Boston Marathon bombing suspect caught after day-long manhunt

it cost an estimated 333 million to close Boston down for the day not to mention the disruption it would of caused businesses, commuters etc all to capture a 19 year old kid who had no where to go, of course the terrorists won they caused maximum political and economic damage with 2 small bombs.

No, they won nothing. NOTHING!

One is dead, one captured, and the investigation continues.

They did not break American resolve, and did not break American spirit.

Americans are not so easily beaten down as others are.

Americans are still strong, and still here.

Take your defeatist attitude elsewhere.

Locking down a city because of 2 people is ludicrous. It's letting the terrorists win.

True this.

This whole thing just stands testament to how easily the government can control us.

do you know what a martyr is?

do you know what a martyr is?

Yes. That little boy was martyred. Bomber walked right up to him and put the bomb-bag down. That's no martyr; that's a murder with a depraved indifference to humanity. A loser.

Yes , of course the cost was large just ask the Richard family how big the cost was to them. If they had not made such a quick arrest and this guy whereabouts were unknown it would also have cost the tourist industry of Boston.

You got to jump on crime hard and fast. It is what it is.

Its still terrorism and anyone that lived during the IRA days can testify how effective that type of warfare is, car bombs, nail bombs, pipe bombs you name it. As for the two terrorists themselves of course they are martyrs now and probably hero worshipped throughout the terrorist world. If they had wanted to escape they could of easily got a plane the next day and the FBI would of been none the wiser, instead they stayed and got into a gun fight with Boston's finest which then resulted in a whole city being shut down. Eco touched on this earlier in the thread but I will repeat what he said, what kind of message do you think that send to enemies of the west? Two young amateurs managed paralyze a whole US city so now think what 20 hardened al Qaeda could do with a bigger bankroll and better weapons.

Don't get me wrong im happy these guys are off the streets and I commend the city of Boston for what must of been a tough week. But at the end of the day 2 guys were able to bomb a high profile sporting event, cause death and destruction, then were able to walk the streets for days after until the whole city is shut down to catch them. Its shambolic no matter what way you slice it.

And with an administration and portion of the citizenry that refuses to deport illegal immigrants the dead will keep piling up so the Liberals can keep feeeling goood about themselves. For cripes sake the FBI knew this guy Tamerlan was involved with radicals, they must have known he did not have citizen status, why wasnt he immediatly deported? Probably because the guy in charge "Barak the Magnificent" (policy wise) didnt want to see that happen. We also see that some of the 9-11 terrorists overstayed there visas & if the goverment was doing there job, should have been deported.

Just think if the people that were elected to office would do there sworn duties & enforce the law of the land when it comes to immigration, its certainly possible that 9-11 & this latest debacle may have never happened.

Wake up! Certainly we couldnt stop terrrorism altogether but we could make it alot tougher on foreign terrorists.

It will always be almost impossible to fight someone who is willing to take his own life in a bombing or shootout. Even in Israel which has to be the most defensive alert countries in the world where almost every citizen is armed they still deal with terrorist attacks.

One postive note perhaps is that whatever you do in public you are on someone's camera.

that's very true and I was again encouraged to see so many normal people helping that day of the bombing.

Six of the 911 hijackers were here past their time limit on their Visas. There was also reported that a couple of the dead hijackers had visa renewal forms sent to their addresses. I didn't know Obama was in the white house then.

They captured the guys far quicker than IRA terrorists were after a typical bombing.

If they didn't plan to get away with it, why not start shooting people at the scene in addition to the bombing? They clearly wanted to get away with or pursue further attacks.

They're dead/captured, and they won't be able to commit further attacks. It's hard to give them a victory from that.

I think the world learned much from the IRA back in the day, and we are going to learn from this too, I hope. We must.

But the IRA were an organised group with safe houses and lots of money. If they had wanted to evade capture they could of easily hopped onto a plane the next day and be sipping Vodka in the motherland, instead they stayed causing further terror and cost the US tax payer probably close to 500 million.

Considering they needed to rob a convenience store I don't how easy it would have been to pay for a flight a flight to Russia, nor would that guarantee their safety. If they had no interest in self preservation and no further plans, they wouldn't have had more homemade explosives and they would have done the whole blaze of glory thing at the original scene.

They were not martyrs and they have been brought to justice.

I am grateful to the law enforcement organizations for their swift work in finding and removing these two from causing further terror. People DO deserve to celebrate and praise them. However, the jubilation being exhibited is an example of our need for instant gratification, and will lull people into thinking all is well with the world. It is not. These celebrators seem to be skipping over the question many are asking: How did this happen on Obama's watch? Did not the FBI have eyes on the older brother and why was he not neutralized, thus preventing this attack? But we probably will not be privy to that discussion from our 'unbiased' media sources. I am still waiting for Chris Matthews to blame Bush. He hasn't yet, but give him time. I bet Matthews' feeling of security and safety are overwhelming him, and soon it will send more tingling type feeling up his leg once more. Obama's lack of fortitude toward terrorism will cause more deaths in the future. We are at war, but someone better let the president know, and soon.

The older brother was definitely a martyr and will be treated as one my fundamentalist s worldwide.they also showed scumbags worldwide how to shut down a major city. I understand why people are relieved and want to see this as a win for the good guys, but im sorry I just dont see it. The goal of terrorism is to inflict maximum damage and terror on a enemy, they managed that and some.

Good grief! Terrorism is only effective if you let yourself get terrorized... and apparently we have. In the last seven years, we have had 900 deaths associate with mass shooting and about 20 deaths associated with terrorism. Please tell me what you really fear and why. Virtually all the deaths of US citizens from terrorism happened in one event, 9/11.

Terrorist attacks and related incidents in the United States
Mass shootings toll exceeds 900 in past seven years

I do blame George Bush for way over-reacting to 9/11, pushing through legislation like FISA reform and the TSA (security theatre at its best) and convincing the US of the need to occupy Afghanistan and attack and occupy Iraq... it defined his first term and created a bit of an obsession with Americans that terrorism is our number one fear.

Statistically speaking, now and on 9/11/01, you are far more likely to be a victim of a mass shooting or a car jacking then a terrorist attack. Sorry, its time to recognize the Muslim boogeyman for what it really is. We need to prioritize our legislative attention and limited government dollars to the biggest problems first.

Bomber was run over by his brother. Some martyrdom.

The first citation I had not seen or heard of in terms of "unspecified underground groups"; I had only seen that the older brother (or both?) had been to Chechnya recently. The second I had not seen and it does not really claim there was training (it speculates so, based on the home-made bombs). The last citation I did not see prior to making the claim that they were untrained (and it's from a UK tabloid).

Obviously, we are still waiting for what, if any, training they received. While we cannot be sure they had significant training, I would not make the claim that they were completely untrained in light of those citations (though the last hardly counts as a source in general and is only considerable due to the other citations).

At any rate, I was speaking of training in combat operations (and they may have had some of that as well, we'll see).

Your lack of knowledge concerning their training is why you shouldn't be jumping to conclusions about their training.

The same thing goes with respect to their goals. The fact is, while we know what they did, we really know little to nothing about their motive, intent, or their goals. It is way too soon to come to conclusions about what they were thinking

Whatever, at least I own my lack of knowledge and modify my positions.

Wrong. It's obvious to anyone that a goal of terrorists is to create terror. Your argument otherwise is pathetic semantic nonsense.

When I watched the Yankee fans pay tribute to Boston by singing the Red Sox's favorite song, Sweet Caroline....it gave me goosebumps. I haven't felt or seen that kind of solidarity with the American people for a very long time. No, I don't think the so called terrorists won at all, instead I think what they did just helped to solidify our resolve to git the ---turds who did that heinous crime. And it only took five days which was absolutely remarkable, imo.
