Obama sends former officials to Thatcher funeral

Exactly! as i have said it before, and i'll say it again, if Obama discovered a cure for cancer, the cons would still bitch and moan over it.

Oh, boy. I don't think we need to worry about him doing anything close to that.

She was only fifth longest serving PM. We already have the last of the cold warriors coming, nobody expects busy people to waste their time.

I was being sarcastic - Boston would be a convenient excuse for Obama, but I'm sure he had no intention of going unless he was the star of the show.

The star of this show is receiving the honor she earned, albeit posthumously, with over 2000 people in attendance! Wonderful! As a woman, this gladdens my heart to see another woman so honored!

While I'm sure the Right would like to see Ms. Thatcher added to Mt. Rushmore, she had no problem with oposition and probably wouldn't have cared less about not being liked by the Left..................

Good evening, Bonz! :2wave:

Another plus, IMO! And the British "Left" will be well represented tomorrow. It's the right thing to do, Bonz. :applaud:

I remember when I was in Britain that I quickly noticed how filthy the tube was. Then I read some snarky piece in the paper by Thatcher, as she justified eliminating the tube maintenance, that "We British are not the Germans(Madame, no one was making that grotesque error in judgement), we don't have to eat off the subway platforms"-------------6 months later one of the tube routes spontaneously combusted from all the filth and quite a number of people died.....................

Sounds like an urban legend to me. Good evening, Bonz.:2wave:

What were the economic conditions at that time in England? Similar to BHO recently cancelling White House tours because of the sequester? Leaders sometimes do things that mystify the public, I guess.

Hola ! And, wrong, it really happened. No one on the Right wants to face what an ideologue the woman was........................

This is a non issue, its just something more for the Right to bitch, face it ROMNEY LOST THE ELECTION!!!

Clear cut hyper partisan double standard and deflection by you noted, thanks.

Hola ! And, wrong, it really happened. No one on the Right wants to face what an ideologue the woman was........................

And yet she famously did business with Gorbachev. I'll have to see whether I can find some reference to the episode you describe.

I can give you a time frame: Late 80's-early 90's..................

She apparently was both understood and respected by the people of Britain, since she was the longest serving Prime Minister in English history. Her name in history is second only to Churchil, and they both earned their place in history! :2bow:

I have to say, I have read over the responses twice now, and am disappointed in some, but not shocked. Especially those that chose to attack me personally for raising the question. It isn't about me, it's about the US administration choosing not to pay respects to a former head of state of the closest American ally in the world.

And to those that believe that conservatives like myself are only posting about this because it is a reason to "bitch about anything Obama does", No. That's not it. Obama could have sent Biden, or even Michelle, and that would have been just fine. Considering that at Reagan's funeral, the Queen was present. I swear, progressive liberals just can NOT accept any criticism of their deity in the white house what so ever.

And lastly, the other thing that kind of sticks it the attempt to say that the Boston situation precluded Obama from going, and that might even be an excuse if they hadn't announced that no one was going prior to that even happening. See, the official explanation was that because of the importance of the up coming 'gun debate' they couldn't spare anyone to attend. So, the official explanation is that in a stunning moment of unintended honesty, the administration feels it more important to curtail as much of a constitutional right of the American people, than it is to show some class, and good manners and go to a funeral. It's like dealing with spoiled children.

Obama sent a higher level delegation to the funeral of Chavez than what he is doing here...I guess that is telling for sure.

She wasn't even fourth. And Churchill was a racist alcoholic who invented gassing Kurds.

I never said she wasn't popular. And at the time her ideas resonated with the British people. The same train of events was true with Reagan here. But, as I have often stated, a whole people can be wrong and a whole people can make bad decisions.................

Yeah, they should've kept Chamberlain so that Hitler could blitzkrieg all of Europe at once. And he wasn't even an alcoholic, he sipped watered down whiskey throughout the day and lived to his 90's.

She wasn't even fourth. And Churchill was a racist alcoholic who invented gassing Kurds.

Best explanation for the re election of Obama yet....

The curd gassing thing is an environmentalist plot of recent invention. Eat your bean curds and shut up about Churchill, Skippy.

Obama is basically right of center. If the Right hadn't gone so rightwing extremist over the last 30 years, they would see that. This is not the country I grew up in and it hasn't been for 30 years now...............................

This is unbelievable....Not one current official to send to Margret Thatcher's funeral? I mean come on! How many times can Obama snub England? Or any of our other traditional allies for that matter?

.

You have to remember one of Obama's first actions when he moved in to the White House was to have the bust of Winston Churchill returned to the British Embassy. That's not a snub put an insult to Great Britain.

Son like father, Barack's biological father just wasn't a Marxist but despised the British. "Son follows the condition of his father."

Now I always thought the V.P. was suppose to attend all State Funerals, at least that was one of their main functions in my life time. If it's a famous former head of state or a former head of state who was a strong ally to the USA then the President attends the funeral.

The UK has been America's strongest ally for over a hundred years. P.M. Thatcher played a significant role with helping to bring down the Soviet Union and ending the Cold War.

In fact the UK under Margret Thatcher played a bigger role ending the Cold War than the Democrat Party in America did considering that the Democrats basically surrendered in 1976 and no longer wanted to stop Communist expansion in the world.

What we see is Obama sending two former Republican Secretary of States who will not be representing America but the Republican Party.

It's an insult against the British people not to send Biden or Kerry to represent the current administration. I'm sure the Brits will not hold 48 % of Americans responsible for Obama disrespect to state protocol. But Obama better hope that America doesn't need the British to stand by our side in the next four years.

We already have less allies today than four years ago and what real allies we still have don't trust Obama. You don't throw allies under the bus and not to expect your other allies to wonder if they are next.

:lamo Is that right?.....Yeah, see, I see it the other way around....If progressives hadn't dragged this country so far left, they'd see that calling right of center individuals 'extreme' is laughable....This isn't the country I grew up in either my friend.

Why would Bush in particular go?

I don't really think this matters.

If we sent no one then it would be a snub, but Thatcher hasn't been PM in years and has just been a member of the house of lords. So wouldn't it be fitting that former officials during Thatcher's time would go to her funeral? I would rather people I worked with go than some officials I had never meet.

Isn't this really just non-issue?

Which other governments are declining to send a high official?

My gut says that he should have went. You could make the argument though that he has his hands full at home with the Boston Marathon bombing, and I think that would be a perfectly reasonable reason not to go, but it doesn't sound like he was planning on attending anyways. I don't see it as a huge deal though.

His decision not to go predated the Boston massacre. But what are Michelle and Biden and Kerry doing about Boston?

That's why you send a representative or the VP. Some will hate Obama for everything he does, but given the Boston attack I think most rational people would understand him staying in the US. After all, he did cancel his anti-gun rights call campaign due to the attacks.

I personally think that someone representing the US should have been sent, but it's not a major issue.

Why DO we keep insulting the U.K.?
