Explosion hits fertilizer plant north of Waco, Texas

Well, we are both pretending that we know what we are talking about. We'll have to wait for reality to catch up with us.

Well, we have to be realistic too. We can't pretend we don't see what we're seeing.

I guess we'll find out. I hope you're misinformed. I mean that in a nice way.

If you don't think Firefighters didn't die atleast, you are crazy. This makes Boston look like small beans and even OKC.

Texas Town of West located between Hillsboro and Waco along interstate 35 rocked by massive explosion. Ammonium nitrate fertilizer plant explodes. I just heard 60 dead and 100 injured on the local news here in North Texas. Please pray for the victims and the people of West.

Horrific! Those poor people. My thoughts are with them, victims and their families.

So much tragedy this week.

Did you watch that video? There's no way no one died.

My local news here in Texas said that fire fighters were at the scene trying to put out the fire. I don't see how anyone at the plant survived. God I hope I'm wrong. This is terrible. Also there is another tank that hasn't exploded so there is a risk of another major explosion hence the on going evacuation.

I don't think it's going to be a good outcome after seeing the blast. Hopefully the final numbers are better than speculated but it doesn't look good.

It's gonna be bad. Really bad..

Since they were on scene fighting a fire at the time of the explosion per MSNBC, I think it is safe to say quite a few firemen died unfortunately.

It's a unicorn thing. You wouldn't understand.

The number of potential burn victims may just be too much for the medical resources of a small town.

Please, lets try not to compare. Please.

I am just saying when people look at things.. this is more tragic like it or not. People could have been warned prior to it going up.

Care Flight Helicopters from all over Texas have been evacuating the injured to area hospitals in Dallas, Waco, Temple, and Austin for hours.

I know exactly where West is. A friend of mine use to live there. It wasn't much of town back then. pretty much ya sneeze ya miss it.

Jesus Christ.

Parkland here in Dallas is one of the number one burn centers in the country. It is also a level one trauma center.

Driving Waco / West is about 90 minutes away. By helicopter I'm not sure what the time would be. I'm sure Parkland will send a news alert on facebook or something.

Well they won't get too many Trauma cases.. as time is key..

What in the hell is going on? I surely hope this is unrelated. Nonetheless, that explosion was enormous. I hope people made it out, and that if people did die, that they died quickly and painlessly. I shudder to think of surviving an explosion/fire like that.

I have a friend out there in Waco. Anybody know how close to the town this is?

around 20 miles from Waco maybe a little less. They felt it in Waco I'm sure. Earlier I heard that people in South Dallas felt it. That's approximately 65 miles from West.

Live Updates: West Texas Fertilizer Plant Explosion Injures More Than 100 - ABC News

12:53 a.m. ET: Blood drives are planned for Thursday in Texas. Linda Goelzer of Carter Blood Care, the primary blood support service supporting more 58 counties, largest blood provider in Texas told ABC News the people in the community of West are “heart of gold people, like a Norman Rockwell painting.”
“The whole town is being evacuated. We had our blood supply pretty well stocked in Waco as of today but now we are sending more than 300 units of blood from Dallas Fort Worth down to Waco, that’s where patients are going. Many are being care-flighted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for treatment at their burn center,” Goelzer said.
“Tonight our message to our donors is don’t everybody come at once, we will have patients for who knows how long who will be needing blood. Especially O-negative are needed, universal donor, will likely be expended tonight. What we tell people is that the blood helping people tonight is what’s already on the shelves. What we’ll need most is for consistency. We have blood drives everyday and we will have them tomorrow, we just don’t want people flooding in, in droves, like they did after 9/11. We’re asking our regular donors to keep coming throughout the week because we expect there will be many survivors.”

I was relieved when there were no headlines saying there were deaths, and then I clicked on links reporting that there were confirmed deaths (with no numbers), and then the relief went away completely and then...well.....still....Jesus Christ.
