The Conference Board, an industry group, said its index of consumer attitudes jumped to 76.2 from an upwardly revised 69 in April, topping economists' expectations for 71. It was the best level since February 2008.

More bad news for Republicans but GREAT news for the rest of us. Consumer spending makes up 75% of our economy.

Why would this be bad news for Republicans? All you folks on the left have been complaining about how Republicans have stood in the way of legislation that would get things moving. If Republicans blocked everything, how can the left take credit?

It is not bad news for republicans at all. The more you spend, the happier the top 1% are as they pocket your money. The rich are getting richer thanks to President Obama. Eventually you will figure out the game is rigged, but keep on thinking you're making a difference voting for the dems. Obamacare is going to create a ton of happy millionaires.

Because the Dems blocked a lot too. If Republicans had their way we would be deep in another recession right now. That is what they do.

The game is rigged by 35 years of supply side Reaganomics but at least we are not being subject to more recessions that move the goal posts even further away. That burns you up I know.

But that isn't even close to reality. Republicans have been accused of standing in the way of everything. Remember, the left has taken a position of being blameless for a lack of getting anything done, so it's pretty tough to take credit today for this news your reporting.

Sorry, but your logic is fatally flawed.

No it wasn't rigged. But I know it's critical to agree with the training.

The House got plenty "done" and none of it became law because of Dems. The Ryan budget would have put us into a recession.
So the economy is recovering INSPITE of the Republicans efforts to put it back in the crapper.
So yes, I can give the Dems credit for that.

Doesn't bother me at all. Reagan was an idiot; Obama is an idiot; You are, well, let's say naive, thinking you are not being lead around by the DNC which is being lead around by the nose by Wall Street just as readily as the GOP is. It is the circus part of the bread and circuses. As long as you enjoy the show and do not aspire to more, that is your right.

So the Democrats can hang their hats on little to nothing, yet can be proud of the impact that has had on the economy.

You know, I'm thinking I can go along with that.

Maybe it shows the success of the dreaded SEQUESTER .
Or maybe folks are comforted by Obama's incredibly sinking approval ratings.
Or maybe they're buoyed by the prospect of the Senate changing hands next year.
Or maybe they simply don't get the connection between Bernanke printing money and the Stock Market boom ... which will reverse when he stops.

You mean Obama's idea for the sequester was a good one? I doubt it has helped our economy but at least it is not killing it off.

Why would it bother Republicans? We're the ones buying all the cool new stuff.

You can do that after you layoff a bunch of lazy Democrats and get your margins in order.

The Dems got there way and the economy is still in the crapper.

This is good news for the Dems, because they don't look AS bad, now.

This is in spite of Obama's policies and people know he can'trun for office again, so of course consumer confidence is going up.

Nope. In spite of Republican efforts to hamper recovery. Because I said so. Neener.

It wasn't the Republicans that blocked the pipeline, nor was it the Republicans that shutdown offshore drilling. It wasn't the Republicans that tried to shut down drilling in west Texas because of some stupid lizard. It wasn't the Republicans that passed Obamacare.

Nice try, though.

The fact that Dems know how to grow the economy is why they got majorities in 5 out of the last 6 Presidential elections so that works for me too. Don't underestimate the damage done to Republicans by their abysmal record on the economy.

One thing I certainly won't underestimate is the level of desperation echoed by many Dems today...

This thread went partisan from post one. Should be a fun show.

I think it is great people are spending money. Now if we only had a consumption tax.

So we could put a damper on spending? You tax things you want less of.

Why would this be bad news for Republicans? If more consumer confidence gets more Democrats off the dole, why would Republicans be upset?

See, two can play that silly game.

The reality of Obama's economy is it is a rotten hollowed out facade.

It's a testament to the ignorance and desperation of your average Democrat.

Hell, what did Bernake say just a couple of weekd ago ?

The reality is for our Fed to be doing what their doing, our economy has to be on life support.

Maybe it has little or nothing to do with our fearless leaders and more to do with the natural, normal economic recovery that tends to happen after bad times pass. Historically speaking, we could have elected satan and be in a slow, healthy, orderly recovery by now.
