Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.[W:123]

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Time fits the crime. I won't get too worked up about this. He'll be in his late 50s when he's released. I hope it was worth the majority of his adult life.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Prison won't be too kind to that soft, pretty-faced little boy.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

seems kind of high for what I know about the case, but whatev's. Obama will pardon him as a hero in January 2016

agreed.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Sounds like he will be eligible for parole in about 10 years. That is just not enough.

In federal military prison there is no parole. He will serve 35 years.

considering he is being credited with "time served", he will be eligible for parole in just over 6 years.

Not what your source says.

Could be, I guesstimated.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

The heinous crime of showing the public classified data, should've gotten 36 years.

According to the military, Manning is required to serve one-third of the sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.

he is being credited with 1,405 days time served. rough calculation...he would be eligible for parole in ~ 7 years 10 months

I just ran the math and, not accounting for leap years and assuming a 30 day month... around 7 years 10 months with time served

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

I think people should realize that this was a politically charged case. A parole board would have a death wish if it paroled him within 4 years. It just won't happen. Being eligible for parole and being paroled are two completely different things. Charles Manson and his clique have been up for parole for the last 20 years. I don't think any have been released to this day. Again, eligibility for parole and being paroled are entirely different things.

No he will not as Obama has led a massive war on whistleblowers. (Obama Wages War on Whistleblowers and Journalists - SPIEGEL ONLINE)

The architect of Obama's harshness in regards to whistleblowers has said “My background is in the Navy, and it is good to hang an admiral once in a while as an example to the others." (https://www.techdirt.com/articles/2...d-to-hang-admiral-once-while-as-example.shtml)

So, no unfortunately Manning will most likely not be pardoned.

don't know about that...seems that the only whistleblowers Obama has been harsh with are the one who blow the whistle on him. ;)

I would somewhat disagree as Obama has continued a lot of Bush's policies and expanded them even further in some cases. It seems, at least to me, that Obama and Bush adhere to the same ideology of power, just that they have different ways of going about it.

Not near enough for this low life POS.
U.S. soldier Manning gets 35-year prison sentence

The only low-life thing he did was joining the military. He redeemed himself more or less when he switched sides against the gummint and for the People.

The real low-lifes are the ones still stuck in the military, including the CINC.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Now that it is over, its probably time for a little healing. I see the guy as a pretty pathetic individual. I dont think he is evil incarnate and doubt he was engaging long term thinking. He was pretty messed up, found someone that exploited that, and looked to please Assange trying to fit in. Doesnt excuse his actions nor does it mitigate his crime or punishment. Probably some things we can learn from the whole experience. Im sure he will have at least a few years to think through things.

I agree that he is not an evil guy, but he was selfish. From what I have read, he did not do this to be a whistleblower, but he did it for himself, because he had issues with his superiors, and wanted to get back at them. A lot of what he released was good in that the public now knows about the crap our government does in our names, and behind our backs, but Manning, considering the circumstances surrounding this, certainly deserves the time.

my thoughts exactly. he did not do this out of any sense of patriotism or for the welfare of his fellow citizens. it was a petty act of vengance to "get back" at those whom he thought had mistreated him. **** him and I hope he enjoys Leavenworth.

A war on whistleblowers is inaccurate. A war on illegal whistleblowers is. Or more accurately, upholding the laws of this country.

35 years sounds about right to me. Parole in 10 years does not. I agree with you.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Why hasn't he been stripped of his uniform and rank yet?

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

I do not consider what he did to be a bad thing and actually am glad he did it. A lot of that info should have never been classified anyway, and our government seems to use the need for certain things to be secret to make things that should be open to the general public secret. Still, he made an agreement to protect that information and for whatever reason he broke it. If it was the wromng reason he still did what should have been done, but sometimes doing the right thing is hard.

Some of the people around here seem really bothered he exposed a dirty secret that makes them feel shamed, and that seems to be making them very vindictive towards him. If you are so worried that the governments assault on innocents is happening then maybe you should decide it is time to stop casting votes for those sorts of people. It is not manning's fault this was so shameful, it is the tolerance you have for the actions of the corrupt and generally evil. I am glad he did what he did to expose the villainy of the US government and it's crap throughout the world. A respectable leader ashamed of his outlandish and illegal actions would have pardoned him, but we are not going to ever see one of those in our lifetimes because so many people endorse it as long as they never have to be reminded of it and how much of a part of it they were for voting for their leaders.
