If you do that, you'll have an assload of 17 year olds that will do absolutely whatever, whenever, because they know the slate gets wiped clean in less than a year.

You don't suddenly become smart at 18. People know wrong and right long before they become a legal adult.

A strict punishment causes a deterrent to keep it from happening again if there is barely any consequences for their actions what deterrent is that?

Or if the attempted destruction on a child were carried out one on one?

From what I understand, the victim was left with a broken arm, and many other serious injuries. Considering the bus driver claimed he thought the kids were going to beat the child to death, and they apparently only stopped when the driver finally confronted them, I think the objective of death would have been met had they not stopped. Keep in mind the brutal beating was because they decided to damage someone for taking action against their illegal drug activity.

It seems quite clear in the video from the bus, these three intended not just to hurt, but to maim the victim. Using seats to steady themselves while they stomped on the victim and brutally beat the victim all at the same time shows these three to be a pack of violent preditors. They are an aberration of humanity, and should be treated as such.

In my opinion, there is no return from the anti-human behavior they displayed. Society should expect to be kept safe from such aberrations as long as legally possible. It would not surprise me to learn the three if jailed, would become institutionalized and never learn to behave in a manner that would allow them to be released into free society.

Threefold really:
1) punish them
2) take steps to see they never re-offend
3) set an example so their peers know there are real consequences for ag assault, no matter the age of the offender.

It's not about the kid getting beat up not having a right to go to school and be safe. That should go without saying.

It's about criminalizing everything now-a-days. These kids are pretty ****ing bad. Don't get me wrong...they are selling drugs and then beat up a kid that told on them....but.....I remember a lot of incidents in school that could of ended up differently if their acts were treated as crimes. Most of them are productive members of society and grew out of immature childish behavior.

Like I said idiots and criminals in EVERY race...blacks some how manage to make up half the prison system while only being 12% of the population...

If these statements are true then I agree with you. I didn't realize that the kid had serious injuries like a broken arm.

he was exhibiting his reasonableness in both instances

it is reasonable for someone who publicly reveals drug dealing on campus to the authorities to not be surprised if there are consequences of such disclosure about criminal activity. one should not expect criminals to view the law as a deterrent in the way that non-criminals do

but anticipating the possibility of such consequences and being deserving of them are two very different things

There's really only ONE race and a whole lot of differring cultures. Gangs are a problem in every culture and their composition mirrors the local culture they live in. As to the prison bit, not even close. Here in Oregon we're talking 9% black and 73% white.

This is exactly what Bill O'Reilly has been trying to say. The system is too lenient, the courts are too lenient and the parents are too lenient. To stop this type of teenage crime, the teens should have to do some serious time paying for their actions. The parents should also be held accountable for the teens' actions and pay up. The school bus driver should have intervened to stop the assault rather than just say, "You going to jail"!! The normal slap on the wrist in these types of crimes just perpetuates the problem.
