There are side effects with almost all meds but the serious ones that are linked with B C pills are because of the estrogen which is in the B C pills.

Minnie, there are long-term side effects with almost all types of synthetic hormones. Steroids are made from synthetic hormones. I cannot even believe that some of you are just trying to brush this under the rug. WHY?

Are you okay with the pharmaceutical companies using our children as guinea pigs?

Why would you think I am trying to brush anything under the rug?

I have read a lot about Plan B , I have some medical knowledge and just do not think Plan B is as harmful as you seem to think it is.

I understand your concern for minors. I am a parent of 4 and I get it.

I am also a grandparent.

I have 14 teen age nephews and nieces whom live near by and are very near and dear to me.

I do not want any of them to end up being teen parents.

I also trust them enough that I feel if they ever felt they needed to use Plan B they would use it responsibly.

That's wonderful about your grandchildren being responsible kids Minnie, but more than likely the kids who would be using this drug are not very responsible kids. There are so many children who are just lost. They don't care about themselves. They are self-destructive. It's a sad fact of life.

IMO, it is just so irresponsible to just give young girls this pill and say it's all good now. A lot of times it's when an adult becomes aware of a teen's situation that the teen actually receives the help she (or he) needs. I'm talking in psychological/psychiatric terms; not just the pregnancy.

Huh? That doesn't even make sense. Just because they're self destructive doesn't mean they want to be pregnant. This is the PERFECT method of birth control for those girls who are doing all kinds of things behind their parents backs, who are not on the pill and who are promiscuous. It's not hard for a promiscuous girl to get 50 dollars either, especially ones that go with older guys. :roll:

Actually condoms and or regular BC pills are much more effective than Plan B. Plan B is not the PERFECT method of birth control you seem to think it is.

If they have that muc money to blow, there are bigger problems in that family than just a teen having sex

Any teenager that can so that they don't have to tell their parents. And another problem will be when teenage or older boys offer to pay for the Plan B if the girl has sex with him.

Many teenagers have jobs. Others have credit cards. And still others will simply steal, beg, or borrow it. Which is yet again another issue, since they may think they can do this and fail to that one time. Then, they're pregnant.

And there are plenty of parents who just give their kids money when the kid asks. It isn't like they would have to tell what the money was being used for, they could lie and say school clothes, new shoes, school supplies, makeup, toiletries, or any combination of these. So they say they picked up medicine, feminine products, makeup (could easily get up to that much) or many other things for that amount and charged it.

This is the biggest reason that Plan B even says that it does not reduce pregnancies overall because many people come to rely on Plan B as birth control and then "whoops!" they can't afford it that one time and they are now pregnant. It is even more likely to happen in highly irresponsible people, aka teens and young adults.

And no, parents are not being "negligent" by simply trusting their teenaged daughters. You apparently feel that you wouldn't trust your teenage daughter if she told you she needed $50 for one or more of those things I mentioned, yet you would trust her to responsibly use Plan B or better yet trust her to have responsible sex as a teenager?
