Boston Marathon bombing suspect caught after day-long manhunt

. 2 guys shutting down a major city is one hell of a job.

I'm not even sure what your point is here. Businesses were asked to close and residents were asked to stay indoors, for what amounted to less than a day, while the most massive manhunt in my lifetime facilitated the death of one and the capture of the other. People I talked to said there were literally cops on every corner, and when there's just you and your pursuers, where the hell do you think you're gonna' go.

They didn't shut anything down. We did, because we weren't about to let these two animals get away, and they didn't.

Personally, I think everyone involved did a fantastic job. The residents of Watertown lined the street and applauded Law Enforcement as they drove away, and they certainly deserved it.

The three top terrorists in custody were waterboarded for verifiable information (not confessions) in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, representing a ticking time bomb scenario. Get over it!
We're talking about the Boston Marathon bombings - not ancient history. : )

My plan is the same as everyone else - catch them. And I object to locking down a city just because of 2 guys. I don't think the lockdown was necessary, I think it was an overreaction and will serve to embolden crazies.

Statistically speaking, those 2 guys were insignificant were it not for the ghost town they (actually, we) created.
This is the first crowd-sourced anti-terrorism effort, winds up in 5 days what might have taken years, if ever, to solve. Good job social media. : )

You brought it up, not me. Tell that to yourself.

Oh, yeah... it would never have been solved.

What I don't understand is how some people go full-on "it could have been worse" but totally forget that argument when criticizing the acts of the "other party".

Pfft, a sports game does that for Boston most years.

I remember the days post 9/11. For at least two weeks, people were nice in traffic, in stores, everything. It may have lasted a month before people went back to crapping on each other.

....Why so bitter? This showed America's resolve against terror and those who inflict harm upon this nation, and the Entire world watched. (sidenote: IF terror attacks in the US were more common place, we would then take a more Israeli approach of getting on with our business/not letting it affect our day to day life)

I think my timing is off. It's too early to second guess, use hindsight, be critical and be negative about the process. Perhaps I should wait a couple days before criticizing.

The only problem I had with that was the amount of people falsely identified as being the suspects on the internet. People rushed to circle people, with little reason, and spread around the images. Then, others identified by name, were strongly insinuated as being one of the suspects. Of course, afterwards some apologies were thrown out there, but the internet's restraint was hardly existent. Social media can help, but often times, it's just like a Junior High rumor mill playing at higher stakes.

FISA and the TSA were ludicrous. It's letting the terrorists win.

I agree that much of TSA is BS. I don't have too much trouble with FISA, since those "warrantless taps" must satisfy the following requirements:

1. One party is not in the US.
2. One party is on the terrorist list.
3. A ~"special-quick" warrant must be obtained from a special panel of judges (or one of specially designated judges?), prior to the tap.
4. A real warrant must be obtained, without anything from the tap, before any of the evidence gathered by the tap can be used against a person.

I'm not nuts. 2 guys shutting down a major city is one hell of a job. You gotta admit that.

You mean an entire city of millions coming together to catch a couple of terrorists who wanted to tear apart the fabric of our society

Yeah, they were real successful!

You expect 2 dudes to tear apart the fabric of our society? That's ridiculous. What could realistically be accomplished by 2 dudes? Locking down a million people and shutting down Boston for a day is pretty significant, especially with nothing more than a few homemade hand-carried bombs and guns. And, as far as I've seen, neither had any significant training. One was basically a kid.

But that's it. No one else is getting me to comment on this aspect for a bit. It's simply not the time to be criticizing the efforts.

You think their aim was to shut down Boston? :lamo

Locking down a city because of 2 people is ludicrous. It's letting the terrorists win.

The city was shut down to protect the citizenry from being car jacked, forced to withdraw money at their ATM, armed robbery at convenience stores. Seems reasonable to me and if they hadn't and more innocent people were hurt because the authorities didn't ask them to "shelter in place", we'd be having another kind of discussion about the police being lax with civilian safety.

Who said that? The intention was to create terror. I'm judging by results, and not fantasy expectations like you. Some dude and his kid brother brought Boston to a standstill, a million people hiding in their homes, with hand-carry homemade bombs, guns and no training. We need to talk to Israel.

That happens every day in Boston. We need a longer lockdown?

ps. You guys are determined to make me look like a dick, aren't you?

I would also add the suspects might have left bombs planted throughout the city. During the Thursday night chase they were throwing pipe bombs at the police. The next day during the lock down I heard over the police scanner that they were detonating several pipe bombs.

No, creating terror is not the goal of terrorists. It is a means to an end (an end these terrorists won't accomplish)

So, you think 2 guys with pressure cookers, guns and no training could have destroyed the western world? Do you think they expected to? Or do you think they merely expected to create terror.

I have to wonder if you're intentionally not getting it. I'll repeat it, just in case you're being sincere

Creating terror is not the goal of terrorists. It is a means to an end.

Saying that the terrorists won because of the effort we put into capturing them is like saying Japan won WWII because they made us devote so much time and money developing nuclear weapons.

Wow, several pipe bombs? That might kill one or two people! If they're sitting on them.

For a guy and his kid brother, with hand-made and carried bombs and guns, terror is all they could expect to occur. I'm sure they didn't expect to destroy the western world. You've completely lost perspective here.

SO now you can read minds, and know that they were not acting under orders, or in league, with some other organization?

And if you think the only expectation they could have was either (a) create terror, or (b) destroy the western world, then it is you who have lost perspective, not to mention rationality

Ok, what do you think they expected to happen? I bet they didn't expect for a million people to be "sheltering in place" and Boston to be a ghost town. I'm pretty sure that was well beyond their wildest expectations.

Could you get anymore cynical? Wasn't there enough dead and wounded for your taste?

You're accusing me of wanting more carnage? That's a really scummy thing to do.
