Wife of truck driver in bridge collapse says husband has 'impeccable' record

AP-bridge_w500.jpg

Look at any map and you'll see those other two bridges are to the east of this one. All reports have the drive going south.
That top most bridge in your pic is a rail line.

How many times did that bridge get hit before he got there? There's no way he was the first.
I'm not Googling the bridge's impact history. I'll leave that for you to do for yourself.

Yes, your point?

Did you not understand my point?

The bottom (closest) bridge is the one struck. If you look at google maps, or any other map, you will see those other two bridges are to the east of the one that has the collapsed section. This means, the collapsed part of the four sections is the north most section. the truck, since he was traveling south, it means the first section he encountered is the one he struck.

Get my point now?

I am aware the bridge was classified as "structurally deficient", yes.

But not because of lack of maintenance. It was because of design.

That's not a point, that's common knowledge. Were you not participating in this thread 3-4 days ago when we went over this? We even posted a vid showing the truck striking the bridge.

My God. Are you purposely being an A-Hole, trying to get someone to blow up at you?

Follow what I sad after replying to dirtpoorchris' post #200. I was explaining his take was wrong, and why. Then you jump in, and I think I have to explain it again.

What was you point of the rail line?

WOW! They said it would take over a year.
Even my Guard engineer unit (government bureaucracy) could have bridged that gap doing what we did in Afghanistan in under a month. If we were in theater all it would take is an op-order for the A.O. commander and pieces would start moving.

Of course, being back in the States....more government = more red tape and higher cost.

I did read that the Fed is picking up 90% of the bill for the temp fix and the permanent repair. http://www.kgw.com/news/Temporary-bridges-planned-for-fallen-I-5-209012141.html That to me proves the driver isn't nearly as at fault as some on this thread would like to assert.

Dude could have always just stopped though if it was a right of way problem. When cars go into a 1 car each way tunnel they dont rush in at the last second. You stop traffic if you have to and never pass or even think about right of way issues. 1 lane dedicated to this guy is essentially a tunnel. He should have been in the proper lane a mile ahead of time at least.

Now that I can agree with, however that would again lead back to the rear pilot car not doing their job and running blocker...With that load the driver can not see to just slide over, that's why there is a pilot car.

Are we prepared to have more bridges collapse in the coming decade in exchange for bloated Federal projects, corporate handouts, and endless wars?

Apparently the answer to that is yes. Instead of work projects to restore infrastructure during the economic collapse, we spent all our money making bankers and wall street execs richer. All for the glory of the corporate entity.

I don't see how any part of the permit or permitting process could ever place responsibility of bridge maintenance on the driver.
It wasnt maintenance it was faulty design.
Oh, ok, my bad: I don't see how any part of the permit or permitting process could ever place responsibility of bridge design on the driver.

Now that's what I was just thinking, is that what this thread needs is an anti corporate rant....

No, but that wasn't exactly an anti corporate rant.

We should have let them fail. All I have to say in this thread about it.

Can't disagree with you there LoP....I suspect there is probably much we do agree on, it is just this where we seem to have a healthy disagreement. :2wave:

Well, just heard on the news today, the temporary bridge span is paved, and final inspection will have it open soon. Yesterday's article linked in pic:

Anyone interested?

After he hit the bridge his record was no longer impeccable. He looks pretty peccable now.
