Obama, first lady release 2012 tax returns

Did Romney say the rich don't pay enough tax? Did Romney advocate raising taxes on the rich? Guess I missed that.

And even though Obama made less money he paid a bigger percentage than the GOP's last presidential nominee. And he gives a substantial amount to charity. What a horrible guy.

No one said that Obama is a horrible guy, he's just a horrible President and leader who doesn't practice what he preaches and doesn't lead by example. I'm sure he'd be a fine neighbor to have living next door though.

No one says Obama is a horrible guy? OK . . . maybe they don't use the word horrible. I can think of a lot of adjectives used to describe him as horrible throughout this site by people of a certain ilk.

Here is a title to another thread started by the author of this original thread starter: "Is obama insane, stupid or malicious?"

Ok, so some people say that he's horrible or worse. So what? Some people say that any politician on the planet is horrible or worse. But, I'm not talking about his politics when I say that he's not a horrible guy. I think he's a good guy who is horrible at politics.

All I said was (Paraphrasing) the implication was that, "Obama is horrible". I was right. You are different from many of his detractors in that you do not think he is a horrible person . . . that is a good thing.

I can't think of any US President who I think were/are bad people. They're all good people as far as I can tell, but some just aren't/weren't good Presidents/leaders.

I agree.

Andrew Jackson. Dude was a full-on racist who pretty much hated the company of everyone.

To the point however, you're right. No non-troll on the board thinks Obama is a bad person. It's his politics and under-the-table dealings is what makes him the worst president this country has ever had. It's his "Top 0.5%" lifestyle, while pretending to be for the "little people" makes him look publicly arrogant. It's his constant apologizing and bowing to other world leaders that makes him look like a pushover (while emboldening countries like North Korea into bully tactics). It's his strange bedfellows like G.E. that make him look shady and dishonest. It's his constant public attacks on the nation's wealth-makers that has cast such a black cloud of insecurity over our economy. It's his questionable acquaintances and political appointments (Bill Ayers, Van Jones, Tim Geitner, Valerie Jarrett, David Axelrod, Carol Browner, etc.) that telegraphs a secret agenda.

Yes he gave to charity and took the tax break for that even though he has lobbied to lower that deduction.Hypocrisy on display.

"Like past budget proposals, President Obama’s new budget plan calls—again—for lowering the charitable contribution deduction."

"The current tax code allows individuals to deduct their giving from their overall tax liability at a rate equal to their tax bracket. Obama wants to cap the charitable deduction at what it would be for taxpayers in the 28 percent tax bracket."

Right now, for instance, taxpayers in the top bracket can take a deduction at their 39.6 percent rate. So for every $100 donated, the amount they can deduct overall would fall from $39.60 to $28."

Obama Again Calls for Reducing Charitable Contribution Deduction

To get a true measure of his charitable contributions, one really should question what they were BEFORE he became under the microscope.

I dont think Obama is a hypocrite for claiming every tax benefit he could claim. The only people that are 'hypocrites' re taxes are the people that only lose their bowels over what the guys with an 'R' next to their names pay in taxes and dont even bother with the pretense of fauxrage when it is a very rich 'D' paying the same percentages.

He wants to change the law. It's not hypocrisy to follow the law but still want to change it.

Is Romney the ****ing President?

I think we have found the source of all this misplaced anger you and your ilk have toward President Obama, he won the election.

Fine, show me the law that says you are "required" to take advantage of every deduction "permitted" by our tax laws. I won't hold my breath waiting.

It is called the law of commonsense.;)

No it is not.

If the speed limit on a stretch of road is 65 and you have written letters to the editor saying that speed is excessive on that curvy road and is causing excessive traffic accidents but then you go ahead and take the curves at 65 what are you, a hypocrite or using "common sense"?

I'm not a Romney fan, but there is definitely a double standard here with Obama supporters' attitudes toward Romney and Obama.

If someone says "Abortions should be illegal!", but they themself just had an abortion, is that hypocrisy?

You aren't required to own a gun, therefore any people who don't own guns but are against gun control tightening are hypocrites?

They would be hypocrites if they were for required background checks at gun shows but then bought a gun at a gun show with no background checks.

Obama says the rich don't pay enough tax then does everything possible to pay as little as possible, if that is not hypocrisy I don't know what is. He should have practiced what he preaches, took no deductions and paid more taxes.

At no point has he ever preached for the wealthy to not use deductibles. And he has argued for higher taxes, which in turn would raise his taxes. He would only be a hypocrite if he was arguing that everyone except him needs to pay higher. You have no idea what you're talking about.

And also, he didn't do "everything possible" to pay as little as possible. He took completely standard exemptions (for ****s sake, you are bitching in your post about him deducting the mortgage on his house, which every home owner that pays interest on their house does). As far as I know, he didn't stash a wad of money in a tax haven some where.

Get over your false outrage.

Only if they are arguing that it should be illegal because of religious or moral reasons, because then you are pushing morals on to others while not practicing it yourself. Obama isn't pushing for higher taxes based on religion or morality, he's doing it because it makes sense and we need more revenue in this country and that's one of the least painful ways that he can think of. If he were to pay slightly higher taxes by not taking any deductions, it would do the country absolutely no good. If everyone paid a little bit more, it makes a difference.
