Syria 'welcomes' proposal to hand over control of chemical weapons [W:122]

If this happens? If Syria acquiesces? To think that The White House can't spin this into victory is naive.

Of course there will be those who say that this is some kind of masterwork of diplomacy attributed to Obama's amazing foreign policy planning. It isn't.

Putin sort of bailed Obama out of a mess while getting a HUGE boost to his political power in the ME and with the UN. Through this whole process Putin got what he wanted and Obama got nothing.

Why exactly is it important to win a dick waving contest with Russia?
What do you think international politics and policy is all about? What do you think Obama has been doing with Syria for the past two weeks? Dick waving....

The Cold War is long over. They don't have to be our enemies.
No one's claiming the Cold War isn't over and our President could turn around the relationship with Russia any time he wants to. Question is: When's he going to start working on that?

I'd say Obama got exactly what he wanted.

I think everyone knows what geopolitics is about:

Phase 1: Kill the brown people and Muslims, US domination.
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit

;)

If that's what you believe.... and yet you support it by living in such a country and paying your gov't tax dollars to carry it out. How do you sleep at night?

So let's see. Kerry chews on his foot and has to have said foot extracted from mouth after the fact. Putin seizes on Kerry's leather lunch and places an order from Kerry's menu. President Obama realizes the frying pan is getting almost impossible to reside in, so he gladly changes his fireside chat with the nation so he can find out how Putin wants his steak cooked. And the spin is Obama is getting respect for what he could do to such a degree it's resulting in Syria being stipped of it's chemical weapons stock? Now that is Olympic level finals match delusion...

So let's see. Cons cried and howled for weeks and now the chemical weapons are being dealt with without 'war mongering'. Obama isn't cooking a steak but calling out to Putin as he bails- "Dudrominov, I sure hope your chute opens!" Russia backs away from confrontation that just yesterday Cons was declaring as the start of WWIII. :doh

How quickly Cons forget all their blather and spin desperately anyway they can to try and make a peaceful resolution a 'fail'...

I see bait dangled and Putin leaping out of the water to bite. He damn sure didn't want a fight and found himself in a corner supporting a guy no one likes and with a carrier in operational range Putin's navy isn't in a position to do much.

Obama, unlike BushII saw a peaceful resolution and took it, where as BushII rebuffed any attempt to resolve the Iraq mess without an INVASION and a chance to show everyone just how big and bad he was...

...and that peaceful resolution comes with the cost of taking a backseat to Russia, who is now making demands of the US. All of a sudden, this is now all our fault.

Say it with me now: We're number 2!

I'd say Obama got exactly what he wanted.

Perhaps. I'm not exactly sure what the guy wants.

Right now Russia's credibility on ME diplomacy is at a peak. They are allied with Syria and Iran. Iran wants nukes and now they will have them unopposed. Syria will keep its chem weapons (these international coalitions overseeing such things NEVER work out). The result here is a lot like what we got after we pulled out of Iraq in 1991. The brutal dictator is still running the show and the international community will pretend to hold hold him accountable. The people of Syria that wanted democratic reforms will be destroyed and now NOBODY in the ME that has a lick of sense will look to the US for support if they want government reform.

Hilarious.

Hilarious.

It's not really that funny - conspiracy theorists are underwear gnomes. They spelunk the gorges of humanity in search of validation.

Considering that there are 3 main Syrian CW depots and at least 50 (known) sub-depots, impoundment validation in such a war torn landscape will be virtually impossible.

It's a seemingly sensible idea in the corridors of diplomacy and politics. In the real world, not so much.

Backseat to Russia- you mean having Russia be our lap dog and arrange this- so instead of defending Syria Russia is selling them out.... oh yeah... that is a REAL win.

After weeks of bluff and posturing from the Kremlin Putin couldn't move fast enough to jump on the hook.

Well, the judges decision is in, and you win the gold medal!

Congratulations!

Cons were convinced Putin would fight to defend Syria, that WWIII was just a breath away. Now look Putin found a hatch to bail out on this mess. Assad went from bluff and buster to 'welcoming' the chance to be stripped of an effective weapon.

Putin figured a way out and bailed, Obama is still trying to figure out what to do.

Worse are those that don't know about Journalism and referenced sources.....just saying! ;)

Correction.....Obama is still trying to figure out who he can throw the blame on. Since he can never take credit for any of his ****-ups.

What are you, a j(J)ournalism major?

My 7 years, full time, of grad class smokes your "referenced sources" experience.

Careful, that is an astonishing bit of contortion you are doing there.

I also use to be one of the Midwest Media Critics.

That doesn't excuse citing garbage, it explains it.

The reason is pretty simple Bush lied put boots on the ground killed service
men and woman, lied to everyone!! Pretty easy to compare the two don't you think.

LOL !!!

" If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force one thing is clear, we want to seriously diminish the threat from Iraq's WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION PROGAM.."
Bill CLINTON 1998

That's what referenced sources are all about.....that even a Sport reporter or comics writer can even figure it out. Including those that watch Soap Operas.
