned a worker "going postal"?

If I were the shooter, and especially if I were injured, as a last-ditch attempt to escape, I would make my way to a rooftop and wave for helicopter evacuation.

I would have thought going postal if the shooting was at a post office. It's in a Navy yard. I hope Gibbs wasn't shot.

Don't blame the right wing media or any media. Blame the shooter on an Army base who yelled about Allah as he shot soldiers. Are you saying that they didn't report that shooting on the Daily Worker? If they didn't, you should drop your subscription.

I'm not sure what the issue is with thinking it was an islamic radical. They are a movement that we are at war with on a number of fronts and they tend to employ such tactics.
