Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily [W:452]

"Democracy" is when you sic the IRS on your political opponents ?

Really ?

Sure Romney wasn't my first choice but had he been elected we wouldn't be solely depending on our FED to prop up the entird economy by now.

Because....he knew at least, what he was doing.

Trying to blame Bush for Obama's fascism is pathetic and desperate

Anyone defending Obama and still blame Bush here is defending Obama vastly expanding this program to create a domestic police state. The Government doesn't have a right to do this. Period. The problem is both Bush and Obama. They stand for Big Government. This is what happens when you hand your power over to Big Government. The people in charge abuse their power. It's just human nature. The founders understood this which is why The Constitution is not a document that grants rights. It's a document that limits the power of Government.

If you're blaming Bush you are part of the problem. Not the solution.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Yeah, and if you're doing nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about. As for the 4th Amendment and this situation, you are absolutely wrong. The government CAN track WHO you call/dial if they need to WITHOUT a warrant. SCOTUS has already ruled on that.

In Smith v. Maryland , the Supreme Court held that there’s no reasonable expectation of privacy, and thus no Fourth Amendment protection, for the phone numbers people dial (as distinct from the content of the call), because the number dialed is information you voluntarily share with the phone company to complete the call and for billing purposes.

But that's not all they're recording. More importantly is that you come across as a civil rights hater. What's up with that?

Umm, since the poll question doesn't ask about the Patriot Act, and since the question dealt with bush*'s
WARRANTLESS spying on americans, your post is the disingenuous one.

Meh, it's the same thing. Obama being judged retroactively by the lefts perceptions of Bush.

A huge generic broadbrush that tosses out specifics as irrelevancies and wants everyone to focus only on the aspects that make Conservatives look like hypocrites.

This is Obama's baby, ( he could have stopped it ) and given his appointments and the latest on the IRS targeting, I don't think anyone believes he's doing this in the interest of National Security.

He's doing it to punish his " enemies ".

It's J.Edgar Hoover on steroids with a good mix of Jimmy Carter all over again.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

That is what the Nazis said.

Or, better yet, that was how Conservatives sold America on the Patriot Act........................

Show me. I know I never said that.

First, No, that is all they're recording. Second, a "civil rights hater."??? And who enforces civil rights law? Who protects the civil rights of citizens? Who prosecutes people who violate the civil rights of people?? The government IS THE PEOPLE! That's what our constitution sets out - A government "of the people, by the people, and for the people." I actually suspect the anti-government type to be more of a civil rights hater. These types despise government because the government steps in to protect the rights of minorities.

Right again Bronson. They defend it and then point to Bush's creation of the Patriot Act as a violation of our civil liberties.

Hell, I was on Political forums throughout his Presidency. The Libs wanted him in jail over the Patriot Act.

Lol...another misinformed or just full on uninformed Lib throws down the Nazi Gauntlet to describe Conservatives.

I bet your total amount of knowledge on the Fourth Reich could fit on the back of a bussiness card.....in crayon.

It would go something like this .." the nazis wer bad "...

But nevermind, your the poster that said Tea Partiers should have been rounded up. Or were lucky there weren't rounded up.

Maybe you DO know a little more about the Nazi's than I thought you did.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Show me. I know I never said that.

I remember the holier than thou selfpredicting themselves to hold the presidency for the next 50 years Conservatives pooh-poohing any criticism of the Patriot Act with just those sentiments................Unfortunately for Conservatives, humans have this thing called a memory.........................

What promise can you or anyone make that the information gathered by the NSA will only be used for national security? Its a promise no one can make. Thats the problem, with the recent history of this administration using the powers of the government to silence opposing voices. who can make me a promise that this administration wont use the information gathered by the NSA to do the same?

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Proven wrong about the law you resort to a purely ad hominem attack. I'll take that as an admission you lost the argument. Stay out of trouble.

At least one person with intimate knowledge disagrees with you.

Then show us. It's been explained here several times under what conditions it was deemed acceptable to wiretap through the FISA court.

this administration has more in common with Nazi Germany then any other administration

study how Hitler came to and stayed in power and the tactics he used to do so the similarities are uncanny

It looks to me like the govt is protecting any rights in this case, and you support it.

Which was exactly what the Cons were planning till they got blown away in an election their handlers were telling them was a slam dunk......................

I really can't "show" you my memories, but , like I said, Cons have this problem with the past, memories, et al..................If only reality was as plastic as Cons wished..........................

So then you must be outraged by what the Obama Admin is doing now, right?

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

On one level, yes, but I'd already excepted the fact that America was doomed when it bought Anita Bryant's explanation for her car accident.........................

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

The Patriot Act, which authorizes the monitoring, has been around for 12 years and the program itself has actually been around seven months longer than that. It was widely reported on 7 years ago. Interesting that Republicans are suddenly outraged...12 years and 7 months later.

Are only Republicans outraged? Is it okay to have not been paying attention until now? Is it okay to have grudgingly accepted the first steps on this slippery slope only to wake up now thinking, "OMG"?

What I mean is that whatever has gone on in the past, what we're talking about now is happening now. It's no good to dismiss all these scandals as Republican partisanship; it's simplistic, naive, and partisan to do so.

I'm not saying that I see this as any more than a forlorn hope, but our country needs to come together, and our elected reps, irrespective of party, need to work together. The IRS must be straightened out and its Constitutional boundaries made clear. We, the people, need to get to work. What's happening now is horrific. And indefensible, no matter "who's on first."

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Just perusing their list of articles nothing surprised me, just the usual Rightie spew about politics, etc., then , boom, a piece about the "fallacious" claim by gay people that they were born that "way"..................I smelled the reeking stench of the JudeoChristian religious agenda......................

And I am sure you looked at it with objective eyes, and such.... Ahyhoo, this isn't about sources, this is about the NSA, do you have anything disputing what was offered? I am assuming no.
