'Soldier beheaded' in Woolwich machete attack: latest

sweden:

The violent youth riots that spread across Stockholm’s suburbs this week seem at odds with the public perception of Sweden as one of the world’s most liberal and tolerant countries.

But the racially charged riots, which have taken place largely in poor immigrant communities, actually expose deep social divisions that have threatened Sweden for years. There is, essentially, the Sweden of legend — and then there are large, poor immigrant communities where unemployment is rampant, especially among young people, and political participation is down.

One key to understanding that community is grasping its size — according to Reuters, roughly 15 percent of Swedish residents are now foreign-born. As Malmö University’s Pieter Bevelander laid out in a 2010 paper, Sweden has always played host to a large immigrant population, largely from other Nordic countries. But immigration spiked in the early ’00s after an influx of asylum-seekers, thousands from eastern Europe and Iraq.

Five charts that help explain Sweden’s youth riots - WaPo

cbs' 60 minutes, last sunday i believe, did a piece about young male refugees from afghanistan in sweden and how tuff they're finding things in the land of the northern lights

sizable communities of teenage boys sleeping in tent cities in parks, eating out of garbage cans...

they regularly tell their folks back home that they're doing well, they're happy---they can't disappoint their moms and dads who sacrificed most of what they have just to get their boys out

i can't go back home, i will be killed, i will commit suicide before i go back home---is a sentiment commonly expressed

i am a hi school math teacher in northern california and in the last 10 years or so i have had a large number of muslim students, we have large emigre communities here in the bay area

they teach me so much about their homelands, pakistan, afghanistan, iran, lebanon, nigeria---i love to sound them out

i can't tell you how impressed i am with these young students (and their gorgeous families)---studious and responsible (but not overly so, they're still kids), fun loving and playful, able to take criticism, able to enjoy laughing at themselves, outgoing and friendly at the right time, quiet and respectful when such is called for, surrounded and accepted by friends of all races, fitting in successfully, healthy, they are generally some of my best students

but at a policy level...

absolutely, not all muslims are terrorists, far from it, but tragically the bad actors in the stories above all are

for the washington post to publish a 500 word story about racially charged riots and poor immigrant communities, 500 words and not one of them is "muslim..."

there is a politically correct denial of exactly what is underlying the sadness we are seeing so much of

there are reports out of sweden describing "vigilantes" patrolling the streets trying to protect their property, the kind of people who voted for marine le pen in france and the golden rain in greece...

the police are cracking down harder on these politically incorrect community organizers than they are on the gangs of youths who are setting fire to cars and churches

a decade of denial has brought us here, open street fighting between soccer clubs and skinheads on the one side and hopeless hordes of dispossessed and despairing islamic youth on the other

so much sadness, so much pain, cannot be addressed by burying ones head in sand

institutional refusal to see the obvious only exacerbates the excess

ten years after offering the open hand, the swedes, according to cbs, are now trying to kick the kids out

it was all very foreseeable, or should have been

unless clear sighted examination of the problems are begun and careful corrective actions are taken, the suffering will only multiply

Excellent post! It's interesting to read a first hand account of what you are seeing, while it's happening!

Good afternoon, Prof! :2wave:

ap today:

A French soldier was stabbed in the throat in a busy commercial district outside Paris on Saturday, and the government said it was trying to determine if there were any links with the bloody killing of a British soldier by suspected Islamic extremists.

French President Francois Hollande said the identity of the attacker, who escaped, was unknown and cautioned against jumping to conclusions about the assault on the uniformed soldier in the La Defense shopping area. The life of the 23-year-old soldier was not in danger, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

So far, so good! Took flowers to the cemetery today...lots of people there, even though it's unseasonably cold! We're supposed to get a low of 34 degrees tonight, so my furnace will probably kick on...again! You?

Good afternoon, Jack! :2wave:

Put the flag out but afterward devoted the day to running the dog and catching up on yard work rained out last weekend. Beautifully sunny but cool, 60's. Tonight 34 degrees for you?!? Yikes!

Yep, we had a heavy frost on everything this morning! Disastrous for plants, so I'll be covering them again tonight, wearing my winter coat, which is depressing this late in May. BozeMoj! ... .:sigh:

SW New York same thing. Checked the Cemetery and everyone still dead. At least they didn't freeze to death. My furnace kicked on and off all night long and some of this during daytime. I'm not anti Muslim, but there is definitely a need for our intelligence (oxymoron) agencies to get a better handle on the Muslims. Better policy? Better people? Better information! It is certainly past time to get better informants within the Muslim communities to point to potential jihadists or radicals.

You can of course pioint to an instance where I suggested that fundamentalist extremists under the guise of Allah represent all Muslims. Or do YOU see Islamic Fundamentalist terrorist and equate them to all Muslims? And for the record (something you keep missing) Newton Conencticut had absolutley NOTHING to do with Christianity while the two scumbags that chopped off the guys head SPECIFICALLY did it in the name of their religion.

What about the guy who killed the Sikhs, do his actions reflect upon Christianity?

You reacting as though 'this man' was an isolated incidence of Islamic violence. It is not. Islamic terrorism is happening every day and all over the world. This may have just been the first one you've heard of.

And Christian terrorism occurs on a daily basis as well.

Good evening, Dave Fagan. :2wave:

Once again I see I could use some help on sentence structure...and your tongue in cheek response was hilarious! :lamo:

We can reduce terrorist attacks against the United States by not committing terrorist attacks in the Muslim world.

Lets go back to the last part. Show me where I have condemned all Muslims. Once you can show that then you can try to divert attention from the actions of despicable terrorist scumbags.

Can you POSSIBLY be this dense? Have I EVER said it reflects on Muslims as a whole? What is...I dont know...pathetic...comical...whatever is how you trip over yourself when a fundamentalist extremist terrorist commits a despicable act to rush in and scream "yeah...but...the Christians! the Christians!" And I cant help but wonder...when the Islamofundamentalist terrorists kill homosexuals under the same guidance and teachings of the extremist fundamentalist leaders do you STILL trip over yourself to excuse, justify, divert, avoid...ANYTHING but face the absolute and undeniable reality that extremist fundamentalist terrorists have been and continue to kill innocent men women and children around the world?

No, I just point out that America does the same, on a much larger scale.

If you hate Obama then start a thread about how you hate Obama and his continued attacks where he has been slaughtering poor innocent people. This thread is about two individuals in ENGLAND that sawed a mans head off. And then...while you are doing that...reconcile your "but the evil US" with the bombings and murders throughout the middle east committed DAILY by extremist fundamentalist ****heads targeting Muslims.

I don't hate Obama, just pointing out the facts. He is a war criminal, just as the president before him was.

If this thread is about a beheading then so be it, only discuss the beheading itself. But the moment you try to extrapolate and make value judgments against Muslims in general or Islam, it's fair game to point out your hypocrisy.

And all you have to do is find anywhere that I had done that and you might have a point. And of course you don't exactly pass muster yourself, do you.

Stop pretending, you make it a point to mention their religion, every single time.

FYI - Salafi, Wahhabi, The Muslim Brotherhood, Hezbollah, Hamas (and Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades), Hizb ut-Tahrir, Al-Qaeda, Maghreb Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram...need more examples?

Ah and this:

Fallen.
