A former member of the elite U.S. Navy SEALs has come out to say she's now a woman.Kristin Beck, formerly Chris, served 20 years as a SEAL and fought on some of the most dangerous battlefields in the world, but after she left the service she realized she wasn't living the life she wanted.

"Chris really wanted to be a girl and felt that she was a girl and consolidated that identity very early on in childhood," said Anne Speckhard, co-author of Beck's biography "Warrior Princess," which was published over the weekend. Speckhard told ABC News Beck suppressed that secret for decades, however, through the trials of SEAL training and the harrowing missions that followed, growing a burly beard as she fought on the front lines of American special operations.

Why do people continue to believe they can change sexes? Are people really this stupid?

Well. I sure didn't see THAT coming.

Whatever makes him happy

re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

Personally I think after doing all he's done, he deserves a little happiness in whatever form he finds it along with all the respect we would place on any other US Navy SEAL.

Now he looks like an ugly liberal chick.

I used the word sex, not the useless term gender. :2razz:

Well there's been no surgery yet. Doesn't the presence of the penis still make that person a "he"? I ask with sincerity. I'm not very familiar with this whole thing. I just don't know too many "shes" with a penis.

I don't know, but inverting the dick and doing Frankenstein work doesn't make a vagina. Call me crazy if you want, but yeah, I'm not buying that story.

Realize that I understand and to an extent agree with your point. The intentional calling her "he" is kinda a dick move towards some one who has done more for this country than most of us ever will. However, you are going about it wrong, and the more you attack them for it, the more these people will do it, since they are going for a reaction, which you are giving them.

No, she is a she, period.

I just go with whatever the person prefers. Takes no effort on my part and is part of being basically polite, and in this case respectful.

I can be polite without accepting falsehoods.

I wish men realized that when they go on the attack against either a gay or transgender, to an awful lot of people, they make themselves look like they doubt their own sexuality.

"Sometimes people are threatened by gays and lesbians because they are fearing their own impulses, in a sense they 'doth protest too much,'" Ryan told LiveScience. "In addition, it appears that sometimes those who would oppress others have been oppressed themselves, and we can have some compassion for them too, they may be unaccepting of others because they cannot be accepting of themselves."

You assume it is not deliberate and ideological.

Took a lot of courage for an ex-seal to make this disclosure about a very private and personal decision. As for some of the other comments, I refer to transgender individuals by the pronoun they prefer. In this case "she", since that is quite obviously how she identifies herself.

You know what bugs me, really? I'm supposed to accept people for who they are, but when it comes to this topic everyone wants me to accept people for who they are not.

It has nothing to do with my ideology, but with facts. A man is a man and can never not be a man. Facts are just bothering people in this debate for some reason.

You would be surprised to see how often it actually works to the extent that people, when faced with an individual that blurs gender categories or switches, leads society to actually wonder which sex they "truly" are. So, in that sense, yes, you can change your sex.

I don't even..

You can change your gender due to it being a word defined by society, but you can not change your sex since it is defined by genetics.

Please do not think you can just mindlessly blend the two together and I won't notice.

They can change as much as possible, leading to a new identity. You had trouble at that starting point.

You live in an age when the blurring is more possible than in centuries past. Gender analysis has moved beyond bi-polar realities.
