Wrinkle in Health Law Vexes Lawmakers’ Aides

I'd say pay the $500 penalty (or whatever it would be at their salary level), but from what I understand, DC is not the most healthy of places to be living these days - might want to keep that insurance. Sucks for them (hopefully)

But do the politics of the situation really allow that?

Of course.

Remember how quickly the Congress acted to reduce flight delays due to the "sequester" when it came time for them to fly home? When it affects them personally, even Congress can put aside partisan bickering and political games and pass a meaningful bill.

But the flight delay threat had general applicability. This doesn't. And even though Republican members have a personal interest in this, many of them would pay a huge political price for enabling an Obamacare "fix".

Interesting and pretty cool, but wasn't the right wing whining that congress was exempt from Obamacare? Isn't that one of the claims that they have been spouting that congress doesn't have to participate in Obamacare?

LOL!!!

Looks to me like the Republicans offered the Democrats a bunch of rope...and the Democrats cheerfully tied a noose around their neck in their zeal to get Obamacare passed. Now the noose is tightening and the Democrats don't know how to untie the rope. The best thing they could do is repeal the whole damned thing because there are probably a bunch more nooses out there just waiting to be felt.

Sucks to be a Democrat right now.

Wow, that is terrible. Hey, can you imagine not being wealthy and trying to pay for health insurance?

It was precisely that "whining" that resulted in this delicious provision. They didn't have this in the initial draft!

It would cost them some political capital, as you say. Too many of them are safely in gerrymandered districts to worry very much about re election, however. I think they'll go for it.

It'll be just like the FAA sequester. The second Congresspeople start getting personally affected, an amendment will fly through faster than you can say "Congress is a large body of inept, corrupt, selfish douchebags who couldn't govern their way out of a Wendy's bathroom."

If Republicans can't be arsed to fix problems they themselves perceive with Obamacare, they're just proving that winning is more important to them than governing. Proving that they're willing to accept negative affects to the country as long as it makes Democrats look bad.

....of course, they've been proving this since 2009, so...

As this case shows, Democrats don't need any help to look bad...they manage that just fine on their own.

And, the Republicans have already tried...over and over...to fix the Obamacare problems. The Senate Democrats won't let that happen, though.

I know you'll try to use any situation to make the Republicans look bad, Deuce, but face it...this one is all on the Democrats.

Not sure how you get "even the Republicans want O...etc" out of that article. It made one minor reference to "bipartisan", but the bulk of it was about Obama and the Democrats.

No...I think the Republicans would prefer dumping all of Obamacare rather than expect Obama to do anything to fix it.

I find it amusing that the Senate Democrats expect Obama to fix their ****-up, though.

This is nothing like the FAA sequester. This affects Congress and Congress alone.

Okay...

Y'all can rest easy.

Obama fixed everything.

Obama Solves Health Care Problem for Lawmakers, Staff (Updated) | The World's Greatest Deliberative Body

All it took was the Obama administration making a decision...enacting a new rule.

It doesn't matter WHAT the law says, Obama decides how it's going to be.

This is how our government operates nowadays.

Why do we vote, again???

Not everything the government does actually has to go through Congress. A lot of people really have no idea just how much is delegated to the Executive branch.

This is nothing like the FAA sequester. This affects Congress and Congress alone.

It turned out exactly the same: Congress immediately solves a problem once it affects them, but not a minute sooner.

Oh...I am aware of how much is decided by someone other than the Legislative Branch. I also consider that to be part of our problems.

And, to your response to wbcoleman...in this case, Congress did nothing to solve this problem...not two years ago when they first knew about it...or now. Again...part of our problems.

Decided by other branches under authority granted by Congress.

Congress fixed the problem when it started to actually affect them, not when they knew about it.

hmmm...maybe you know something about this issue that I don't. Exactly what did Congress do to fix this particular Obamacare problem?

What did Congress do, other than screech? Nothing, unlike with the FAA slowdown, which (let me remind you) affected their constituents.
