Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181, 607]

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

She wrote a frickin' biography. It appears that it didn't "just happen"...

Lighten up, Francis. Didn't know she'd written a book. I saw her on the Today Show the other day, and didn't want to read an entire 50 page thread.

Maybe she :: wrote the book :: to empower others who might want to make the change. She knew she was going to get **** for it, but sometimes people do things for altruistic reasons.

I didn't mean to be harsh towards you, but it is also a possibility it was done to sell books...

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

I'm guessing the dude is going to off himself if he doesn't get it done right now! Seriously, if that is his mindset there is no doubt he does have problems.

Im not sure exactly what her age was when she started transition but knowing she spent 20 years in the military she had to be close to 40. How long do you want her to wait? To be honest I dont know how people manage to deal with it that for 40 years.

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

Okay, there's something wrong with you on this topic, Chris. I liked a post because most of it spoke to me. If you can't carry on a sensible conversation on this topic and understand that maybe, just maybe, you aren't looking at it as you would if it really happened to you and your family? Fine. And it's K. Not Kay.

How do you figure? You are just being dishonest. Continue on.

Of course I'm looking at it as if it really happened to me. WTF? I like kay better. Kay?

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

Let me try a different approach:

I'm in my mid 20s and my mother is - as one would expect - a woman. She has been - as one would also expect - a woman for my entire life. If she told me today that she were a man and that she was going to transition, I cannot imagine thinking of myself as the victim in that story. I would be confused and it would take a while for me to wrap my head around it, but ultimately I would support my mom because she is my mother. She's taken care of me (still does and always will no matter how old I get). She loves me. She's my ****ing mother. The idea that I would make her transition about ME is sickening. I imagine most people - barring those with horrible parents - feel that way. Wouldn't you? If someone you loved to death said that they had been struggling with this their entire lives, would you make it about you or would you support them?

Look dude, your children come FIRST when you have children. What you want gets put on the back burner until your children are grown.

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

Why do you think the SEAL felt it necessary to take this public rather than handling the matter privately?

Just another way to put his family through hell I guess.

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

You need someone to tell you that gay people can have children? Wow. Can't really say I'm surprised, though.

Poor reading comprehension, dude. Read what I wrote.

K then. ;)

Or to help others and put another dent in stereotypes?

BTW, any evidence his family is in hell?

Exactly. His family will survive, and probably respect him more for being true to himself. Parents have to **** on kids pretty bad to make them not love them anymore.

Red herring. Answer the question please.

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

Well shes writing a book about her experiences and did an interview with Anderson Cooper so she probably doesnt care too much about her privacy.

Could've been a choice after it had already become public.

I did. You seem to think parents would be "disappointed" in homosexual children as they can't have grandchildren when, in fact, they do and can.

Possibly but it just went public not too long ago and as far as I know her book is pretty much completed so probably not likely. Either way I dont see why it matters. If she wants to have this public then good for her. If you ask me its a good thing.

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

You could be wrong, depending on how it was done. After all, I you love the person and not trappings, you would try to understand, wouldn't you?

I'm just being honest on who I was as a little kid and how I thought of things at the time. I really don't think I would have tried to understand the situation, sorry.

You loved your father, right? But not enough to try? Not even try?

What are you talking about? I didn't say I wouldn't have still loved him. I'm just saying it would have affected me negatively as a little kid.

I imagine the views of a 20 year old adult are going to be different than a 10 year old or even a teenager.

Follow me. You still him. So, you listen, consider, try. Frankly, you might have done much better than you think.

Re: Transgender Navy SEAL 'Warrior Princess' Comes Out[W:181]

All this tooth-gnashing about this SEAL's family, and what a selfish jerk he is to go for his dream after 40 years of living a lie is getting on my last nerve.

First, one of you "family is the victim" posters, please enlighten me as to how many children she has and what their ages are. I suggest that because in her book she has stated that she basically lived her life asexually, and kept this secret deep inside. That means that if she had any sexual encounters whatsoever, they were rare and in her first 20 years of life, not her last 20 years of time. There is no mention of any former wives or girlfriends, let alone children.

If you are going to screech about what a selfish asshole someone is because of the trauma they are causing their children, shouldn't you at least take the time to... you know... find out if they actually have any children in the first place?

Good lord. The ignorant outrage in this thread is about to make me bust a blood vessel. This isn't rocket science. People have had deep feelings about having been born in the wrong body for hundreds if not thousands of years. Only now can science correct the problem so the brain chemistry recognizes the body it has always expected to see.

Yeah, YourStar is right. It's bigotry and intolerance, through and through.

Look, you don't know who I was as a small child and I do. It's really just that simple.

Picard and Riker both approve.
