IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups[W:484,732]

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

no. when a question is asked of someone about information they would not be reasonably expected to possess, it is nothing other than a stupid question from an inept - republican - questioner
the ways and means hearings with the IRS exhibited that for all to see

The questions were for the most part exactly those that a senior civil servant would know would be asked, and for which he should have been prepared. He did enormous damage to his cause by being so unhelpful.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

As usual, you misunderstand. The questions were exploratory. The witness was asked, for the most part, questions to which he could have known the answers. The staffers will now treat him as hostile. It only gets worse from here.

Makes no difference. It doesn't matter if the witness "could have known the answers". What matters is if they *did* know the answer. If they didn't, then the only truthful answer is "I don't know"

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

The witness was evasive, and arrogant.
actually, miller was quite effective
his testimony demonstrated that the republicans are not competent enough to formulate questions needed to determine what was happening with the 501c4 applications

He did his cause and the administration much harm.
miller answered the questions superbly and demonstrated that as a career IRS civil servant he was untouchable by the republican questioners
notice how pissed the republicans congressmen were when they were unable to document a scandal via his testimony

As I posted previously, the staffers are digging in for combat.
that is clear
they know the republicans want to find some dirt on Obama
and they are not offering anything which hurts him
clearly, they are winning this battle

The members know there's blood, and they're ready too.
couldn't tell it by the results of their hearings
they are on the offensive
but now are left whining and licking their wounds

The witness performed terribly, and his side will pay.
miller so out-classed his republican questioners

Why did he do it? Probably to reduce his exposure to legal jeopardy.
no. he is being honorable
even tho he was not the republican appointed commissioner who was in command when this 501c4 problem developed and was left to fester, he recognizes that as the acting commissioner he should step down for the good of his federal agency
like i said, he is being honorable
something few of today's republicans would recognize

NBC: Why Did IRS Mislead Congress For An Entire Year? | RealClearPolitics

mr miller, why did you testify to congress 4 times that no special treatment was accorded tea party apps when tigta concludes unequivocally that there was?

miller: well, congressman, i'm gonna have to give you a non answer on that, it's a stupid question

LOL!

what an idiot

miller, i mean

I love the way the right has to tell lies in order to get upset about how the IRS told lies

He was prepared.

When asked questions to which he did not know the answer to, he was prepared to say "I don't know"

Problem solved!

He willfully failed to prepare.

It would be impossible to misread the outcome more than you have. Watch what happens now.

Problem created, actually.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

No he didn't and his excellent performance proves that he was thoroughly prepared

As the only person in this discussion who has been through Congressional hearings, I'll just say that you should wait, watch and learn.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

He willfully failed to prepare.

the folks who were clearly unprepared were the republican questioners
here is an example
IRS has rigid rules about any IRS employee disclosing individual/entity information supplied to the IRS
yet time and again the republican committee members would ask miller about specific case scenarios
agency regulations - as he repeatedly shared with them - would not permit him to respond to those case specific questions
and the republicans would continue to ask case specific information
as i would hear them repeatedly make this same mistake i would wonder, who the hell elected these idiots

what makes you believe you are the only person on this board who has participated in congressional hearings?

who the hell elected these idiots

the white house's newest defense, this morning:

Officials on Benghazi: We're the idiots - CBS News

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath.

The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up." Nonetheless, in the eight months since the attacks, this is the most sweeping and detailed discussion by key players of what might have been done differently.

"We're portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots," said one Obama administration official who was part of the Benghazi response. "It's actually closer to us being idiots."

back to the irs, why can't the idiot in charge state unequivocally he did not know what was going on for 2 years at his internal revenue?

Obama pushes back on IRS, AP, Benghazi - Jennifer Epstein - POLITICO.com

too case specific?

He's permitted to answer to Congress.

The quality of others' replies.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

Someone said that during Eric Holder's testimony he asserted the "I don't know" answer over 50 times in the course of answering, or 'non-answering' his questions. I wonder how many times we heard that yesterday.....Seems like a pattern of deception going on here in reporting to congress doesn't there?

I think we need a special prosecutor for the IRS, and DOJ both, and a select committee for Benghazi. Anything short of that, and soon is dereliction by Boehner.
I agree. Until watching that S-Span video, I was giving the upper management of the IRS the benefit of doubt. Not no more.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

How hilarious is it to see someone argue that civil servants should be prepared to answer stupid questions? :lamo
Are you defending the jerk?

He's not just a Civil Servant. He is in a top executive position, or was. He resigned over this. He needs jail time also in my view. What he allowed to happen, I'm pretty sure goes beyond incompetence. Nobody makes it that high up in the ranks being as incompetent as he displayed himself over the ordeal.

It's even funnier when you claim that he allowed it to happen when it happened before he got the position!! :lamo

You didn't watch any of the two videos I linked, did you. Now I don't know when he was appointed to that position, but they asked him of his action after knowing about these things under his watch. He was still in a top IRS position before being acting commissioner.

Do you ever fact check?

From his IRS bio:

His previous position, before being acting IRS commisioner:

Previously, as the Commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division, Steve oversaw the administration of tax law relating to employee plans, tax-exempt organizations and various government entities.

I see you may be another here to be ignored.

Please fact check.

So now you're changing your argument!! A sure sign that you got pwned
