We've come a long way from "going postal" days. Today, everyone's first thought, most especially on a military base, is that it's some whacko shooter making a whacko "statement" to the world.

I can't imagine why anyone would criticize this particular jump to conclusion. We jump to what we think are logical conclusions all the time when a story is breaking.

I have just as much disdain for hate mongering media as you do, but it was the first thing which popped into my mind as well. This is a place with ties to the government, and the shooting is coming on the heels of a message from the Al-Qaeda promoting "lone wolf" attacks on US soil.

It's not an unreasonable conclusion to jump to.

My thoughts, ranged from disgruntal employee(s), to lone wolf extremists. Time will tell who the shooter(s) are.

or for the conspiracy minded folks, maybe its a false flag operation by the govt to continue to control the public opinion on the war with terrorists for big oil and take our gun rights away.:mrgreen::lamo

True, but the are in the area of Capital Police, Park Police, Metro PD and Navy PD. Navy Police have a station right on the Yard.
It does look like he or them took a building that is probably the least defended.

Lets just clarify right now that guns or the availability of guns, or the fetishization of guns, or anything having to do with guns clearly has no role in this shooting. With a gun. But heck, it could have been a hammer. But guns have nothing do do with this. For sure.

From what is being said, there are more than two shooters, one of the perpetrators has been killed, therefore it doesn't sound like a disgruntled employee. Terrorist related possibly.

The Washington Navy Yard was declared a "gun free zone" a few years ago.

In fact after Obama ordered the bolts of the Marines rifles to be removed, civilian police now provide LE on the yard.
