Texas Senate confiscates tampons while debating anti-abortion bill [W:155]

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

I'll try one more time:

What if it was done because security had been alerted to a possible disturbance planned and involving tampons?

Which it was, but the miscommunication was that the rumor apparently involved used products.

We still usually run with the assumption that women may need them at any time. There is a level of decorum that should continue to be observed with such products.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

But you yourself said it what happened here was force.

You're right, I chose that word poorly. People were given the choice between their perfectly legal, not-a-physical-threat personal property and their right to observe the workings of their government. Either lose your property or lose your rights. That's why I've been insisting on calling it stealing.

Again, I ask, why are you trying to minimize the actions of the guards if you believe they were engaged in illegal behavior? Why would you give these terrible thugs the benefit of the doubt that they did not use their weapons?

I'm not minimizing their actions in any way or giving them the benefit of the doubt in any way. I've been very vocally calling them out for what they did all over this thread.

You aren't paying attention. I said I don't care. They were letting people in with guns. There's no way it's appropriate for them to ban tampons.

A truly excellent point. You can't just "hold it." When you start bleeding, that's it.

They were free to put one in before entering the event. I presume one would last through the event.

So put a tampon in before you enter.

Are we now claiming that the women involved are children and unable to take care of themselves?

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

Why would you put one in before you needed it?

In case you do, since you cannot carry one unused into the event.

C'mon, this ain't genius level problem solving.

This isn't about problem solving, it's about the fact that the practice of taking them was an absurd, immoral overreaction.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

You aren't paying attention. I said I don't care.

So you don't care about security warnings, avoiding problems or dealing with direct security concerns.

All you care about is guns? Then go to the gun control subforum and post away.

For a minute there, it was about the problem of not having a tampon ready. You continue to abandon every useless argument you present.

What I am saying is that when we're talking about an environment where lethal weapons are permitted, it is completely insane to take away tampons.

I don't care about guns, I care about consistency. Just about every time I've piped up on this forum for some time now, that's what I've piped up about.

Actually, it's about both. I'm mad about the inconsistency, and until someone can show me where I can read about what kind of advance notice people had about the tampons, I'm not just going to take someone's word for it.

At this point, you've dropped every lame argument you attempted and you've resorted to spamming BS about guns. Go to the gun control forum if that is ALL you care about.

I have? Really? Whatever you say.

You wouldn't want to presume. Furthermore, when it is a social custom and expectation to have women carry them on her person at nearly all times, you wouldn't think this would be a disproportionate response?

If a tampon is used as a weapon, it's an "arm" right? You have a right to bear those. Doesn't say the word "guns" it says "arms."

Just because the weapon isn't lethal doesn't change that.

I think as liberals we need to start speaking the same language as conservatives. Don't show up with tampons, show up with loaded shotguns.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

Yes, you have:

1. They were not given notice.
2. They were not given a choice.
3. The items were stolen.
4. They NEEDED a spare tampon - as if one would not last for the event.

All BS.

The only thing you have left is "GUNS!!11!!" and that does not constitute an informed and critical argument.

I haven't abandoned any of those points. I've consistently argued whatever particular point of mine someone wanted to take issue with.

The difference is the people with weapons weren't threatening to use them. The people with tampons had plans.

It was a reaction to a specific threat and no real inconvenience for anyone.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

It was enough of one for them to rescind the order.

Look, dude, slamming a tampon up there as a preventative measure is not exactly undue inconvenience.

There was a security reaction to a specific threat and there was no real problems involved... until hysterical people tried to make it into something else.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

No, the authorities were told they had plans. If we're talking about a violent attack that is one thing, I approve of preemptive measures there. I even approve of preemptive measures against the use of biological waste or property damage.

This is nowhere near the same thing, and the appropriate response was to wait until people actually broke the law and then punish them. This way punishes everyone with a presumption of guilt.
