99.5% Of Illegal Immigrants Get Approval For Legal Status

What I was trying to get at is my ancestors came off the boat, were checked for any diseases, and were waived right on in. Pretty much were told "Thanks for coming and good luck". I don't see why it should be any different today.

Because urban areas are overpopulated, unemployment is very high and jobs are scarce, government benefits are spread thin, and when all of this combines with poverty, crime rates skyrocket. Immigrants who cannot even speak English are going to have a hard time finding work in this job market and when they can't support their families, crime becomes a necessity. When we were saying 'Thanks for coming and good luck,' times were very, very different.

Nope. The end goal should be getting rid of the government completely, but a good start would be to get rid of welfare programs and let private charity, churches, and community organizations take on a much greater role in our society.

Somalia doesn't have a string government. Why do you want to make the U.S. like Somalia?

And the post he was responding was just a bastion of rational thought!

Nope, but since Spud had already responded sufficiently enough to that post I felt that I didn't need to beyond a /like of spuds post.

Not usually ain't good'nuff.

No, not for the "government owes me everything" people. They wouldn't survive no matter what the conditions are.

Not necessarily.

So far, they're just legalizing youth who were brought here as children, at east that's what they say. Once they get on the amnesty bandwagon for good, we'll see a big increase in illegal immigration.

At least, that's what happened the last time it was tried.
Yep.

I don't have a problem with allowing kids brought here by their parents to share the abundance this nation can offer. I however, am a firm believer that you do not even talk about such measures until illegal immigration is under control.

You should read up on that time if you think this is all that happened, unless of course they had money. Generally anyone not rich had to go through quite a process to be allowed in the country legally. From medical tests to acceptable social dogma, such as a woman not being allowed to enter the US unless she had a male escort. Many people were turned back for even the hint of some "disease" and many other reasons.

Immigration is legal, but they circumvent the system making them criminals.

Only because the system makes them criminals in the first place. That's circular logic.

Immigration should be legal, you shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops.

There should be a nationwide deportation of all illegal immigrants, however long it takes to round them up, and a huge ****ing wall should be constructed with armed guards on it. No more illegal immigration problem.

Try sneaking into North Korea for example, see how they treat you. We are too nice about this.

That would be the big government solution, yes. Optimal? Of course not. Probably the least efficient/intelligent one.

We could solve the "problem" of illegal immigration by legalizing the process and not making criminals out of innocent people.

Remove the opportunity for them to work, and they will self deport. I say offer them a free ticket to a destination of choice to help them leave. The only law enforcement effort aimed at immigration should be against employers who give them jobs.

And what's wrong with that? We already have too many people on government assistance Now if you wish to sponsor a poor immigrant, and pay his way, have at it. Put your money where your mouth is. Not tax payer money.

Keep in mind also. Every job an illegal takes in one less job for a citizen or legal immigrant to take. If employers cannot find people at the wages they offer, they will simply have to raise their wages. We could also mandate that citizens on public assistance who are able bodied workers take these jobs, else lose or get reduced assistance. I prefer the supply and demand approach however.

Not including the billions spent on an endless war, here is $6.5 Billion in needless spending which could go towards a wall.

• $75,000 to promote awareness about the role Michigan plays in producing Christmas trees & poinsettias.

• $15.3 million for one of the infamous Bridges to Nowhere in Alaska.

• $113,227 for video game preservation center in New York.

• $550,000 for a documentary about how rock music contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

• $48,700 for 2nd annual Hawaii Chocolate Festival, to promote Hawaii's chocolate industry.

• $350,000 to support an International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy.

• $10 million for a remake of "Sesame Street" for Pakistan.

• $35 million allocated for political party conventions in 2012.

• $765,828 to subsidize "pancakes for yuppies" in the nation's capital.

• $764,825 to study how college students use mobile devices for social networking.

Least efficient / intelligent?

A wall which could not be climbed or dug under would be the absolute most efficient way possible to prevent illegal immigration. Obviously, the current system is not working. I challenge you to propose a more efficient solution. Heightened intelligence is not even required for this issue, it's simple.

I suppose then, you would be OK with China shipping over a billion of their people to our shores, if we opened the gates.

Sadly, much of them are day laborers. They gather on the side of the road and wait for people to pick them up to paint a house or do yardwork or build something for an abysmal wage. I've personally seen 100-150 on one street waiting. Law enforcement should be more vigilant.

From what we're seeing in the news recently with people losing their jobs in these organizations, yes!

Yes, and the people picking them up should be charged.

We had an individual where I live take photos and publish the construction contractors picking them up. It helped shame the construction companies, but hasn't stopped it.

We need to make this practice illegal and fine these businesses.

Indeed. People only do things repeatedly if they keep getting away with it.

"Let's divert other wasteful spending into this wasteful spending." Sorry, all wasteful big government programs are the same to me, I don't make exceptions.

Wrong, a better way would be to legalize the immigration process and make it easier to get here, as we did when the Irish and Germans came. It's the most efficient solution.

Nope. The actions of one church do not speak for all churches, sorry try again!
