Wife of truck driver in bridge collapse says husband has 'impeccable' record

It's divided by a Jersey Barrier and each side has 2 lanes. Yes, they can yield. The center of the bridge is more than high enough for the truck to pass. Only when it was forced to move to the right was there a problem.

The truck driver who hit the bridge should have stayed in the center lane. He will be paying a price for what happened to that bridge, because he was the guy who caused it to happen.

Wait and see how this works out in court.

Wife of truck driver in bridge collapse says husband has 'impeccable' record | CTV News

I'm glad that everyone got out okay. I understand that a truck carrying steel could cause a bridge collapse, but this accident points to the issue of aging infrastructure. Our Federal and State governments are so focused on war or cutting back public services that we are now seeing the results.

Are we prepared to have more bridges collapse in the coming decade in exchange for bloated Federal projects, corporate handouts, and endless wars?

A brand new bridge could collapse if the structure was compromise, as happened here.

The truck driver HAD an impeccable record, because he screwed the pooch on this one.

It is absurd to blame the bridge collapse on a truck driver for accidently hitting a bridge girder.

No it's not! Truck drivers get blamed for hitting bridges with overheight loads all the time. This is another one of those times.

1) He should have known exactly how tall he was.

2) He should have known if he could clear the bridge, before he crossed it.

Obviously, he did neither.

He should have chosen a different route.

He's screwed. His CSA score is going to go through the roof and no one will be able to hire him, thanks to government regulation of the trucking industry.

The insurance companies will settle long before then. They'll strike a deal with the city in a way that let's Obama go in-front of the media and justify massive spending on infrastructure.

Sounds great to me.

That will put a lot of people to work and make it almost impossible for the GOP to put anyone in the White House.

The man has my sympathy.

He made a mistake and he's going to pay a heavy price.

Oh, my heart goes out to him. But, he's SOL. The gubmint is going to burn his ass over this one.

No, they won't. The trucking company is going to foot the bill on this one. Companies that insure trucking companies have clauses against this sort of stuff.

Well now we're all just speculating.

That's what I figure.

I wonder if the driver's individual insurance will have to pay anything?

Well now we're all just speculating.

I've been driving trucks for 13 years. I've seen dudes hit bridges. I'm not speculating.

The insurance companies are going to throw their hands up and say, "good luck, babe!".

Maybe he can get a job teaching truck drivers what not to do.

forgive me, but if a truck hits a bridge, should that bridge come down? I'd like to think that it takes more than that to bring down a bridge ...

The truck was supposed to drive down the center of the bridge. An oncoming truck failed to give the right-of-way and forced the heavy truck to move to the side. That's when the load collided with the structure.
The video I saw doesn't seem to confirm that. Though admittedly it's grainy, it doesn't appear to show any oncoming truck forcing him over.

Do you happen to have a link to this video? Is it some kind of dash-cam?

That's why I believe there will be a deal worked out. Trucks hit bridges all the time, but those bridges don't then collapse.

Well, in this case the section of bridge did come down. Does that tell you anything?

A lot of us would like to think a lot of things, but sometimes reality limits our speculation.

Yep, this is kind of a rare occurrence, eh?

Prove it.

I'm not giving you my DL#...lol

Do we know that he had a choice?

Yes, he did. He could have chosen another route, or refused to move the load, or had the load dismantled so that it wasn't as tall.
