Mustapha Farrakhan, son of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, is an Illinois police officer who hasn't worked in four years, the Chicago Sun-Times said.

Farrakhan, 52, is a part-time police officer in the Chicago suburb of Harvey, with a badge, an unmarked and city-owned police car and a license to carry a weapon but has not worked a shift in four years, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday.

This week the Illinois Police Standards and Training Board opened an investigation to Farrakhan's employment status, board director Larry Smith said.

Chicago seems like a good place to go to get an overpaid position and do minimal to no meaningful work.

Didn't Frau Obama have such a position at a local hospital paying $300,000+ ?
They closed the position after she quit? There was no replacement necessary?
She must have had small shoes to fill... or perhaps no shoes at all.

Of course all this is achieved without being connected.

First let us address the salary. In 2005 she was paid almost 317,000 as her terminated pension plan pay out and a signing bonus was included in her pay, she had another competing offer at the time. Also at the time the UC Hospital paid approx 200,000 to 363,000 per year to their VPs. in 2006 she received approx 273,000. In 2007 she got 103,000. 2008- 62,700. So no she wasn't paid over 300K for her position.

When she left the hospital reorganized and her department was headed by a Dr. Eric Whitaker as the exec VP of strategic affiliations and associate dean of community affairs. Michele Obama is credited with expanding community volunteerism by 5 times and her new program the South Side Health Collaborative became a pillar of the new Urban Health Initiative launched as part of the reorganization.

So she wasn't paid 300K for a do nothing job, volunteerism vastly increased both by the community supporting the hospital and hospital workers out in the community. She started and ran a new program that later was taken over by Dr. Whitaker as his centerpiece for the new Initiative.

Now onto Farrakhan's son. He is part of the community outreach program and as such doesn't work a shift, or patrol the streets. In Lawton Ok our Dare Officer is a commissioned Law Enforcement Officer who has a specially designated city vehicle and doesn't do 'shift worker'. He can do outreach in a school one day and a night time community action group's meeting later. It will be interesting to see what he did rather than simply noting he doesn't do shift work.

What an incredible amount of money for doing absolutely nothing except being married to a state senator!

Is there no outrage on the part of their annointed ones that the braying loons will not defend?

What is the supposed basis for his current pay and perks? It always amazes me that people will actually associate with Farrakhan in public. The NOI are nothing more than racist loons

He is part of the Community outreach program? Is that the one they say he volunteers his time to while living in his Big home out in Crete? I never heard that myself. But let take a look see.

Officer Farrakhan does, though, appear to do “police work” off-duty, more than a dozen miles outside Harvey city limits, in Chicago, where he uses his Harvey squad car’s lights to stop traffic and escorts his father’s unofficial motorcade, a Chicago Sun-Times investigation has found.

The unusual arrangement that allows him to carry a concealed gun into places where regular citizens can’t, and to drive a police car, despite apparently failing to do regular police work for the suburb that employs him, may be especially useful to the man who leads the Nation of Islam’s “Fruit of Islam” security detail.

Instead Eaves issued a statement describing Farrakhan as a “volunteer” police officer whose appointment he “stands behind.”
“Officer Farrakhan assists the Police Department with community relations, in its quest to strengthen ties between police and the community,” the chief wrote.

The statement does not address the fact that Farrakhan lives half an hour’s drive south of Harvey, in Crete.

It’s a statement the chief may have to expand upon. The Illinois Police Standards and Training Board this week opened an investigation into Farrakhan, the board’s deputy director, Larry Smith, said.

Once he had qualified as a sworn officer, Farrakhan worked just nine hours in the first half of 2007, upped his workload to 14 hours in the second half of that year, put in a yeoman-like 118 1/2 hours in the second half of 2008, before beginning an absence that continues to the present day, according to records Harvey Police filed with the state.

Farrakhan’s squad car, a black, high-mileage Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, was purchased used from Palatine Police Department on Aug. 28, 2008 — right in the middle of his busiest period as a cop.

Records from the Illinois Secretary of State showed that Farrakhan signed the title over to the city, using the name “Wallace Farrakhan,” which he prefers on all official police documents.

Official Chicago Police escorts are normally reserved for high-ranking public officials and foreign dignitaries. They typically have to be cleared by the Department’s Special Events and Liaison Unit, according to Chicago Police spokesman Adam Collins. But “the CPD does not provide Louis Farrakhan with a motorcade,” Collins said, and it “doesn’t have any record of such a request.”

Illinois law does allow police officers to use their powers anywhere in the state, according to John Millner, a former Republican state senator, Elmhurst Police chief and head of the Illinois Police Chief’s Association.

But by custom, cops are supposed to use their powers outside their jurisdiction only in an emergency, in areas immediately contiguous to their jurisdiction, or at the invitation of the department whose area they’re in, he said.

He adds: “What is the nexus between this man’s security work for the Nation of Islam, and his employment as a Harvey police officer?”.....snip~

Farrakhan son is part-time Harvey cop but hasn

Although Harvey Police has had quite a few problems.....especially under this Mayor. Though in Farrakhan's defense......I doubt he is part of all the Beatings that take place inside that Police Dept. Might be cuz he is a Community Relations Officer.....huh?

You are highly selective in your snipping ain't ya? She was paid on BELOW average what the other VPs got, and I could agree most 'administrators' ain't worth what they make, but you also exclude the increase in community support and volunteerism the Hospital enjoyed due to her programs and outreach.

Pretty biased... :peace

if he doesn't do general police work then why does he need a squad car with lights?

Secondly, what is your source for all of this?

Right, I'm a Conservative. Is that OK with you?

Are you going to pretend that you were unaware Michelle received a $200,000 salary jump when Obama was elected state senator? Look at the incredible amount of money she was paid for "the increase in community support and volunteerism the Hospital enjoyed due to her programs and outreach." (Your words).

You can pretend that's a substantial job worth a fortune in salary, but don't expect others to travel to outer space with you.

So the bottomline is he doesn't have a state supplied vehicle- he bought it as a retired police vehicle from a police dept. He isn't paid as he is called a volunteer police officer, and he has in fact passed the training and received his commission.... just like 'volunteer' instructor in Arizona Seagal????

So what was the OP talking about???

How is this connected to Obama?

NotQuiteRight connected the discussion to Obama when he posted this:

I think you got the wrong guy, I never posted that.

Are you really going to act as if the general public can buy a squad car and use it's lights in such a manner, or that someone doing community "outreach" should be doing so? There is no legitimate use for it

PS I suggest researching Tu quoque

What was the Sun times investigation talking about then......he didn't sell the Car to the City of Harvey? Correct he passed the training to be an actual cop. If he isn't paid then how did he get a salary? How does he use the Police vehicle for security for OM Farrakhan again in the City of Chicago.....while being a Now Volunteer Cop as this Police Chief is saying.

Oh I don't expect right wing partisans to do the same...see the difference???
You did no research into her '200,000 salary jump' did you? She didn't make that money as a salary but a pension buy out and bonus FOR ONE YEAR. Her non VP salary was 120,000 so no '200,000 salary jump' getting the VP spot.

You dodge the fact her programs were highly successful, her fund raising set a record that stood for 12 years and her centerpiece program, became her successor's centerpiece program.

Put some numbers to the 'increase in community support and volunteerism' like 4 and 5 times the starting amount.

You have a fop phrase of the day calendar don't you? ;)

I do believe MMC has reported in the state of Illinois a cop can do cop work pretty much across the state. This guy isn't part of the general public, like you, but a commissioned LEO. He does get a few perks with that, like MMC says, can carry concealed many places a 'general public' can't. Unless a police department objects he can escort and assist the community as he likes because he is a volunteer cop with a privately purchased vehicle- you seem intent on forgetting the OP complaint on this all.

It's silly to attempt to defend the indefensible and it comes across to others as silly.

No, just pointing out you should understand debate before attempting to engage in it ...

I do believe MMC has reported in the state of Illinois a cop can do cop work pretty much across the state.

That doesn't address the need for a cop car and it being part of the city motor pool, when he is simply doing "community outreach" where such isn't needed

This guy isn't part of the general public, like you, but a commissioned LEO.

You made it sound as if this is something everyone could do

and a squad car that he seems to have no legitimate use for

Uh, the entire discussion is about the impropriety of all of this. Citing the decisions of the mayor and police department, when those are the very things in question, doesn't make much sense

Correction.....that would be the Chicago Sun Times Newspaper that has printed out the story and conducted their own investigation.

No that would be the Former Sentaor John Milner that said.....but by the page flipping over let not forget what th rest of what he said.

according to John Millner, a former Republican state senator, Elmhurst Police chief and head of the Illinois Police Chief’s Association.

But by custom, cops are supposed to use their powers outside their jurisdiction only in an emergency, in areas immediately contiguous to their jurisdiction, or at the invitation of the department whose area they’re in, he said....snip~

Course the Chicago Police also kinda explained it too. Which I think both the Chicago Cops and the Sun Times would know what they are talking about with escorting a so called Private Citizen as you say.

Louis Farrakhan Son Police Probe: Illinois Police Agency Investigating Mustapha Farrakhan
Harvey Police Chief Denard Eaves described Farrakhan as a "volunteer" police officer, but declined to provide the newspaper any details ...
volunteers hopefully do not receive a salary
otherwise, this appears to be a low cost mechanism to facilitate his father's security
also creates a collaboration between the nation of islam and the police, which would not otherwise be present. don't see that as a bad thing - tho very unusual

graft, nepotism and corruption on the part of a "forthecon"... color me

with a group of racists?

i am not fond of many of the teachings and practices of the nation of islam, but if they conduct themselves lawfully, what does it matter that they choose to be racial bigots. it's a free country
