Obama sends former officials to Thatcher funeral

This is unbelievable....Not one current official to send to Margret Thatcher's funeral? I mean come on! How many times can Obama snub England? Or any of our other traditional allies for that matter?

For comparison consider, I believe that when Reagan died, England was represented by the current, as well as the former PM at the time, the Queen herself, and other dignitaries....We can't spare one current administration official?

BTW, I know that the partisan progressives will instantly say that Bush isn't going either, being as that is the go to excuse for them, and personally I don't think that is right either...Bush should go.

Bush Sr. should go, not necessarily Bush the younger. Biden should have been the logical choice to attend, but I would have been satisfied with Hillary even though she is no longer Secretary of State. This seems to say the Obama administration isn't sending anyone due to the fact they disagreed with her politics and not whom she was, a loyal U.S. ally and friend.

OP is hilarious.

His type of extreme right wing conservative will criticize Obama by saying he's "Snubbing and disrespecting" allies...

Whilst in the same breath calling us nanny state socialist European sheeple...

No one disses Americas allies more than the extreme right wing ilk such as the OP who adheres to the idiotic notion of "American exceptionalism"

Put me down as disappointed. Prime Minister Thatcher worked extremely well with the U.S. on matters that benefited U.S. interests. That not a single current senior official will be attending the funeral suggests that the U.S. does not remember its friends to the degree they deserve. The UK is not just any ally. It is one of the nation's most reliable and important allies.

Good evening,Pero. :2wave:

I don't care who is sent, but it should be someone of very high rank, in order that our Country is well represented to the rest of the world. It would be more insulting if anyone of lower rank were chosen than if no one were sent at all, IMO. Could Colin Powell be a reasonable choice?

If BHO still remembers his embarrassment at attempting to give a toast at the wrong time, that was not England's fault, but his own gaffe. To carry party partisanship to this level is not only disgusting, but says more about this administration than words could ever do.

George P. Shultz is worth more than all current "top officials" and living defunct presidents heaped together.

Just as a comparison, the current Prime Minister of Canada as well as a former Prime Minister of Canada who was in office at the same time as Thatcher will be in attendance.

I would also note, and I'm prepared for the ignorant comments, that Vice-President Cheney will be in attendance.

In defense of President Bush II, while the British invited him I have not heard that the Obama administration reached out to him and asked him if he'd like to go as a representative of the US - GW has made a point of not being in the limelight and not representing the US without the administration's request/approval, as it should be with all former Presidents, but unfortunately isn't.

Good evening, AP.:2wave:

A small administration is finding it difficult to acknowledge a large leader.

Good evening, Jack. :2wave:

Excellent!

Howdy Pol, hope all is well. Colin Powell would have been a good choice. You know Bill Clinton would have been another if President Obama didn't want to send any current active person from his administration.

Even if Obama did send a serving member of his delegation right-wingers would just bitch about the hotel bill anyways.

Most people I know don't even plan on watching the funeral and I live in England so I would of been shocked if Obama had made the trip especially given yesterdays events.

I'll bet after events in Boston most people in England, and many around the world, will be watching, if only for the possibilities.

that's true but I would be more worried about the race on Sunday given that any possible attackers wouldn't of had long to plan for Thatchers funeral.

Good evening,CJ. :2wave:

I glad that Canada understands good manners! This is not an ordinary funeral, but one honoring the longest serving Prime Minister in England's history! BHO could have gone long enough for that! The Boston problem could have been handled by Biden for a day or two! Sad....

I'm curious what those who make such a big deal out of Romney "Snubbing" england at the Olympics make of this

What about people who have no idea what you're talking about? DONT YOU CARE ABOUT MY OPINION? :(

Good evening Lady P. - I didn't realize Obama had planned on going but cancelled plans after the events yesterday.

Yeah, suddenly they care deeply about the feelings of other countries.

Until the hotel bill comes up, then suddenly SPENDING WAAAHH RAARR OBAMA

The funeral is tomorrow, CJ. Everyone who planned on going is already there! This isn't something that you can show up at an hour ahead of time, with all the global representatives attending. The security must be mind-boggling!

I was being sarcastic - Boston would be a convenient excuse for Obama, but I'm sure he had no intention of going unless he was the star of the show.

Even lying in her casket Thatcher would be taller than BHO. That's what he wants to avoid. Good evening, CJ.:2wave:

While I'm sure the Right would like to see Ms. Thatcher added to Mt. Rushmore, she had no problem with oposition and probably wouldn't have cared less about not being liked by the Left..................
