(Reuters) - The head of the opposition Syrian Supreme Military Council said on Saturday a U.S.-Russian agreement to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons was a blow to the two-and-a-half-year uprising to remove President Bashar al-Assad from power.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the agreement on removing Syria's chemical weapons on Saturday after nearly three days of talks in Geneva.

Of course the peace deal hurts the Rebel's war effort. If Syria gets rid of chemical weapons then how are the rebels supposed to launch weapons against the civilians?

Interesting how your criticism of the bloodshed in Syria is directed ONLY at the rebels.

Which is pretty much the whole goal of Putin's "peace efforts" in Syria. He's been arming Assad for years and wants to keep him in power.

I want him in power also. I don't believe what USA mainstream media has stated about Assad. He gets the same treatment Hugo Chavez got. All Bad, yet Hugo was the best thing that ever happened to Venezuelans, but not for the New World Order. I think Assad is the same deal.

It's not about what just the US media says about Assad. Every human rights organization has called out Syria for their atrocious human rights record.

I see, so in other words if a foreign leader is hostile enough towards the US you automatically support him. Well that seems reasonable.

Well a huge percentage of the Rebels are with Al-Qaeda. Two wrongs don't make a right and I'd rather not be involved at all. But if I had a choice between the Rebels who are with Al-Qaeda, or Assad who protects minority rights then I'm going to side with Assad. Furthermore Assad is the legitimate government body.

There are different percentages being stated however I don't understand why Assad should instantly get a free pass from any criticism for his own brutality because of that.

I agree, there is absolutely nothing to be gained in Syria.

Furthermore Assad is the legitimate government body.
There apparently are many Syrians who disagree with you on that. But oh well.

I said no such thing. What I did say is, if the USA media is partisanly/belligerently/illogically/non-objectively against a leader of a foreign Nation, then that leader must be a detriment to the money stream of that Big Corporate sponsored USA Media.

And I'll repeat again. It's not about what just the US media says about Assad. Every human rights organization has called out Syria for their atrocious human rights record.

Alright alright, you're a conspiracy fanatic. Okay then.

On the contrary. I recognize the Capitalist model regarding profit/loss and apparently you do not.

To automatically ignore something from the mainstream media is pretty much just as bad as automatically believing everything you hear from the mainstream media.

I'm not really sure what exact point you wanted to make.

Heya Monte that's not all they did either.....plus the Rebels/ Terrorists wouldn't listen to us.. I think the FSA and SNC are a bit upset that now most know they are not the Ruling Government of Syria and that Assad is. That the UN and all are recognizing Assad and not the So called Rebels/ Terrorists of the FSA and SNC.

Syrian opposition elects moderate Islamist as prime minister

The opposition Syrian National Coalition elected a moderate Islamist as provisional prime minister on Saturday, hoping to avoid being sidelined as world powers renew diplomatic efforts to end the civil war.

Coalition sources said the decision to proceed with naming a provisional government went ahead despite opposition from the United States, which hopes to convene, along with Russia, a peace conference in Geneva that could come up with a transitional administration.

That follows a deal between Russia and the United States over President Bashar al-Assad's chemical weapons arsenal that could lead to efforts towards a wider settlement of the two-and-a-half year conflict.

Tumeh said his priority would be restoring order to areas of Syria no longer controlled by Assad.

Tumeh addressed coalition members as "comrades on the path to freedom," and indicated that the SNC would not compromise on a deal that could keep Assad in power.

In a closed door briefing, Tumeh told the coalition that the provisional government would operate from northern Syria, members present told Reuters.

It will be a task fraught with risk, with al Qaeda-linked militants, with a significant presence in the north, ideologically opposed to moderates such as Tumeh, who has preached tolerance and democratic change during a long political career.

Tumeh was imprisoned from 2007 to 2010 along with 11 opposition members who had demanded that Assad embark on democratic change in a country ruled by his family since 1970.....snip~

I don't ignore anything. I double check it. If you can spot an untruth, the real truth is often the opposite because that is how untruths function.

From what I understand US arms to the opposition have yet to arrive. When they do that can improve the rebels' war efforts. That and not being gassed has to count for something.

The U.S. has been training the Rebels, and by extentions Al-Qaeda, for nearly 2 years.

The odds are better than 50/50 that it was the rebels that used the gas. You have framed a presumption as a fact. Truth/untruth.

Some of the rebels are linked to al-Qaeda. Nothing else really needs to be said.

Some people on this forum are likely in league with Al-Qaeda and are working the western propaganda.

your point? there is a slight difference between al-Qaeda gaining control of an online forum compared to an entire nation.

The Al-Qaeda supporters aren't just on this forum, they're on many others as well. They're trying to convince Americans to contact their politicians and support Al-Qaeda. There's always an enemy within but the people on this forum have been entirely unsubtle about their wish for Al-Qaeda to take over Syria.
