Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase [W:68]

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

The number of sexual assaults reported to the Navy has grown by about 50 percent in the past year, which Navy officials said Wednesday is a sign that a growing number of sailors feel more comfortable reporting an assault and believe something will be done about it when they do.

The Navy said it is on pace to end the 2013 fiscal year later this month with about 1,100 reports of sexual assault. That's up from the 726 sexual assaults reported in the previous fiscal year

This seriously questions your argument. I haven't seen this level of self pwnage since Bronson cited an article "proving" global warming is fake only to have the same article saying it's real.

Is this an issue of same level of abuse but more reporting or more abuse and the same proportion of reporting?

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

A female relative of mine came back early and pregnant every cruise she went on. They finally just stopped sending her to sea. she wasn't raped--just a slut ;)
She is not alone. In the Navy its zero tolerance...A female might not like a male and she accused him of sexual advances.....His career is finished.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Bull****. You just said you blame no one. (and then two sentences later blamed liberals) You've done everything possible to shift the blame away from the rapists as much as possible. It's sickening.

You know what? If our Navy men are animals who are incapable of controlling their violent nature like you seem to think they are, maybe we shouldn't let those despicable scumbags serve at all. What do you say? Surely this behavior doesn't live up to your standards for honorable Navy service. If they don't live up to the honor, kick em, right?

So all-female Navy it is!

The Liberals got us in the mess........

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Human Beings.

What does human beings ~"getting together" have to to with sexual assault?

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Navy Pride, I think you may have consumed some rancid spinach. Your logic only works if you apply it selectively...

A female in the Navy makes a false accusation and takes out a serviceman... ban all women.

A man in the Navy sexually assaults a female... ban all women.

The military in general has been cracking down on sexual assault over the last couple years because of the spotlight finding its way on the high statistics of cases not leading to punishment in the past. As a result, the military has beefed up its programs to educate about sexual assault, make reporting easier, and take cases to non-judicial punishment or courts-martial depending on how strong the case is/severity of the case.

To be clear, sexual assault does not mean "rape" which would be a separate specification under the same article 120 of the UCMJ. Sexual assaults could be lewd comments, an inappropriate touch, sexual threats, or could mean something more like what most people would think assault means like some kind of violent contact of a sexual nature...but not including rape.

The reason many of these cases in the past garnered less attention than they do now is because often sexual assault is difficult to prove (typically he said, she said), unless some physical evidence exists. That doesn't mean they weren't investigated, just didn't turn up enough evidence to proceed. Naturally, some females leaving the military have sought media attention pointing out that they had been sexually assaulted and the military didn't do anything about it (which really means the military investigated, but didn't bring charges due to lack of evidence...in most cases, but not all). Now the military is under the microscope.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

I told all you "feel Good" Liberals a long time ago that women serving on Navy combatants at sea would never work....Its really the tip of the iceberg.

Ah there's that famous Conservative "Personal Responsibility" line that I love so much.

It's not the fault of the rapists, that they rape.

It's the fault of:

A) Women who want to serve their country.

B) Anyone who supported that notion.

Ah freedom...

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

It has been covered up until now.....726 sexual assaults in the Navy alone last year is not chicken feed.
Would it make you feel any better if the people that committed those acts did them outside the Navy?

From the article you quoted:

a growing number of sailors feel more comfortable reporting an assault and believe something will be done about it when they do.

This is the reason, not the reason you stated. Your position is totally refuted.

/thread.

Not necessarily. It COULD be the reason, but it could also be expanding number of women in the navy at the same proportional reporting rate. I brought up much of the same points you did, but its unclear whether it's more sexual assault or simply more reporting of existing sexual assault. Given the recent push for more reporting though, I'm leaning that way.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Another disgusting thing the military seems to do nothing to curtail.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Probably because the military likes rape!

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

The problem is the average age sailor be it male or female is 19. The sexual juices are flowing.....Long times at sea men and women are going to get together and have sex. Its the nature of the animal.

So they can be trusted with a weapon and discipline, but they can't be trusted around *****. Got it, thanks. Says more about the Navy than liberals, just saying.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Probably because the military likes rape!

Like? No. Indifferent to? Yes. Probably just as bad though.

The Pentagon stats for 2012 showed 60% of victims were men. I don't think this has anything to do with women serving.

Why is the military indifferent to rape?

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Why is the military indifferent to rape?

They don't seem to make curtailing it a priority.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

They don't seem to make curtailing it a priority.

But what is the reasoning behind the inaction?

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

Give me a like if you agree this is weak limp wrist attempt to attack women in the military FAILURE.
Before one puts out such a thread they should understand their position and not publically have to flip flop like a goldfish out of its bowl.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

It seems to me it doesn't take priority.

Re: Official: Reports of Sex Assault in Navy Increase

I understand your observation. But why would the military choose to be indifferent regarding rape?

Prohibitively expensive maybe?
