IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups[W:484,732]

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

This is banana-republic stuff. It's not the sort of stuff IRS workers should be fired for; it's the sort of stuff they should get prison time for.

ObamaCare will not be administered with any more fairness than the tax laws were.

Some conservative and libertarian groups have long suspected that the Internal Revenue Service has targeted right-leaning non-profits for extra scrutiny, but such allegations were always difficult to prove (and often sounded a bit conspiratorial). Now, however, the head of the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt organizations has admitted her division targeted “tea party” and “patriot” groups — and apologized for it. In addition, the IRS apparently asked some groups for donor lists, even though such requests are usually contrary to IRS policy. (Hat tip: Rick Hasen, whose first comment was ”Wow.”) As they say, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean people aren’t out to get you.

I want heads on pikes.

how is this different from profiling those looking middle eastern when boarding planes because of the greater likelihood of catching a bad guy?

...Okay. We don't do that but I'll play along.

Has the majority of recent significant attempts at fraudulently establishing tax-exempt status been from "tea party" and "patriot" groups?

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

I dunno, but not paying taxes is their mantra...

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

so the IRS used gestapo tactics in an attempt to silence groups that opposed Obama. this is the same department that will have access to our medical records thanks to Obama care. And we supposed to have faith in the government and not fear tyranny according to Obama

Well...a few low level workers in a single field office is hardly "The IRS" as some kind of entity. And how would the IRS have access to our medical records?

when has the Tea Party ever flown a plane into a building? when has the Tea Party ever done any acts of violence?

This...doesn't make sense in relation to his question. He wasn't suggesting the Tea Party did those things.

I dunno, but not paying taxes is their mantra...

yes, why would it be smart to profile them? [/s]

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

I dont think they should be targeted, but I dont think this is a story either.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

I dunno, but not paying taxes is their mantra...

TEA in the Tea Party stands for "Taxed Enough Already"

Not "No TAXES AT ALL".

The Tea Party mantra isn't "There should be no taxes of any kind at all".

I see your like Justabubba, but I'm still waiting for an answer. I'll be happy to address your hypothetical, but you at least have to present evidence that the situational circumstances are relatively similar. The Tea Party wanting lower taxes is not it.

In the analogy you used...there's actual tangible evidence of the significant instances of the particular action in recent history being caused primarily by people within the group of people being profiled.

Thus...for your analogy, you'd need to show tangible evidenec of the significant instances of fraudulent application for tax exempt status in recent history being caused primarily by Tea Party and Patriot groups.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

. And how would the IRS have access to our medical records?

the enforcement agency for Obama care will be the IRS. Obama care has given the IRS the right to access your medical records so to help with the enforcement

good question
given its current data base the IRS should be able to answer your question

I think you are astute in setting your priorities, Rocket88. I hope this story gets some legs.

I think heads need to roll, but it won't happen. The IRS has already said that no disciplinary action will be taken.

This is bureaucratic tyranny, straight from the top of our government.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

Do you really think Obama told the workers to target RWers? Really?

Key:

Certainly inexcusable behavior, just trying to make sure nobody reads the headline and pictures some massive conspiracy.

Why aren't those people getting their asses fired??

because they thought they were doing the job they were assigned to perform

About the IRS haveing your EMR.
About what?

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups in 201

because they thought they were doing the job they were assigned to perform

LOL...if that's the case, then they're way too stupid to hold those positions and need to be relieved of their posts, for incompetance.

On what level of idiocy does one have to be, to think this is ok?

The most amazing part, is how you people are swooping in to defend these asshats.
