Former Disney star Lee Thompson Young commits suicide at 29

If you are cognitively aware of these types of thoughts, you're over the first hurdle. You know you aren't feeling well, you know you have the potential to feel much, much worse. I hope that if you ever get to that point, you get help. At least you know that this is a possibility, and I think that might help you out.

I'm working on it. I just know that for me, it's a long term thing. Dysthymic disorder is a long term low grade depression, but some things push you over into a major episode.

Tragically - that's true.

I'm appalled that some treatments for depression 'could lead to increased thoughts of suicide'

My husband said the wrong medicines "make it easier to not care" - and that's not in a good way, but in a bad way. It's makes it easier to not care how many others rely on you, need you, or love you.

Medication alone will not do the trick but they can be helpful if used with good counseling.

The sadness you felt over the breakup of your family is a legitimate response. Depression is not. We may often look for a reason or excuse for our depression and select something that might appear obvious. But sometimes the causes can run much deeper than that, and that's where some professional counseling can be of great help.

Sure, but the dysthymic disorder predated that event by a long time. The therapy continues, as it probably will for the rest of my life. So it goes.

It's great that you're getting help and really too bad that many others, out of false pride or concern they will appear 'weak', don't do it. It's a disease and should be looked at as such.

You probably know already that getting help was one of the bravest things you ever did. My sincere congratulations and best wishes.

Now, in an attempt to possibly ward off premature Alzheimers, we can go back to tearing each other apart for our political views - a rather trivial matter when compared with the real stuff of life.

Watching episode nine and seeing Detective Frost is freaky.
But Angie's lanky frame puts my mind at ease
