Many gays fit that "myth", but not all and those others can't be leaders no matter how manly they are. And some straight men (like the one I described earlier) fit the description of being overly feminine/not manly. If it were all about the appearance of being a positive or negative male role model, then you/she would have a point. But one of the main things that shows this isn't the real reason is the very fact that women (a good amount in fact) are scout leaders. They are not going to be "good male role models" when they aren't even men.
But isn't this one of the reasons the BSA exists to begin with, to try to teach boys not to act like assholes to each other?
kids still make fun of these people.
Just an FYI, kids can be real dicks
While not scientifically proven, the widely accepted conventional wisdom is that the increasing acceptance of homosexuals has been heavily influenced by greater exposure to homosexuals.
Might have something to do with how conservatives treat homosexuals. There's nothing about being queer that intrinsically makes a man liberal.
That's why Neil Patrick Harris is so hated, right?
No, it's not.
So everyone gay is ultra liberal and conservatives ****ting on them, for example until today the BSA, has nothing to do with that? Kids aren't born with a political lean.

without getting into a debate on what the boy scouts is about, what you want to teach children, and what they actually do, are two different things. Just consider all the bullying horror stories that are almost unanimously represented in accounts of the whole English prep-school experiance. Which was much more structured than a weekly scout meeting
Oh yes it is, citizenship and good conduct are a hallmark of the Scout troops I visited, that doesn't mean there isn't horseplay but not like in any other venue. Scouts should teach character and not every child wants to be subjected to the code of conduct a Scout is taught.

But there is a huge difference between asshole and horseplay. Scouts should know the difference even if many adults don't...
Those who don't please google the Scout law.... eace
I'm not sure I would associate him with tweens and highschoolers
I think most kids would say, "who the heck is Neil Patrick Harris, move away, your blocking the screen!"
maybe as contributing to some long term trend in over all social perceptions. But until then, if kids find it "different" it's like lord of the flies for the little bastards.
LOL, let's face it, kids can be horribly cruel to each other.
English prep school is much closer to high school than the boy scouts. Boy scouts isn't compulsory, doesn't last for long hours every day, and even when they are together for extended periods of time, most of that time is taken up by learning activities or duties/chores. Children do much better being respectful of each other for short periods of time, especially when much of that time is spent doing something, vice long school days with in between periods and a lot of down time.
Nobody's having "sexuality discussions" in the Boy Scouts. They are simply accepting kids no matter their sexuality. The gay witch hunts of the past were discussing sexuality.
No

How did they know who the gay kids were if they weren't discussing their sexuality?
Buddy, lot's of teens watch HIMYM. Lot's watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer with willow and her lesbian lover.
FunFact: The actress who plays Willow in Buffy is the same on who plays Lily in HIMYM.
Kids are the group with the highest level of acceptance of homosexuals.
On this issue, it's adults, particularly the older adults, who are being cruel
Everyone I was in the scouts with went to the same schools and lived in the same neighborhoods.
