Active gunmen in US navy Yard [W:69, 700]

I'll fight to the death for my freedom to get shot in the street along with a dozen citizens with a cheap firearm with an extended clip.

It's very important that we preserve that freedom.

Yes, I too am observing this strange phenomena in USA. Everyone is so darn free are they not?

I don't think the gun is the problem here as this attacker had obviously planned this out well and i'm sure if he was unable to get a gun in he would of explored other ways to inflict damage.

Like what? Knuckleguards and knives?

You have a better chance winning the Lottery.

Nothing strange about it....This has less to do about guns, and more to do with how we deal with mental illness in this country.

Yeah, most of these mass shooters usually were identified as individuals dealing with some type of psychological crisis and have recent documented incidences with them acting out. But these events are extremely rare already. It would just be nice to have a more solid mechanism to prevent these individuals from buying guns, or leaving them in a situation to carry out such an attack

Not sure how this has to do with how we deal with mental illness. Unless there were signs that were ignored, what should have been handled differently in regards to mental illness?

Not sure about this individual in particular but the Lansa (sp) character and a few others recent example were seemingly showing signs of being mentally troubled before their attacks

Fighting to the death in order to be killed :lamo

That is a conflicting statement. Not to mention a waste of effort.

Yes but you guys fight for the freedom to hold guns that ultimately kill you. You fight to the death in order to be killed :) . See statement above.

homemade explosives...

Between shooting with at the navy area and creating homemade explosives I rather chooooose... None! Increase control of gun access by using latest fMRI technology. As for the bombs it should be deadly tricky to make them.

What are you even talking about? I only asked because I was interested in reading about it.

Well, removing legal channels to purchase a gun does tend to limit a person's ability to purchase a gun, and also limits the ability to transport and carry such items. Certainly nothing full proof, but it's an added layer of control and protection

ONLY people who follow laws. Criminals and murderers do NOT follow the law.

But they nearly always 'choose' guns.

Paul

The point is, even if you managed to eradicate guns, the nut jobs will find a way. This attack happened in one of the most secure gun free zones in the world.

Not particularly well. Then again, that's why I prefer to arm myself because security isn't necessarily there when you need them to be.
Well said. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

No, removing someone's ability to acquire a gun legally would clearly limit their ability to buy guns.

That must be why there is so little gun violence in Mexico, right?

Wuzzup with all those mass shootings. American exceptionalism I guess.

The problem is less about guns, and more about nutcase control. Loughner, Lanza, Holmes, Alexis, et al had no business walking about in public.

Let us not go to waste any opportunity to ban AR15s...even if they werent used...

"A U.S. law enforcement official said Monday that gunman Aaron Alexis unleashed a barrage of bullets using an AR-15, a rifle and a semi-automatic handgun. Authorities believed the AR-15 was used for most of the shooting, the official said. The news prompted Sen. Dianne Feinstein, one of the strongest proponents of a ban on assault weapons like the AR-15, to issue a statement the same day asking, "When will enough be enough?"
However, federal law enforcement sources told CNN Tuesday that authorities have recovered three weapons from the scene of the mass shooting, including one -- a shotgun -- that investigators believe Alexis brought in to the compound. The other two weapons, which sources say were handguns, may have been taken from guards at the Navy complex."

"you guys"? who is "you guys"? Americans? Constitutionalists? Gun owners? I fail to see how you come to the conclusion that a law abiding gun owner is at fault here.

My girlfirend just researched what it takes to get a gun in Mexico.

You have to have a good reason to want a gun.

Living in a dangerous area and getting shot at was denied as a reason to want a gun.

It is crazy here.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

I see the conversation has morphed from "this guy must have been a Muslim terrorist, but the MSM will never admit it" to "we need more/fewer guns".

I'd be willing to bet, based on the few facts that we have, that the shooter was a mental case who should never have had any guns, or been allowed to walk free, that he is not a Muslim, and that neither terrorism nor gun control has a thing to do with this incident.

Any takers?

I am just waiting for the answer as to how somebody with felonies on their criminal record could get security clearance to enter this facitilty.

I think you're confused, mate. What I wrote has nothing to do with gun violence in mexico. What it does is highlight the fact that removing someone's ability to legally buy a gun prevents them buying a gun via legal channels. Thus limiting their ability to buy guns.

For some reason you're interpreting that as "can't buy guns"
