Health care law's unpopularity reaches new highs

It's a law that primarily helps poor people and might cost the middle class a little more money in the short term. Of course it's going to be unpopular. Americans are, for the most part, pretty selfish people.

By definition that means the poor are also selfish, so you lost your moral high ground. I think the day you start to really be strictly reasonable in your argumentation, you'll no longer be a socialist either.

Which should be a big red flag. Clearly Congress is more interested in hiding things in massive bills that quickly voted on, rather than taking their time, debating, and getting things right the first time.

Maybe its a sign of the times, wherein there is a desire for instant gratification on all issues, problems, and actions. Slow and steady wins the race should be the path taken.

It may be wrong, but it's really not new.

Attached ??

It was the entire bill " that had to be passed before we know what was in it "

You realize if you have to lie and mislead to prove your argument you still have a crappy argument to return to.

And your Iraq desperation is absolutely irrelevent. Democrats in 1998, including Hillary and Bill Clinton knew he had WMD. So there shouldn't have been any surprise to anyone.

Do I need to post their quotes ?

If you don't know the errors in what you just said, there is probably little hope of educating you. :(

That's a flawed system then. A system that's designed to make it very difficult to get things implemented, and to undo, would mean that we should minimize what we use that system for. Likewise, if what's getting passed in that system are things they don't know about as its pass, nothing critical should ever be in there. Add the two together, and you'd have to wonder why we even try to use such a system for anything important.

Oh, I wouldn't talk the "talk" too seriously. They really knew. Maybe not how it would all play out, but it's foolish to t,honk they really had no idea.

What are you saying? They didn't understand a bill that said they would be invading another country? You should name a few names here.

I'm saying they all didn't actually read the NIE. They took the briefings as the gospel.

Your'e being deliberately misleading.

"Poor people" could qualify for assistance prior to this bill being forced on to the American public and the American economy.

It is going to cost middle class Americans ALLOT more money.

Look if you have to lie, mislead and purposely misinform to prove your case, you still have a crappy agenda to return to.

People were NEVER being selfish prior to ObamaCares passage, it's just another false narrative from those on the left. Easy to contradict.

Sorry, I'm not inclined to believe in leftist rhetoric and the Administrations full on lies and misrepresentations. If your'e susceptible to platitudes and bumper sticker slogans then that's your problem.

You haven't made one objective sensible argument that supports Obama-care. You feed us the stale talking points and then ignore the obvious malfeasance and the negative impact this terrible destructive law has had on this Country over the last 4.5 years and will have on this Country in the near future.

Your arguments over Single payer are even worse and you haven't once described a practical feasible way to fund single payer in a Country with a population close to 350 million and a wide open Southern Border.

Your "education" is indoctrination and nothing else, your blind allegiance to a corrupt ideology isn't excuse enough to subject free Americans to a bankrupt and devolved simile to a Western European style of Government.

So you have no "education " to offer me, as I can see your rebuts, your excuses and your justifications for the destruction of this Countries economy and the largest Government take over of private industry in our History a mile away.

Keep them to yourself or better yet, post them publicly so anyone with a lick of common sense can see the best of what the left wing has to offer when it comes to defending Obama's destructive policies. Trust me, it's not much.

Yep, says the partisan spouting the party line. :lamo:funny

Dozens of lawmakers and aides are so afraid that their health insurance premiums will skyrocket next year thanks to Obamacare that they are thinking about retiring early or just quitting.

The fear: Government-subsidized premiums will disappear at the end of the year under a provision in the health care law that nudges aides and lawmakers onto the government health care exchanges, which could make their benefits exorbitantly expensive.

Democratic and Republican leaders are taking the issue seriously, but first they need more specifics from the Office of Personnel Management on how the new rule should take effect — a decision that Capitol Hill sources expect by fall, at the latest. The administration has clammed up in advance of a ruling, sources on both sides of the aisle said.

If the issue isn’t resolved, and massive numbers of lawmakers and aides bolt, many on Capitol Hill fear it could lead to a brain drain just as Congress tackles a slew of weighty issues — like fights over the Tax Code and immigration reform. Republican and Democratic lawmakers said the chatter about retiring now, to remain on the current health care plan, is constant.

Rep. John Larson, a Connecticut Democrat in leadership when the law passed, said he thinks the problem will be resolved. “If not, I think we should begin an immediate amicus brief to say, ‘Listen this is simply not fair to these employees,’” Larson told POLITICO. “They are federal employees.”

House Democratic leadership says the issue must be resolved.

It could be politically difficult to change this provision. The provision was put in the bill in the first place on the theory that if Congress was going to make the country live under the provisions of Obamacare, the members and staff should have to as well.

Several lawmakers said departures could run the gamut from low-level staff to legislative aides, to senior aides and lawmakers. Capitol Hill is an attractive workplace for politically ambitious college graduates, but a core of Capitol Hill aides stick around for decades, serving as institutional knowledge, and earning prized retirement packages.

More than a dozen senior aides interviewed by POLITICO about the issue declined to be named out of fear for future job prospects. The problem is most acutely felt at the staff level, where aides make between $35,000 and roughly $170,000 and budgetary problems have all but stopped pay increases and bonuses. Lawmakers have questioned leadership aides about the future of their health care.

“Between the constant uncertainty surrounding sequestration, and the likelihood aides will soon be paying for the subsidy portion of their health care coverage, congressional office budgets are being squeezed once again, and it’s causing a lot of concern amongst chiefs of staff regarding how to best handle the situation,” said one chief of staff to a senior Democratic member of the House. “Do we give raises to junior level aides so they can afford to pay for their higher health care costs, and if so, where do we find the funds to do so? Additionally, leadership has been relatively silent in terms of providing guidance to offices, which is frustrating.”

I'm saying they all didn't actually read the NIE. They took the briefings as the gospel.

Who is they? Haven't you any names here or is just another wildly flung accusation which carries no proof or evidence whatsoever?

Perhaps you are referring to the bumbling John Kerry, who voted for the war before he voted against it. Whatever your excuse, it seems clear enough that you are throwing out this unsubstantiated accusations in order to give support to the hapless Barrack Obama and his hear no evil, see no evil followers.

I they the they refers quite specifically to congress on the whole. This doesn't seem to be too difficult or shocking. You may find a person or three who didn't, but that is meaningless. I convinced most knew exactly what they were voting for.

And while you use a nice sound bite for Kerry, it is also a dishonest one. Any honest person who read what he said before his vote on Iraq knows he stated clearly before voting he would oppose action taken outside of the UN. Partisans are all too often dishonest with these things and rely on sound bites over actual content.

Thank G-d Democratic politicians are so much wiser and moral than the rest of us!

How often has something attached to a bill not been seen? It is actually quite common. Just as many didn't read the NIE before Iraq, they often just get the gist of it and not a full reading.

How long before the final vote was the text of the bill made public?

Sadly it is certainly true the misinformation is doing better in reaching the public than Obama's arguments in favor of it. I think these polls show that.

Yeah, John Boehner stole The Bully Pulpit!

Are you saying he's the author of misinformation, and thus the lair?

I'm saying that after nearly four years of O possessing The Bully Pulpit, constantly claiming that the public hates the scheme due to "misinformation" is just totally lame. The public hates the scheme because they understand it all too well, Democratic spin notwithstanding.

BS, 42% don't even know it is the law.

It would be if it wasn't the truth. Misinformation is very, very hard to get around. Nothing is harder than to educate someone on something he THINKS he knows.
