Inadvertent collection happens all the time. If it goes over a certain amount of time, they file a report, destroy the info, and move on. If it doesn't, they just destroy it and move on.

Well of course we have the government we have. Our elected officials have been forcing their style of government upon us since the process began.

What I find so interesting depressing is that so many citizens condone and support government mischief. They rationalize it, and then wonder when the cumulative effects leads to these sorts of things.

Responsible for the safety of others? Do you mean like a bus driver is responsible for the safety of his passengers? Or a school teacher responsible for the safety of her students, or a physician responsible for the safety of his patients while under his care?

I consider "normal things", as you use the term, to mean legal things. I consider "mischief" to mean "illegal" things, notwithstanding the differences between petty crimes and serious crimes.

I don't know anything about the IRS. I know about intel work.

Besides, the Tea Party is explicitly against taxes- no surprise the tax agency would **** with them. Is there a group likewise against intelligence collection? If so, they'll be looked at more, regardless of politics.

The "authority" being the law. Assuming, of course, that one is operating under the rule of law.

But if by "authority" you mean some elected or appointed official, then not so much. Only if that person is acting in accordance with legal authority.

Laws can change. They can be interpreted in ways you might not like.

I don't give a **** about laws too much myself, anyway, so it doesn't really matter much to me. But they're not monolithic things.

The President is required to use all methods at his disposal to protect us from attack. If he decided not to use this surveillance and we were attacked who would be to blame?
