Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry' [W:245]

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

That is your incorrect opinion, which, with a few dollars, will buy you a cup of coffee.

But I'm not buying it.

My observation, after living on this planet for seventy years, is that's not the way that life works.

But, hey, believe whatever you want to believe.

Won't cost me a nickel, or cramp my lifestyle.
You have children or grand children?
Would that be your opinion had your child been the victim of a brutal attack?
"Oh, heck. Its just excersizing free will". To beat my son half to death.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Should be charged as adults. They're 15 and should possess the maturity to know that beating a kid to the point of causing serious injury is wrong. This isn't a kid stealing or using/selling drugs.

Curious though...where are all the "anti-bullying" advocates?

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

I don't think that when people are beating others, they're thinking.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

A teen taking a joy ride in a stolen car is exercising poor judgement. Juveniles sometimes exercise poor judgement.
Beating someone for having told about your drug business is an adult action deserving of adult punishment. It goes way beyond just poor judgement.

At least, that's my judgement.

But they are not adults. Just what kind of sentencing do you think they should serve? Do you think they should be thrown into adult prisons?

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Kids are different from adults for the very reason that we don't let kids drink alcohol, gamble or vote - which is, they are immature and do not have the same capacity as adults to make sound judgement. Why would we treat a kid the same as an adult that commits an assault when we as a society have already deemed that kids do stupid things because their judgement is not developed. Punish them? Absolutely Punish them harshly? Absolutely if it fits the crime. Try them as adults? Why? When he as a society have recognized that kids should not be allowed to drink, gamble vote because their judgement is questionable. Otherwise...aren't we being a wee bit hypocritical as a society?

I just don't get the point of going through all of this nonsense.

Your issue isn't their age. Yours is their skin color.

You would be having a very different conversation if three 15 year old white kids brutally attacked a 13 year old black kid.

Heterosexual white males can't be bullied.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

I am against government usurping parental rights to raise their children.

when kids do violent crime? Then it's obvious the government (courts) have to intervene.
The intent of punishment is to convince perpetrators, and others tempted to be, NOT to commit more crimes.
These kids should be incarcerated in a tough love boot camp until graduated from high school.
Not just for a period of time or untill age 18.
Kept at boot camp UNTILL they successfully complete a rigorous education.

Maybe, just maybe, they'll straighten out and lead successful lives.

Otherwise they probably, all three, will be dead before 30, and cause much more grief before they die.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Something tells me this incident is nothing compared to what these three will do to others in the not-to-distant future.

Well I honestly believe that sometimes teenagers can make stupid decisions and do some really stupid things. No matter how much you drill into their heads, they are still going to make errors in judgment and when they get together with other friends, forget about it. Then mob mentality seems to prevail a lot of times with teenagers. They aren't perfect. Nobody is, no matter how "good" your parenting may have been.

Anyway, that in no way means that they should get off lightly. They need to learn the hard way and not be given a "pass" for this type of violent behavior regardless of the reasons behind it.

I mostly agree, but a slap on the wrists is exactly what the prosecution is offering here.

That is projection on your part.

I did not say that, you did. I wouldn't make a comment like that.

I believe that some people like to try to put their words in other peoples mouths. Why do they do this?

Maybe because they are ashamed to let the world get a peek inside their brain and see how they really think.

If you have something to say, go ahead and say it, don't try to ascribe your far right thoughts and comments to others.

You do know what a question mark at the end of a sentence is right?

You know so little....it has nothing to do with race. I haven't even watched the video, because it is irrelevant to the point that I am making which is a general point of view. I didn't even know that there was different races involved until reading your post. DOH!

I agree.

Of course everyone should teach their children the difference between right and wrong.

But some children are going to to bad things no matter what they have been taught. That is a sad fact of life.

And they need to pay an appropriate price for the bad things that they do.

YES!!!!! Five years min for that bad of gang beating.

I don't know what the criteria are for charging a juvinile as an adult. But they beat the kid severely and broke his arm because he ratted them out as drug dealers.

It really sounds like they are acting as adults to me.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

It somewhat has to do with race, because parental quality has racial correlations.

I Heard about the posible 9 month probation for the beating but I haven't Heard anything about the drug dealing which was the catalyst for this event.

Was that swept under the rug?

No drugs were found, so nothing. Its hearsay. One of them may get more because he took a phone from the beaten kid.
Wanted to make sure he didnt call the police.

I am sure this was not the first time this gang sold drugs on campus. I want to hear about an investigation into these three and their previous actions in drug dealing and the charges that stem from it.

You never will.

Is that the way adults act?

I agree with serving time but in a juvenile facility. Five years is questionable. Do they have any prior convictions? Is this the first time they've been in trouble before. All of these things have to be taken into consideration.

If these kids were sentenced to an adult facility, what kind of people will they be when they come out? Because they will come out eventually, and you want them to be better not worse.

Yes, some do act like that and worse.

I agree that the sentence should be harsher and they should have to serve some time in jail.

Listen, I have first hand experience with this.
Probations, slaps on the wrists, scared straight, apology letters. Total waste of time and money.
Put the onus on parents from the get to to raise their kids right.
No kid is going to be a perfect angel. I was a hellion. But I knew when to pull back from going from raising hell, to crime.
Why? Because my parents raised me right.
