PETA Plans to Fly Drones That Would 'Stalk Hunters'

You must do a lot of illegal hunting, otherwise why would you care if they were watching you?
I see nothing wrong with using new technology to enforce conservation laws.

Oh and ignoring laws you don't like is not "proclaimed by our constitution OR granted us by God".

So in spite of the claim PETA has made, your conclusion is any objection to their plans amounts to trying to maintain illegal hunting activity.

My guess is you can't imagine why so many find liberal thinking so vacant of logic.

What are these hunters hiding from anyway?
A drone flying overhead in a State preserve or national park is wrong but shooting animals illegally is ok?
Why do hunters get special treatment? The answer is they don't and they don't own the air over a State park either.

Is PETA the State?

Should PETA be looking into the windows of your home to see if you are abusing your pets? What do you have to hide?

Perhaps you can show where PETA has mentioned they would only stalk illegal hunting.

I see your desperate to change the subject.

Please answer the original question.

PETA stated that they would monitor hunting areas and tape and report any illegal activity. So now answer mine. What are legal hunters hiding from?

Please show where PETA is an arm of the state, given power, via the FAA, to enforce said laws. If not, then they are no different than a peeping tom.

Why do you presume that they are hiding from anything, as if the concern wasn't that the noise of the drones would scare off their prey?

IKR a hunter wants to spend the day getting away from tech and civilization and into nature to get into the primal nature of the hunt, only to be constantly following by a buzzing camera that scares away any chance of game.

That is not what they said. According the news article link accompanying this thread they claim the following.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is actively shopping for a drone that would "stalk hunters," the organization said Monday.

The group says it will "soon have some impressive new weapons at its disposal to combat those who gun down deer and doves" and that it is "shopping for one or more drone aircraft with which to monitor those who are out in the woods with death on their minds."

The group says it will not weaponize the drones, but will use them to film potentially illegal hunting activity and turn it over to law enforcement.

The operative word is "potentially" illegal hunting.

"Potentially"? So after buzzing around with a drone, chasing off whatever game might be in the area, and determining all is well, they plan to move on? Yea right.

Don't put words on this thread that are blatently false.

When their statement includes the following: "out in the woods with death on their minds", it's quite clear what they are looking to do.

As to your question, I think the answer is obvious. Why don't you go throw rocks in the water around a bunch of people fishing and tally their response.

Throwing rocks? How is a drone like a projectile?
The only thing that is clear is that unless there is something illegal going on, hunters have no reason to fear being taped and private citizens are within their rights to videotape the outdoors as much as hunters are free to hunt in it. So get used to it.

I think you are absolutely correct. Of course, I would assume PETA would always obtain necessary permits to operate their drones if and when required. If not, well, I'm sure private citizens will be more than happy to take every action within their rights to make sure the violations are brought to the attention of authorities and proper legal actions are followed through with.

Now one thing they probably need to consider. The almost certain loss of their Drones on likely every mission might put a crimp in thier strategy, and their budget.

I understand drones can be tricky to pilot.

Radio controlled small blimps would make more sense than mini helicopters. Small blimps could remain aloft for days and the majority of the time totally silence. The power of modern cameras - including thermal - would allow watching a huge area silently from very high up. If painted sky-background color they would essentially be invisible.

Unlike war drones subject to actually being shot down even at altitude, it would take little altitude for a blimp drone to be both unseen and out of the reach of firearms. Bullets don't go far straight up. Therefore, speed of travel would be irrelevant. The main purpose of the motor would be to just keep it where it's at.

Shhh! Don't tell PETA.

What an upside down world we live in today....The debate over gun control rages on....People are being drawn into supporting taking peoples private property to distribute to the collective...Rights, once proclaimed by our constitution granted us by God, are now determined, and given/taken by man....

And PETA wants to stalk, and harass legal hunters with drones....These people are just plain nuts. I'd shoot it down.

if the drones come over private property-shoot them down

"Where ya goin', Paw?"

"Goin' drone huntin'. No bag limit..."

drone shooting becomes a sport.

years ago I was shooting in a state skeet tournament as some diptard decided it would be fun buzzing the last field (which had the olympic style shooters) with a model airplane. We had 10 shooters-five would shoot 25 targets than the other 5-one member of the non shooting squad would pull the targets and referee. since I was a licensed referee I was pulling for the second squad when the drone started buzzing the field. The top shooter-then the world record holder, looked at me and said, I have a malfunction, I need to "test fire" my gun. I said sure, he went to his car, got some 3.5 dram magnum goose loads and up another shotgun he had in his car. Over comes the plane-boom-half the tail is shot off (this guy was a really good shot-most guys couldn't manage the pattern that well)

last the diptard pulled that crap.

PETA drones might require more direct hits though

yeah harassing people who aren't far lefties is ok with the "tolerant left". I wonder if you feel the same way if bible thumpers taped women going into abortion clinics or men going into gay bars?

I'd shoot them down anyway. What are they going to do about it?

They'd be more successful harassing anglers. They hate catch and release fly anglers like me, and bass anglers as well, as we "torture" the poor fish for fun. Anglers usually aren't armed, or if they are, it's likely to be with a handgun. It would be hard to shoot down a drone with a handgun, after all.

But, I hope they don't. It would be a major pain to have to start toting a shotgun on the trout stream.

What are they charging for pictures, and can I also get a copy of the video? Do you have their contact information? I would like to schedule a shoot.

Is there an extra fee for having the drone fly my kill back to the truck?

I always carry a pistol when I fish. usually a 22 to whack herons or other birds raiding the trout streams at the club

when I used to fish in remote areas I always packed as well

drones are a good reason for full automatics though

I'd think a GE Minigun on an AA mount would be ideal

You mean cost YOU money. Destroying private property is a crime.
You have to prove I destroyed it.

You will certainly be able to prove that it was shot down, but you will have to prove that I did it.

Lots of hunters in the aria...lots of reasonable doubt....

I can see future news stories of peta-tards filing lawsuits against hunters for shooting down their toys.

This here is a flex penis moment!

How big can yours get? (dont answer, purely rhetorical)

It has no phallic signifigance, its just a rifle.
