Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sports

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

Name one person who isn't a "lying sack of **** in their personal relationships"?

Speak for yourself, bro. Some of us aren't.

Not that it has anything to do with being gay.

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

I notice that while you were dodging the question you failed to list anyone. ;)

Silly Timmy, pretending that an argument doesn't work doesn't affect it in any way. My point is that the people who are calling him a lying scumbag are doing so because their homophobic views make that person's "crime" worse than other people's "crimes".

Naw, I know what you were trying to do, but nice try in rebottle. Lying to one's girlfriend is one thing, I mean, it's not like lying to Moos for seven years about his true sexuality is the same as lying to your loved one about whether you where you went last night or anything, but hey.. I will be the first to say that I have never lied to my wife about being straight. Any other takers?

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

Define struggle?

to proceed with difficulty or with great effort

Even if they struggle with it, the {IT} that they're gay isn't a question they struggle with. The struggle is about who should know, and who shouldn't.

False.

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

Yeah, I thing a lot of people don't really know who they for decades. Some people suddenly become lawyers when they're 45. Or quit lawyering when they're 50 because they realized that they never really did like it that much. I still don't know who I am, and I suspect that who I am is still changing and likely will be for the rest of my life.

But, you know if you like girls or guys right?

People lie to their significant other about themselves constantly in relationships. I'd be willing to bet that you lie to your wife fairly regularly, or at the very least, you allow her to make certain assumptions that you know to be false.

Sure, but ask me again in a year. Who knows where I'll be then?

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

Speak for yourself, bro. Some of us aren't.

I have to say, I'm doubtful. I've never encountered a single person who did not lie to their significant other about multiple things fairly regularly.

Granted, I wouldn't use the term "sacks of ****" to describe these people, myself, but I was quoting someone.

Maybe you're missing why I'm challenging you. In order to perform the magic that is moral equivalency, one needs to show that the two issue are equal. Lying about your sexuality is NOT the same as just plain old lying. It's a whopper, wouldn't say? I had two pitchers of beer last night with a buddy, but when I came home I told my wife I only had one. Oops, I lied, but does that put me in Collins company? According to your argument it does. I argue that it does not, and if the lie is big enough then sure it would put that person in the scumbag arena as well. Do you understand now Tuck why your argument = FAIL?

So do you usually run around here slagging journeyman pros?

nope, just the ones who are held up as shining examples of bravery and heroicism.

anyone can be "brave" when they have little or nothing to lose. being "brave" under those conditions does not make one a hero.

edit: FWIW, check out any of the sports threads. I have trashed "journeyman" pros on several occasions ;)

LOL I love conservatives, they complain about two gay guys, but then quickly go in the back of their house and masterbate to two women going at it. go figure.

I don't, but even if I did, I wouldn't need to call a press conference to announce it so I can "be who I am."

It all sounds so silly, and........gay.

LOL

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

Why is this even news? I'd much rather the news focus on something far more legitimate and worthwhile...like properly reducing crime, our economics, and education.

Depends on the context. If the person was struggling with their sexuality for decades and was afraid to admit it to themselves, then they aren't doing something worse than the person who tells a ****load of "little" lies to their wife for personal gain. That's what a rational basis for determining equivilancy would be.

My argument is that the people calling him a scumbag do not use a rational basis for their inequivalency and will seek out irrational ways to make the closeted homosexual's actions worse than the non-homosexual's.

But I also know that you are incapable of introspection on this topic, so I do not expect you to understand my position.

(But I doubt it.)

Except that me having two pitchers of beer last night and telling my wife I only had one is NOT the same in ANY context as what this mans lies did to his ex girlfriend and seven years of her life wasted away on a man that could never feel the same way about her.

But nice try!

Hehe.. Well I can be had for two pitchers of beer and a Bills game, so I'm not exactly cheap, but very flexible. :)

Hey if you do come back let me know, we'll grab a few cold ones. I'll buy!

I read exactly what you wrote.

Yes, and you didn't comprehend it. There's a distinct difference between reading something & reading something and understanding it. You clearly failed to understand it. Unless you purposely created an asinine response.

Does your newspaper not carry a crime section or something?

Oh, good gawd, get over yourself. The depth you perceived in your post just isn't there.

Something doesn't have to be deep for you to misunderstand it. :shrug:What I said was pretty simple. That you misunderstood it says more about your intelligence then it does about the depth of the statement.

You said that gays on average were more educated and had better social skills. Did you not? That means you think that their sexual behavior and preferences translates into more intellectually and socially capable people. Right? That's so absurd, it's hard to believe I'm even bothering with this.

The rest of it was the tired, age-old argument of "compensating" for something because I'm opposed to your point in some way. That's been used for umpteen thousand arguments over time. It's right up there with nanny-nanny-boo-boo and I'm-rubber-and-you're-glue. It reeks of hollowness.

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

"The same people who believe that a Jewish woman named Mary conceived a child without having sex are now trying to teach us that the only way to not get pregnant is by not having sex."

Really...and the same people who falsely accuse criticize believers of the above try to convince mankind that killing unborn babies for convenience is simply not wrong...they would feel quite comfortable with Dr Mengele.

Re: Jason Collins (NBA Center) announces that he is gay, altering the landscape of sp

Oh good, you know how to read. Now let's see if you understand what you've read.... I won't hold my breath.

That means you think that their sexual behavior and preferences translates into more intellectually and socially capable people. Right?

Well, good thing I didn't hold it. What I said doesn't mean that sexuality translates into social status. They are correlated. Do you know what that means? I'll give you a clue: Correlation =/= Causation. I said that they are generally far more educated, well paid etc than straight men which may be the reason as to why there is so much envy and falsehood being spread about them. Not that they are more educated, well paid etc because they're gay. See why reading comprehension is important?

This is supported if one considers that the overwhelming majority of those opposed to homosexuality tend to be found in lower education social groups, less money etc. Protestant blacks, Social conservatives, evangelicals etc. You don't find well off conservatives rattling their sabers against gay marriage unless they're trying to sell a book.

That's so absurd, it's hard to believe I'm even bothering with this.

The only absurd thing here is that you failed to comprehend such a simple statement. No child left behind truly was a failure.

The rest of it was the tired, age-old argument of "compensating" for something because I'm opposed to your point in some way.

Compensating? No. I'm arguing homophobes are seeking to bring attention for their failed lives. Not compensating for it. Compensating would mean you're actually replacing it with something of remote equivalency. However, seeking attention is definitely not equivalent to living a failed life.

That's been used for umpteen thousand arguments over time. It's right up there with nanny-nanny-boo-boo and I'm-rubber-and-you're-glue. It reeks of hollowness.

Spare me the big words buddy. You failed to comprehend a simple statement. It's too late to pretend you do now.
