Christie Had Secret Weight-Loss Surgery

If memory serves, Reagan's colonoscopy result was deemed suitable for broadcast news. I don't recall such intimate personal details being broadcast about a British politician, maybe it's an American thing...

Health of the state. We want them tall, handsome, physically fit, and with the oratory of the Roosevelts or religious preachers. Personally, I buy into hardly any of those (the oratory being the most interesting for me, but far less than other things).

Yes we want the appearance of a leader but not the acumen for leadership. God bless democracy.

That's the nature of the beast. As are the debates. They are for show (as were the highly discussed Lincoln and Douglas debates) and not a great reflection of leadership. The election process isn't exactly about the page limit of memos you will read, how do you want decisions made within your administration, etc etc. All it comes down to is, some superficial aspects are more preferable than others.

It depends on each President. Sometimes stretching the truth is necessary, sometimes their ideas change once they get into power, sometimes they face internal opposition or complications trying to move their agenda forward, and then you have the all-too prevalent thought: they were "hijacked by (group)." The first three are more true than the last.
