Texas Town of West located between Hillsboro and Waco along interstate 35 rocked by massive explosion. Ammonium nitrate fertilizer plant explodes. I just heard 60 dead and 100 injured on the local news here in North Texas. Please pray for the victims and the people of West.

Many of you remember the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in OKC. Ammonium Nitrate was used in that bomb. I think it was 50 bags of fertilizer used by McVeigh in that truck bomb. This plant had thousands of pounds of this stuff.

Damn. The body count sounds terrible. Of course it's CNN so it may be widely off.

shouldnt take long for conspiracy theorists to show up. they'll be here soon

That shook me to the bone. I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight. :(

I just heard that people in South Dallas felt the explosion. That's around 65 miles from West. People in Hillsboro thought the explosion was in their town. Hillsboro is 18 miles from West.

When I was little, a fertilizer plant near me had a rail car of the stuff go off. It was compared to a nuke blast complete with mushroom cloud by those close to the blast area. It blew out almost every window for a good radius around it. Fortunately nobody was killed because it went off in the middle of the night when the plant was closed and the plant sat in this small valley forcing the blast upward.

No deaths are reported.

“West EMS Director Dr. George Smith says as many as 60 or 70 people died and hundreds were injured Wednesday night in a fertilizer plant explosion in West,” KWTX reports.

ABC News’ Gio Benitez reports that at least 200 people have been injured, 40 critically, in the explosion. Further, roughly 75-100 houses and businesses have reportedly been completely destroyed.

Hillcrest Hospital has called in 250 to 300 additional staff to help. Holy crap.

Just heard about it and definitely keeping them in my thoughts and prayers. This week just needs to end!

I guess we'll find out. I hope you're misinformed. I mean that in a nice way.

Well, we have to be realistic too. We can't pretend we don't see what we're seeing.

I don't think it's going to be a good outcome after seeing the blast. Hopefully the final numbers are better than speculated but it doesn't look good.
