Facebook: Marriage issue prompts 2.7 million profile picture updates

Don't mean to correct you,but it isn't "God" that is intolerant.
It is SgtRocks(and other like him) interpretation of God that is intolerant.
SgtRock does not own "God".
He does not hold the intellectual property to "God".
He does not hold the copyright to "God".
Nobody on this planet does.

His beliefs about the Supreme is his and other who choose to believe the same way he does.
Maybe God should hold a press conference and clarify his stance on SSM,instead of relying on people like Sgt Rock.

If you don't like the reality that people justify their prejudices based on god's intolerance maybe you should take it up with them? Don't get mad at me because I mock their message. The sgt is above, and you may want to take this difference up with him. If you ask me the christian god is a manifestation of man, and therefor is exactly how they portray him.

The Judeo-Christian God is impotent. Impotence is often mistaken for intolerance.

Didn't seem very impotent at all when he was killing millions in a furious rage. The OT god is clearly not lacking in strength and vigor, and is definitely not lacking in the ability to take action.

The reason He killed millions in a furious rage is precisely because of His impotence.

As a Texan, I strongly believe that if gays want to get married, it's none of my business. If the government can dictate what they do with their personal lives, the government can dictate what I do with mine.

So leave Texas out of it, as though the Lone Star State has anything to do with the topic.

I am sorry, the sarge cannot come to the phone right now he is too busy nailing himself to his cross.

I was told that if I took a stand against SSM and for traditional marriage I would be attacked. That I would be called an intolerant bigot. That people would hate me. Well this thread is a testament to that. Tomorrow I turn 53 and all I can say is people have changed significantly in my lifetime. I have witnessed the breakdown of the family, the rise of the welfare state, moral decline, the failure of our education system, people turning from god, and now same sex marriage. I wonder if I will live to see the end of civilization?

Do you expect any less when you oppose a popular opinion? I disagree with you. But of you believe that the bachelor should be canceled and Vegas wedding chapels should be taken down...I suppose I can see your view.

I see the blatant selfishness and narcissism of our society as the factor destroying us. We have crappy parents, and the new generations of "Pinterest parents" scare the bejesus out of me. My generation is about appearances and not substance. And look at who raised us. Your generation (my father is 50). I wonder if the obsession with perfection and the whole future employment and getting into the right school mentality running the lives of kids today and my generation has had a negative consequence? Idk.

There are a million factors in why a society goes sideways. I don't see under 5% being the reason. I don't want gay marriage in my church. I don't know how I feel in my country. "Give to Caesar." I can't control the state and Jesus never tried to either. But keep in mind your words and actions do in fact define you. If you find yourself agreeing with Westboro baptist...be weary. It is the same as thinking similar to the kkk. They preach hate and you walk a dangerous line.

You are in agreement? Holy (no pun intended) crap I found another person who thinks like me?
Ah, I am sorry.
I meant it wasn't irony, but "truth".

But if that is still in agreement , cool!

Sorry, I just got here. Has the gay marriage debate already been resolved?

If by resolved you mean the christians who started this thread have all nailed themselves to the cross for the night pretending they were the victims because they made a hate thread and got hated for it, then for the most part yes it is solved. But don't be fooled, they didn't use real nails so they will get down. If by resolved you mean the fight for rights is over I would assume the right is going to recharge themselves tomorrow by celebrating easter in a purely traditional model based on the bible's stories about the bunny who seems to poop pastel colored eggs. As we all know that is factual and traditional to christianity while peace and love were not mentioned once in all of the teachings of jesus. I always love people who have no idea of their own traditions.

I had it up for a hot-second. My wife the next day told me to take it down, which I did to honor her wishes. But yeah, that's how I feel. Gay marriage is not equal to heterosexual marriage. I don't care if the national consensus is "moving pass me" or that I stand to be on the "wrong side of history," there are just things I have beliefs in, and contrary to the attempted public or governmental conditioning, I will not waver in my views. The issue is not suddenly going to become okay in my book because the bewildered herd is running in that particular direction at the moment.

What an individualist you are! I stand in awe of your rebelliousness. No doubt that you felt the great majority (which is Christian, I might remind you) was a "bewildered herd" when they were on your side, too.

Sure, they were falling for propaganda then as they are now. Pretty much everyone falls into the herd from time-to-time, though.

FYI -- I got the phrase 'bewildered herd' from Walter Lippmann.

indeed, he's a very violent "god."

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” - Richard Dawkins

that is interesting. On one hand you claim you will never submit to the will of others and always be hateful, but you forgot the fact you needed your wife's permission to make that your avatar. You better hope she doesn't start forcing you to accept homosexual marriage because then you would have to.

Oh, and no one is asking you to like it or recognize it. They just want you to get the hell out of the way. Your acceptance and approval was neither asked for or required. But you do have every right to your opinion on other people's marriage. There are only two different places whos opinion might count. God might count if it exists. Country does count as you get benefits from it. You are neither. Not to mention your opinion gets less relevant by the day.

LOL, old testament.

What exactly does that mean? (sarcasm)

Does this mean that god changed his mind on some things and though an "updated" version of the book that he "authored" was needed?
Just another reason why religion shouldnt be taken seriously.

Look I am not saying homosexuals should be beaten or shunned. I am just saying that the holy covenant of marriage should not change. Why can't we allow homosexual couples the same rights as married couples and preserve traditional marriage.

Because you nor your religion nor any religion owns the term marriage nor its definition.

2.7 million. Pretty weak support.

The United States has 163,000,000 Facebook members so that is only 1.6% of the total. Facebook Statistics by Countries | Checkfacebook - Free FB Monitoring Tool

That number would include all of the homosexuals on Facebook as well as their friends and college students, too.

If this is any predictor of the Supreme Court SSM decision, the proponents are going to be disappointed.

That's 2.7M in one day only. That doesn't count those who found out after. Plus, part of that 163M includes people with multiple accounts under different names (I know several of my relatives do this). Plus there are many more who have an account but don't check it often. Plus there are even more who don't put much up on their FB because it could hurt their career in some way.

ManOman, how many homosexuals have multiple accounts under different names to make it look like there is more support for SSM than there really is? I never considered that, but the number has to be huge. Damn.

More than possible. I'm just saying drawing conclusions on such flimsy grounds as you are trying to draw causes your point to collapse.

Facebook drone-like behavior is my first thought on this. Changing your profile pic to match some marketing campaign, even if for a good cause, sounds creepy to me. It's not quite like getting a Harley Davidson tattoo, but close.
