Why Hillary Clinton is going after voter ID laws?

yes racial discrimination it is a problem but so is voter fraud, but democrats need to keep the false narrative of rapid racial discrimination alive so to use it as a wedge issue against republicans just like the false narrative they created with the BS war on women

Voter fraud is not a problem.

Show where that is the case (only DL accepted as ID) in ANY state. You can't because it quite simply is not true.
Sorry I should have government issued ID which for most people is a drivers license. So sue me.

Why should a person who has voted for 40 or 50 years be denied the right to vote simply because they don't have an approved id? Here in Oregon, the only thing required is your signature. The penalty for forgery is a stiff fine and the possibility of jail time.

You said "wealthy minorities". It stands to reason you meant the top 1%.

You're cherry-picking and stripping context to repair what you've said. It's not working.

Did you know that I have a racially mixed family, too? And that my niece and her kids are mixed race?

That's nice, we're all mutts has always been my position. But then I didn't label you a racist so that info is neither here nor there.

I've lived here in Oregon since the 70s, I know how easy it is to vote here since we passed vote by mail. In case you haven't had to go for renewel yet, you might be surprised. You now have to provide state approved photo ID when registering. In addition, you must provide a birth cert or other approved docs to get or renew that state approved ID.

No need to sue, you took the stance you took and the truth of it is there for all to see. State ID is free to those who cannot afford it and is available to even the poorest and most elderly.

The voter ID laws being passed in conservative red states with large black populations are based on race. Everybody knows it and everybody knows the conservatives deny it, including the conservatives denying it.

No, everybody doesn't know it.

Some people are so conditioned to see nearly everything through race, gender or sexual orientation it clouds their thinking on nearly every issue.

Early voting costs taxpayers extra, shortens the campaign when key issues can and are brought up in the final days (not to mention deaths of some running for office) and is a distraction from the main event. It should be done away with all together. If you can't make it on election day, vote absentee ballot. Completely fair for everybody.

I can hear the whines now. The lines are to long. Well, vote a competent person in as supervisor of elections in your county (probably means not voting for a democrat).

I guess the statistics show that it is democrats that overwhelmingly vote early in conservative red states. From that, it doesn't take genius to figure out that the voter ID laws eliminating early voting is aimed at democrats. And Blacks overwhelmingly vote democrat in conservative states. Take N. Carolina for example...

Almost 50% of democrats in N. Carolina vote early compared to 30% of republicans. Of those Democrat early voters almost 30% were black.

United States Elections Project

Every state seems to have a different criteria for voter ID. For example, some red states will only accept a valid drivers license. But a lot of the elderly don't drive or can't get drivers licenses.

:violin

Link to that?

Not in Texas, a big red state. The ID costs $6.

TxDPS - Apply for an Identification (ID) Card

What kind of identification will be required to qualify to vote in person under the new program?

A voter will be required to show one of the following forms of photo identification at the polling location before the voter will be permitted to cast a vote.

Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
United States passport

VoteTexas.gov » Need ID?

Any American citizen has ample opportunity to vote. The distortion that those not on the left wanting to prevent people from voting is absurd. Want to vote, prove who you claim to be, there are a number of ways to do that.

BTW you also don't need an ID to vote by ballot.

We've lived in Oregon since 1972. I don't believe a photo-id is required when registering, but in order to renew my driver license I needed to order a birth certificate from New York State. I think it cost me $50. When voting your signature is the important thing, forget the signature and your vote doesn't count.

Why Hillary Clinton is going after voter ID laws

The former (and future?) presidential candidate just made her most overtly political speech since stepping down as the nation's top diplomat

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ended a self-imposed political hiatus on Monday, slamming Republican-backed voter ID laws in a biting speech in San Francisco.

Clinton said the Supreme Court in June had done serious damage with its landmark Voting Rights Act ruling, which cleared the way for states with a history of discrimination to tighten voting laws without federal approval. She also denounced voter ID laws pushed through by state legislatures controlled by the GOP, saying they were being justified as tools to fight the "phantom epidemic of voter fraud," but really just made it harder for minorities and the poor to exercise their voting rights. She referred to North Carolina's new election rules, which were signed into law by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory this week, as the "greatest hits of voter suppression."

Democrats cannot win without voter fraud.....

Also, if it's discrimination to ask for an ID to vote then it's discrimination to ask for an ID to drive.......

The anti-ID law argument is retarded..... Not to mention its racist in nature to assume minorities a) don't have ID's or b) are unable to obtain ID's....

Of course not one damn democrat/progressive has a goddamn logical retort for that...

This is NOT and NEVER has been about voter ID, which I strongly support, and not just to shut up the fright wing. It is about early voting and same-day registration. It is about bastardizing the 10th amendment. It is about reinforcing recent political gains, which shouldn't be hard with their egregious remap. It is about taking the senate and then going for impeachment in 2015.

Certainly the precedent is part of it...

Our federal government has been on a mission to show "who's the boss" with their attempts and shots at the Tenth Amendment.. Of course 9 decide that.

I agree that is part of it however, progressives depend on voter fraud and the votes of illegal aliens - they will fight for those votes tooth and nail.

They need Mickey Mouse and Pedro to vote for them to vote early and often.

Blacks were early voters and tended to vote on Sundays. North Carolina just eliminated early voting and voting on Sundays.

And this is the dead giveaway to the GOP plan. What is the point of eliminating early voting? Where is the fraud there?

92-Year-Old Who Once Faced Literacy Tests Sues North Carolina Over New Wave Of Voter Suppression | ThinkProgress

When Rosanell Eaton was 21 years old and living in segregated North Carolina, she became one of the first African Americans in her county registered to vote, after successfully completing a literacy test that required her to recite the preamble to the Constitution. But now, at 92 years old, she faces new obstacles under the voter suppression law signed by Gov. Pat McCrory (R) Monday. For one thing, she may not qualify for the voter ID card required under the new law, because the name on her birth certificate is different from the name on her driver’s license and voter registration card. Reconciling this difference will be a costly and time-consuming administrative endeavor. For another, she has participated in early voting since it was instituted in the state. Now, it’s been cut back a week.

But there has been little to no cases of voter fraud. How do we depend on something that does not exist?

I find it comical that the GOP, libertarians, and the Tea Party have been crying about the government intruding in people's lives and yet they are the ones lately that have been doing it.

She can still vote early, and she doesn't need a photo ID until the 2016 election. Should be enough time, don't you think?

I do not understand the resistance to requiring a photo ID to Vote. Here are only SOME of the things that require a Photo ID. What makes Voter ID so evil?

Grocery stores ( if you are using Credit Card )
Gas stations (when you are buying anything using Credit card)
Liquor store.( Even if you do not buy and accompany with others)
Dance Clubs and Bars
Mail pick up from FedEx, UPS or any others
Public Library (for getting library Card )
Casino (even if you do not play)
Banks ( if you want to withdraw money or check balance)
Airport
Any stores where you buy using Credit Card.
Fast Food places (if you use credit card)
Restaurants (if you use credit card)
Any corporate offices ( if you are visiting anyone, for Visitor ID)
Coffee shops ( if you use credit card)
Renting anything for outdoor Jet Skis, Boats, Canoe, etc
Car Rentals ( You need Driver’s license for sure)
Any theme parks like Disney, etc for rentals
Any outdoor activity like Sky diving, Bunge Jumping, etc

She even managed to play the race card.
Does Hillary think she is going to get 97% of the black vote...or even inspire a significant minority voter turnout? I mean..I know she is really relatable and has such a close relationship with the black community and all. I think she even attended a black church that one time when she was campaigning...

Is having ID to vote really an intrusion on peoples lives? How so?

Yeah, it was you. Everytime someone mentions a legitimate concern about racism...people like you pull the race card.

I don't see where she showed how this was a legitimate concern. I just saw a bunch of conjectures.

The problem is not voter Id's, it is requiring very specific photo Id's and preventing people from using other forms of identification.

Are they not allowing a driver's licence to be used? This is news to me.
