Obama-mask clown gets lifetime Missouri fair ban. Just, or too harsh?[W:395]

How would everyone here felt if the rodeo clown dressed as the pope or why not jesus himself.

Unless you are political comedian I think you want to avoid politics, religion, sexual acts and cultures when performing in a public arena.

Just picture the backlash if the clown came out as the pope and was being chased by a bull. Oh yeah, catholics would just laugh it off.......

When I perform in public I stay away from any of those hot topics and never, never let a cuss word out. You are a performer and you are only good as your last performance.

I wish the clown in the white house would put on an obama mask and hang himself from a chandelier.

Surely you're educated enough to know how "insulted" was used there.

It's like when Muslims bitch about Muhammed being insulted. Obviously he's not, because the ****er's dead.

You are still deifying a human being...even when you use the Muslim analogy. Obama is a politician....one who I agree with on more things than I don't...that's why I voted for him....twice.

He's not a God or Demigod.....he's a man....nothing more.

But I bet it made your blood boil when people said that about Bush's medical procedure....didn't it?

I wouldn't care..... I suppose I would be offended but I wouldn't recommend any official "punishment."

I agree. That's what this boils down to...the punishment. I think a lifetime ban is too harsh. However, I'd have been cool with a stern warning.

Something like..."look man, I get it....you don't like Obama(or the pope, Jesus, or whoever)...but keep your issues to yourself or the.next time...we'll have to get rid of you....we're paying you to do a job....not to make commentary".

That would have been fine with me.

Did Obama...(your Messiah, apparently) come out and say he was insulted? Did he comment on it at all? I'll wait....check it out.

I heard Obama said ~"that could have been my son" and he's against lifetime bans from the fair.

Or a ban from the fair for a year or two. Heck, A-Rod got a several year ban for doping. This guy got a lifetime ban for a very stupid political statement? Seems extreme.

I wouldn't even issue a warning....

Individuals have civil liberties..... I could give a rats ass if anyone was offended....

Our Bill of Rights isn't in place to protect individuals from being offended - the document is in place to protect those from those WHO ARE OFFENDED and want our government to persecute the offenders..

If anyone needs a warning it's the assholes who WANT any warning or punishment for this "clown" embracing the First Amendment...

He's not "embracing" his first amendment rights when he's being paid to perform. He's on the job. He can do or say.anything.he wants on his own time, on his own dime.

I agree but correct me if I'm mistaken... wasn't this a state fair? A state funded event?
••Sure, it was a state fair. So what? I remember George Bush masks - was anybody barred for life for wearing one. Where did a sense of humor go? Making fun of the President is an American pastime - or at least it was....
I'll be sure to lock away my Richard Nixon mask before they come for me.

Maybe I'm not smart enough to see what the problem is.

Denial mode? That was fast!

Ooooh!! That stings!

••Are you sure you're responding to the right person? I think you've confused a rather dull conversation I had with someone else.

Just as a followup to my previous.post....I am a performing musician. I get paid to play.....not to give social commentary to my audience.

If I were to choose the latter rather than the former, I doubt if I'd get many gigs or requests to return.

He made fun of their messiah...plain and simple. To the obamatards he is god.

Its one thing to be annoyed about something and another thing to take action about it. Punishing someone for mocking any President or other big shot owner is as unamerican as you can get. Surely, we still have a few rights?

I wouldn't call 211 games a "several" year suspension, especially since he's still playing and earning. Braun, A-Fraud, and the other 12 Hispanic surnames are just as guilty as Pete Rose and the 1919 Blacksox, if not more.

The mizzou dude will be working for another red-state fair and promoted by FOX/KOCH in no time.

Apparently you don't know what a rodeo clown does...

Furthermore I would love to know where in his ****ing contract it says "thou shalt not mock Obama."

This BS against Obama is reaching new lows each day, many times in front of Federally-elected Republican pols. I'm all for the Sedition law as in WW I. Any Dem pol questioning or allowing this talk against Bush/Cheney back in the day would have been RIPped on as unpatriotic. Will Repubs reap what they have sewn?

I know exactly what a rodeo clown does....he keeps the bull from attacking the rider. Do you think I am ignorant? I am and have always been a country boy....tractor pulls, rodeos and horseshoes....don't assume too much about me because I am a pro-labor Democrat. I can shoot a deer at 100 yards in heavy brush...and I can clean, skin and butcher it myself.

Furthermore....you don't like the way the conversation is going....so you are moving the goalpost. A pro-employer person like yourself ought to be able to figure out that the Employer has the final say on disciplinary matters of employees.

Lastly, the rodeo clown is a PERFORMER as well as a safety net. He entertains the audience while the rider gets up off his butt and gets to safety and the next rider comes out of the chute.

I considered Bush to be the worst President of my lifetime and he got plenty of mocking. Did anyone get punished? Maybe they did. Maybe they didn't. But I would have been outraged if someone had mocked Bush and got in actual trouble for it. Piss someone (or many) off? Sure. But punished?

While I can't say Obama turned out to be the improvement I voted for, at least he's done a couple of things I liked. But I can't believe that someone would get in actual trouble for this. Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush (again:roll:) or Obama, people have a right to make fun of them. It's a small price they pay as a public figure that's going to live on our dime for the rest of their lives.

To me, this isn't about political sides, it's about time-honored freedom of lawful speech.

You actually won me over. Us cat people are pretty smart.

I do think the talk at Republican townhalls with Congressmen where voters can call Obama everything like a commie and kenyan and then some without being checked is way over the top and may ignite someone to use their 2nd amendment remedy, as so many righties have warned about if they don't win elections.

I never liked Bush myself but if you cant acknowledge how ****ed up our present economy is and how ****ed up our society is and how ****ed up our government is then all I have to say is holy ****...

The only people I could possibly see believing that Obama is a good president are those living for free - weather it's government grants, student loans, welfare, food stamps or whatever he gives you presently FOR FREE...

In the real world when you're not getting free **** from your government - IT ****ING SUCKS - because your free money has to come from somewhere....

Guys like me are being discriminated against and are forced to pay for your FREE ****...

I don't see too many individuals satisfied with higher taxes, more laws, more regulations just so losers can live for free while they study "Obama philosophy" on government grants and live like they would have in their parents basement reading "Dreams From My Father."

Wait.....what? Would you like to rephrase that? I don't know what you are getting at.

Let's take it back to Jesus....since this happened in Missouri....one of the bread basket States of the Bible belt....

If this guy dressed up as Jesus...and did the same thing. Why shouldn't he be told about his actions?

Because, you and I are almost in agreement here.

1. Is the rodeo clown an employee of the fair?

2. Does not the Employers of the clown have the right to determine what is and is not appropriate?

3. If the clown chooses to wing it and do whatever he wants to without the prior approval of his employer....does he not have to answer for his actions....if his employers find his actions offensives?
