Netherlands Close Eight Prisons Due To Lack Of Criminals

Dear Netherlands.

We would like to ship you 8 prisons worth of violent felons. After they serve their time we would like you to let them assimilate with your culture as it is obviously superior to ours.

Dear America,

We have plenty of room for your violent criminals since we don't imprison everyone who commits a petty crime. This will be good for you because you often release your murderers and rapists due to lack of room to incarcerate your drug users. We simply send our drug users for treatment and those who don't respond to treatment are allowed to quietly continue their habits as long as they don't bother other people.

So, when you give someone 30 years for murdering children, they won't get out in 7 years because they have accepted Jesus as their personal savior. They'll be here the whole 30 years and your citizens will be much safer.

In the meantime, we can use your dollars so unlike you, our streets don't have potholes and our infrastructure isn't crumbling.

Dare to dream...I'm in for the social experiment. My money is on the headlines "The Netherlands see's a spike in violent crime following pioneering prison transfer program"

Sure. Of course, there's that 20 years and millions of dollars in legal fees and the unfortunate fact that once you're dead you really don't suffer. Maybe you can use drones and dump that silly due process approach that you don't like.

We'll be sorry to lose the business but maybe we can convert our prison surplus to hotel rooms so your American refugees escaping your burdensome taxes can have an inexpensive place to sleep while they count their money.

No, i'm suggesting the Dutch may have a different approach-more like a path of restorative justice.

We are a country of only 16 million so it is impossible to have millions of them but we too have illegal immigrants from several countries and we too have issues with minority crime but not to the extent of that in the United States.

And no, we do not have such gang issues. Largely because we do not have problematic issues with areas as sometimes happens in the USA and we also do not have a big gun/weapons problem. With no access to guns and not that dramatic problems with poverty and crime ridden areas, we have been able to not have large armed crime gangs in the Netherlands.

Been fun reading about the neverlands but on the subject of drug related crimes filling our prisons I found this. Drug crimes are a big percentage.

"Drug Offenders in US Prisons 2011) Federal: On Dec. 31, 2011, there were 197,050 sentenced prisoners under federal jurisdiction. Of these, 94,600 were serving time for drug offenses, 14,900 for violent offenses, 10,700 for property offenses, and 69,000 for "public order" offenses (of which 22,100 were sentenced for immigration offenses, 29,800 for weapons offenses, and 17.100 for "other"). State: On Dec. 31, 2011, there were 1,341,804 sentenced prisoners under state jurisdiction. Of these, 225,242 were serving time for drug offenses, 710,875 for violent offenses, 245,351 for property offenses, 141,803 for "public order" offenses (which include weapons, drunk driving, court offenses, commercialized vice, morals and decency offenses, liquor law violations, and other public-order offenses), and 18,534 for "other/unspecified". - See more at: Prisons & Drug Offenders | Drug War Facts

Indeed, and the Mandatory Minimum Sentence, brought to us by the drug prohibition, are a HUGE factor in our problems.
