Boy Scouts vote to welcome gay members

Really? What basis do you have for this claim? Sure, I think we might have a case or two, bust just how often do you think this is going to happen?

It's cute when conservatives pretend to know what I believe.

There are a few things premature at this point.

Progressives are all the same.... I do know what you believe. Do you think I was born conservative?

When I was in my late teens and early 20's I was a progressivebot - we all agreed on everything... The whole "we all agree in cohesion" nonsense started to set bells off in my head.. It doesn't for you?

When it comes to politics, party policies and law you are all the same...

Progressives are all the same....

That's kind of sterotpyical, and somewhat irrelevant considering my lean says "Liberal", not "Progressive"

I do know what you believe.

Go ahead and tell me everything you think I believe. Go on. I'll wait.

Do you think I was born conservative?

Perhaps. People are born mentally handicapped all the time.

I bet more than bells went off in your head. Again, why are you telling me this?

When it comes to politics, party policies and law you are all the same...

Again, that's pretty stereotypical. You really should rethink the topic of this thread.

I don't need to tell you about you because I was you, and even if I psychoanalyzed you perfectly you would deny it because even YOU don't know who you are. Most progressives are nothing but personas IMO. You're collectivist thinkers not individual thinkers. In short - you want "kick it" with your gangs ideas and are willing to abandon your own to "fit in."

Typical teenage stuff.

I don't need to tell you about you because I was you,

Wow, really? That's so cool! Quick, what was the name of my first date?

and even if I psychoanalyzed you perfectly you would deny it because even YOU don't know who you are.

Huh. That seems a bit unusual. I think I would know myself better than some random jackoff on the internet.

Most progressives are nothing but personas IMO.

Huh. What an interesting claim. Your source?

You're collectivist thinkers not individual thinkers.

We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile!

In short - you want "kick it" with your gangs ideas and are willing to abandon your own to "fit in."

I hang with the cool kids.

Typical teenage stuff.

I can't hear you over the sound of my punk rock.

Really? 56 pages of this gay=good, gay=bad? With so much going on in the country, and world, THIS is what leads the forum discussion?

Hey I enjoy a good gay=good/bad banter every once in a while, but I can't help but feel sad about 56 pages of pure nonsense.

My take is that parents will weigh the risks (if any) of enrolling their children into the Scouts, read the guidelines carefully, and then do what they must do. For me, I can't help but think to myself that young gay kids deserve to participate in whatever they would like without the adult world interfering in the process, insofar as the adult intervention is ideological, or politically motivated. If there are serious, materially harmful reasons to keep the gay=away, then put up or shut up. I've seen the arguments from both sides, and I acknowledge them as valid from both points of view, albeit somewhat complex, and difficult to assign to any one individual. For me, kids below the age of sexual awareness should be allowed to participate, but kids 12, 13, 14 should not be allowed to "bunk" with each other, JUST LIKE most parents wouldn't allow or even think to allow them to bunk with kids of the same age and opposite sex. Folks that say gay boys aren't interested in straight boys are full of ****, and serve to marginalize their contribution to the argument. Of course they are, why wouldn't they be?

I also agree that keeping gay scout masters out is also a wise cautionary move.

Tim-

The same basis you have, but at a much more honest & realistic level. I think it's going to happen a lot. It has to. Hormones are raging at that age, and now gay boys have access.

It's cute when conservatives pretend to know what I believe.
It's even cuter when liberals sugar coat their mendacities. ;)

There are a few things premature at this point.
When there shouldn't be any to begin with. What does being openly gay have to do with the Boy Scouts, anyways?

The same basis you have,

Oh?

but at a much more honest & realistic level.

Yeah, not so much.

I think it's going to happen a lot. It has to.

Because you want it to happen so you can prove some kind of a point, right?

Hormones are raging at that age, and now gay boys have access.

Gay boys already have access. This has nothing to do with making a move, it's about not having to hide who you are.

It's even cuter when liberals sugar coat their mendacities. ;)

I prefer Icing.

Not a lot, but I was told as a Scout to be tolerant of other people's differences. There was no basis for this ban.

I believe I previously stated this but I will say it again:

The BSA are just alienating troops/packs with their position here considering 70% of their packs are organized through the church.

We're now fractured in politics and that isn't enough for progressives - now we must be fractured in independent programs for children via political correctness.

Also, in what universe does sexuality have ABSOLUTELY anything to do with being a boyscout?

It has nothing to do with sexuality - yet this is an issue?

It seems the PC "gay rights" crowed is obsessed ****ING REALLY OBSESSED with sexualizing everything and everything.

Fine BSA will lose 70% of its troop membership..

Thanks for alienating yourselves gays - yet again.

you have it backwards, it will be the people that refuse to participate because of this that will be alienating themselves

and yes you nailed it since sexuality has nothgin to do with the boy scouts it was the perfect move to let them in because its not an issue.

It will only be an issue to those now that make it one.

BBC News - Boy Scouts of America votes to ease ban on gay members

Good for the Scouts.

And I eagerly await the freakishly hateful statements that will inevitably come from people like the Family Research Council.

Good.

But upon reading the title of the article I had the thought in my head that they let the MEMBERS vote . . . that's not what happened - but honestly - why didn't they ever bother and just leave it up to the long-term participants: the parents and scouts themselves?

It doesn't matter - but it made me wonder.

Thanks for proving my point.....

This is what a defeated man limping away from an argument with his tail between his legs looks like. You got called out for misrepresenting his argument and instead chose to take one line of his post out of context and scoff derisively at him.

You know, it's funny, I've noticed that people who use "......" every other sentence tend to be pseudo-intellectual and shallow. "Oh, yeah, kid...... I've been around the block....... You know how cool I am because I take long pauses between sentences........" It's called an "ellipsis", buddy, and you use three periods... how do you get through high school without learning that?

It's really cute how you paint yourself as this 'learned intellectual' when you admit yourself that you've submitted to being a political sheep at points in your adult life, and your thought proccess is totally illogical and self-serving. You mark any progress for LGBT youth as "sexualizing" when it's not about that-- The only ones unnecessarily harassing children about their sexuality are the people who want to exclude LGBT youth. And you honestly believe that 70% of the boy scouts will leave the organization over this, because you project your views on to the views of all Christians, which is hilarious because you seem to think all Christians are as intolerant and petty as you are.

There is no way 70% of the organization will leave. It's still a Mormon-owned organization anyway and individual scout troops have been accepting gay members for years now. You are delusional if you think this old, hardy organization will crumble just because they don't discriminate any more.

1. yeah 2. uh-uh 3. sounds more like the pettiness of liberalism, to me. 4. openly gay boys didn't have access at campsites ..... until now. 5. you prefer any coating, actually.

I bet it does.

What? There were gay boys in the BSA before, just in the closet. If they were that desperate, you think the policy would've stopped them?

But 'getting access to each other' is exactly what is going to happen, as anyone with a brain should understand.
JUST LIKE most parents wouldn't allow or even think to allow them to bunk with kids of the same age and opposite sex.

How about to sleep over with friends?
