WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 (UPI) --
The number of U.S. households with an unemployed parent and a child under 18 living at home soared from 2005 to 2011, a Census Bureau report says.

The report titled, "America's Families and Living Arrangements: 2012" says that there were 2.4 million households in 2005 with an unemployed parent and at least one child under 18 in 2005 By 2011, that number had grown 33 percent to 3.2 million, the Census Bureau said Tuesday.

Report shows how recession hit families

So, can we now say that Obama policies are making it worse for the poor, and middle class yet...?

So, can we now say that Obama policies are making it worse for the poor, and middle class yet...?

Not unless you can show that it's Obamas policies and nothing else.

That's the problem on the right, you get data and than try to place blame on ONE THING, Obama. Doesn't work that way there are MANY factors in play.

It certainly destroys the narrative that Obama loves, which is America on the rebound, and things are getting better.

no you will never be allowed to state the obvious facts of reality but guess what
reality doesn't care, the only question is don't we already know what lies down this road?

It certainly destroys the narrative that Obama loves, which is America on the rebound, and things are getting better.

Ignore him

This is the same guy that has been saying for 5 years it's "Bush's fault"

Obama has wasted trillions of dollars. Robbed the middle class and the poor. His policies (especially Obamacare) are directly responsible for this misery. One only needs to look at the Reagan Recovery to see what a real recovery looks like.

It certainly destroys the narrative that Obama loves, which is America on the rebound, and things are getting better.

Of course it destroys that narrative, I never said Obama was a good president. However to blame EVERYTHING on him is silly. And before you or anyone invokes the "but the left blamed Bush on everything" card save it because I don't believe that either.

The simple fact is presidents try and spin the bad news. Bush did this as well and Obama is no different.

I don't think it is the government's job to create jobs.

#1 Why would you say this reflects on Obama? 2005 was Pre Recession. The recession began well before Obama took office and many believe that we are still feeling it's effects. Comparing current data to 2005 is completely worthless.

#2 Why would you call the policies currently implemented, "Obama's Policy's"? How many of Obama's policies have actually been implemented?
Aside from a stimulus and a tax cut, the only significant policy that Obama has managed to get past the "Party of NO" is O'Romney-Care.
A republican policy, regardless of current opinions.

Our government has been frozen for 6 years.
Least productive Congress of all American History.
More nominees filibustered than all previous Presidents combined.
More vacant positions than any time in recorded history.

We are not living under Obama's policies. We are living under the policy of NO.

There is a difference between 'spin', and outright lying...Obama is a liar.

nooo wait one second there lil buddy
ol Barry will be seen as the President to have furthered the Socialist cause more than any other!
By that measure his Presidency is a screaming success! Sadly the historians are not going to have
the luxury of looking back at this from some resplendent socialist utopia he created.
oh no lil jonny we've seen this kinda thing in the past and it never works out as it was centrally planned.

No, Bush is a liar. Obama is merely a man that does not poses enough back-bone to stand up to Liars.

We are living under the policy of NO.
That's Nobama heh
yup five years into his administration and he's still not responsible for anything
I think that's freakin' amazing
don't you?
Heck when he's not rolling back some part of the ACA he's still trying to sell it.

I only wish we could have said NO freaking way to ol Barry
No socialised healthcare
No GM bail out
No solyndra
No 6 trillion in debt
No Benghazi
No Arab spring
No ban on drilling in the Gulf
No stoppage of the keystone pipeline
No real unemployment at an actual rate of 15~17%
No four dollar a gallon gasoline
No attempt at starting a race war
No multi-meellin dollar vacations
No amnesty for illegals
no No NO!

Is that you Larry O'Donnell?

Lean: Independent :lamo

The bottom line, is that after 5 years of Obama, and his policies in place, the first two with a virtual monopoly on congress, he got what he wanted. Too bad it wasn't anything that would benefit the people that voted for him...

"The party of No"... I hope they keep right on saying no, not only no, but HELL NO! progressive policies are destructive to this nation, and I have no desire to see them passed.

I only wish we could have said NO freaking way to ol Barry

No socialised healthcare - Yeah, let them die. Good man you are.

No GM bail out - Yeah, America does not need the car industry. Let other Nations do it. (Wasn't this a great success?)

No solyndra - Agreed, however, it was worth a try. Too bad it was a bad choice.

No 6 trillion in debt - You do understand that the deficit is going down from what Obama received, correct? The man is good, but he cant walk on water.

No Benghazi - laugh, way to politicize a tragedy.

No Arab spring - Yeah, down with democracy! (not)

No ban on drilling in the Gulf - GRR! Why don't you drill in your back yard instead of mine.

No stoppage of the keystone pipeline - And this was a bad thing? Making money for Canada and big oil! woot!

No real unemployment at an... - Yeah, nice how you can even blame Obama for a recession that began before he ran for office. Do you live in Louisiana?

No four dollar a gallon gasoline - Your talking about the 4 dollar gas under Bush right? As in the first time is was $4 dollars.

No attempt at starting a race war - Then tell the GOP to stop doing it. All Obama did was be half black. They did the rest.

No multi-meellin dollar vacations - Ahh, your a Bachman fan. You do know this is all BS right? Do you know that Bush took over 4 times as many vacations?

No amnesty for illegals - What would you do with them? Pack all 11 million in trains? Ovens? Make lamp shades out of their skin?

ya really need to re-evaluate that lean click the commie box eh?

oh no Osambo has gotten everything he's wanted and the results are all so predictable
so much so in fact that only a child or a socialist can't see what's round the next bend in the road?

Is that you Larry O'Donnell?

Lean: Independent :lamo

OK, fair enough under the circumstances, however...

-I am against all forms of abortion (except in cases of rape, imminent danger to the mother, or other extreme situations)
-I am against gay marriage (but I am for gay rights and civil unions.)
-I am for making people do hard physical labor to receive Unemployment checks after the 3rd month.
-I do believe in preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons... at ANY COST.
-I do believe in requiring all future citizens to be proficient at a 3rd grade level in the English Language.

Still think I should be a Liberal or that I do not have a damn good reason for being an Independent?
I support the Democrats in most issues because they are BY FAR the lesser of 2 evils, and many of their policies do a lot of good.

I agree with you on everything but the Iran thing
and the 3rd grade Engrlish is silly they are all going to get amnesty and chant La Raza
and what's the point of drawing 99 weeks of unemployment if you have to do 'hard physical labor' that sound like work
and if you are such a racist bigot homophobe why cain't you click the Conservative box? :p

No socialised healthcare - Yeah, let them die. Good man you are.

you appear to be confusing intent with means.

No GM bail out - Yeah, America does not need the car industry. Let other Nations do it. (Wasn't this a great success?)

No, it was not. Now Detroit is a bankrupt, failing, nigh-on-3rd-world-city, where packs of wild dogs apparently exercise as much or more power than the city government. Furthermore, when you are talking of "the car industry" in America - it is the American companies who are building their cars in Mexico. Foreign companies (Mercedes, Toyota) are building their cars here.

No solyndra - Agreed, however, it was worth a try. Too bad it was a bad choice.

The government is an atrocious venture capitalist. It was never worth a try for them to attempt to pick winners and losers in the market place.

No 6 trillion in debt - You do understand that the deficit is going down from what Obama received, correct? The man is good, but he cant walk on water.

No, it is not. The last deficit for which Bush takes full credit was $538 Bn, a level that Obama has yet to reach. The 2009 Deficit, which you are attempting to place solely on Bush, includes major Obama initiatives, such as the so-called Stimulus

No Benghazi - laugh, way to politicize a tragedy.

A failure of leadership that leaves an ambassador dead is a failure of leadership that leaves an ambassador dead. Would you accuse the family and friends of the dead who want answers of politicizing a tragedy?

No Arab spring - Yeah, down with democracy! (not)

Let's see. Libya, anocracy. Egypt, military rule. Syria, bloody civil war.... where, exactly, is the democracy?

No ban on drilling in the Gulf - GRR! Why don't you drill in your back yard instead of mine.

We are trying to. It seems that someone (and by "someone", I mean our child-president) has engaged in such an utterly feckless foreign policy that the region that supplies worlds' major oil market is now at least partly aflame and wholly under threat. We need an alternative - and a real alternative, one that works. Not moss or solyndra. We need an alternative source for oil.

No stoppage of the keystone pipeline - And this was a bad thing? Making money for Canada and big oil! woot!

Yeah. That's why the unions wanted it. because they want to send money to Canada. Hey, whatever, unemployment is at a historically low point right now, so we can afford to pass on a bunch of above-average income blue collar jobs, right?

No real unemployment at an... - Yeah, nice how you can even blame Obama for a recession that began before he ran for office. Do you live in Louisiana?

No one blames Obama for the recession. We blame him for choking off a recovery.

EmployRecAlignJune2013.jpg

The recession ended in the summer of 2009. We are in the Recovery Summer, remember?

No four dollar a gallon gasoline - Your talking about the 4 dollar gas under Bush right? As in the first time is was $4 dollars.

and is high now not least due to threats to the supply chain (see above on the Middle East).

No attempt at starting a race war - Then tell the GOP to stop doing it. All Obama did was be half black. They did the rest.

On the contrary, Republicans were (naively, it turned out) generally hopeful that at least Obama would reduce charges that America was evil, America was racist, and the racial divisions. He chose not to, but rather to play to those divisions either because he viewed it as an effective political tactic or (more likely) sitting in Jeremiah Wright's church for a decade and a half actually had an impact on him.

No multi-meellin dollar vacations - Ahh, your a Bachman fan. You do know this is all BS right? Do you know that Bush took over 4 times as many vacations?

To his ranch. Which cost us the price of fuel for AF1, and which was basically a southern white house. Not Hawaii, or Martha's Vinyard, or France; and Bush didn't go off on lavish vacations in the middle of this level of real unemployment and diminished median family incomes, either.

No amnesty for illegals - What would you do with them? Pack all 11 million in trains? Ovens? Make lamp shades out of their skin?

Well I wouldn't use them to attack strawmen. What most conservatives support is enforcing E-Verify. Illegals come here for the jobs. Make the jobs extremely difficult for illegals to get, and you'll get reduced supply. At the same time, actually attempt to secure the southern border.

Ok, I can see it...But just know that the rhetorical flourishes you use come straight out of liberal tactic, and are designed to stifle debate through insult, rather than promote civil discussion. I don't agree that today's democrat is the lessor of 2 evils, I think democrats today have been co opted by progressives, and socialist in nature short term thinkers that have no ability to see the destructive nature of their 'feel good' policies for future generations...But, if you are an open mind, with the ability to see past the usual talking point pap, then I say welcome. If you are just another in a long line of antagonists in here to do little more than insult, and cause chaos, then we can end our discussions right here....I hope you are of the first I described.

So, can we now say that Obama policies are making it worse for the poor, and middle class yet...?
Only if you are foolishly blinded by partisan politics. You're comparing pre-recession to what was essentially the very end of the recession. Furthermore, Obama wasn't in office until 2009, and his first two years were wholly the effects of the recession which was well underway before he even took office.

So, like I said, only a blinded partisan fool could say those were the effects of Obama's policies, especially considering you even said in the headline it was a study of how the recession affected families, not Obama's policies.

In fairness, when you post a question in the opening post of a thread which is clearly refuted by your own thread title, it's kind of hard to resist the insult.

And only a liberal hack would foolishly pretend that recessions in this country, at least until Lord Barry took the helm, rebounded twice as strong as the downturn that marked them. Also, Barry had near complete control of both houses of congress for the first two years, and couldn't be bothered to do things that actually helped the situation, instead he chose to pay off political allies, and ram broad new entitlements down our throats....Now we are 5 years in and it is still a mess out there....Great job!

And you're a spinster. Birds of a feather take a **** together.

So you expect any President to come in and snap his fingers and say its over with folks go spend money?? Sound like you want a dictator more than a President? Obama has done better than I expected and better than the Republican fools that got us in to this mess. Yes that includes the rights God Reagan.

When a proud "C" student makes a mess on his watch it's a big mess... The biggest for sixty years or more...
