Assad Confirmed Dead, Iran Attempts To Control Syria Army

My question is different. I'm wondering why now Russia steps in. Is it because Putin and the mad Iranian see the walls crumbling around their little party?

Russia isn't just stepping in.....they have been there the Whole time. Also the Russians aren't to eager to give up their Open Port to Club Med and the Suez.

Seems I found the Confusion.....evidenced.

Syrian activists say senior rebel leader wounded.....

66f20a3f257f210a2d0f6a7067002314.jpg

A top Syrian rebel military leader was wounded and perhaps killed by a bomb stuck to his car, activists said on Monday.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the blast targeted Col. Riad al-Asaad during a visit to the town of Mayadeen in eastern Syria.

The Observatory cited conflicting reports on al-Asaad's fate, with some saying he had been killed and others saying he lost a leg. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Al-Asaad is a prominent defector from the Syrian military who became head of the Free Syrian Army, an umbrella group that tried to gather rebel fighters under a unified command.

But al-Asaad became little more than a figurehead and his group has been superseded by the Office of the Chiefs of Staff, associated with the opposition Syrian National Coalition and led by Gen. Salim Idris. That body, too, has failed to project widespread authority inside Syria, where most groups cobble together their own funding and arms.....snip~

He was a defector.....course should Assad win or hold onto power. Then traitor!

That confusion was stated by the OP abt 4 hours ago.

One thing is very certain, the middle east is in shambles and is on the verge of a regional war. This will pit, not directly of course, the United States and Russia, just like during the cold war. Putin is a cold war soldier, whereas obama is not.

If things don't take a dramatic turn I suspect by mid summer there will be war in the middle east. And may God help us!

You do know that Drudge just post links to the story of others.

You do know that Drudge posts inflammatory miss leading and false headlines to stories on other sites right, and more than often not even legit "news" organisations. Case in point... this thread.

Please identify one of the stories on his site now you feel are inflammatory or whoever miss leading is. You criticized him for his fact checking, when he posts links under whatever headline, what level of fact checking are you looking for?

Well lets see...

Main headline....

Headline is false.. it is not the same as to the link it is linking too, and the content of that link does not state that they are seizing all citizens cash, which is what the Drudge headline implies. It is miss-leading at best, and out right biased at worst. Why? oh yea, Drudge is a right wing site, and most American right wingers hate Europe and the EU. So plastering that headline does nothing but promote that idea. Fact is, it is the wealthy in 2 banks who are going to have money taken and most of them are not even citizens, but residents. So not only is the headline miss-leading but it is actually factually wrong.

And then there is the headline about the protests in France about gay marriage. It is quite funny...

Drudge writes..

"Hundreds of thousands take to Paris streets to protest gay marriage..."

While the actual headline states

"Clashes, riot police at French anti-gay marriage protest"

Oh yea Drudge never writes anything bad about the right wing... so he tries to promote his homophobic right wing views by downplaying the violent protests among right wing bigots in France... go figure! Usually he would go after France no matter what, but when it comes to his fellow right wingers and gay marriage he downplays things...

There are similar examples day after day.

Drudge is a hack of the right wing. He has lost all credibility. He use to be quite good at the start, but since he went right wing neo con nuts, then his site quality has gone down big time.

Are you sure?

I can't believe that the Egg-Man would do that.

I'm shocked.

If you can't trust the Egg-Man, who can you trust?

So is Assad dead or is it just unconfirmed rumor?
This site seems to say it's a done-deal.
Assad Confirmed Dead, Iran Attempts To Control Syria Army
Jerusalem, Israel --- March 24, 2013 … Russian media sources have confirmed that Syria President Bashar Assad was shot by an Iranian bodyguard Saturday night.

"The lone assassination pumped several bullets at point blank range into Assad," said the source. "Assad was rushed to Al-Shami Hospital in Damascus in critical condition. He died on the operating table from heart failure resulting from massive blood loss."

An Israeli security analyst believes the report to be accurate.

But, others dispute it.
Assad death report dismissed as ?ridiculous? rumor ? RT News

It's not a rumor, it's total BS.

Anyone who believes this without substantial proof would buy the Brooklyn Bridge from a Nigerian Prince. :lamo

The OP on this thread reminds me of the "intelligence" that the G.W. Bush mis-administration used to justify going to war in Iraq.

That worked out great, eh?

Ok, you gave me something to look at. Drudge does mention hundreds of thousands protesting in Paris, and the headlines are somewhat different, but the 2nd paragraph in the actual story mentions "Hundreds of thousands of people" converging on the capital.

No where does Drudge say that all citizens cash is being seized, you added the "all". He says that "Cyprus to seize citizens' cash...". The fact that it is from two banks isn't emphasized by Drudge but he is highlighting a new strategy of taxing bank accounts which to most people is alarming. Perhaps not to you, but I haven't read any of your comments on that issue.

Drudge is definitely pro gun rights and he often has stories, like the one about Jim Carrey and others who make money in using guns in movies but wants more gun control in society. Not sure how he feels about gay rights, I had always heard that he was gay, but I don't really care.

You are thus far, unconvincing.

He is probably on a ship to Cyprus to check on his deposits.

What does how screwed up the Drudge Report is (And it is screwed up!) have to do with President Assad of Syria being alive or dead?

I don't see the connection.

Just curious.

and you know fully well why he did not write about the violence.. you are just making excuses for him. He is against gay marriage and one of those that promote "left wing violence" while finding excuses for right wing violence... and in this case it was right wingers that went violent and he mentions nothing about it. Had it been the left doing the violence then there is no doubt that he would have written "Left wing riots in France". And I would bet that if he could have found a news site that slanted the reporting from France as he wanted it, then he would have used it ... but it is a bit hard to totally ignore riots in reporting over a protest gone bad.

No where does Drudge say that all citizens cash is being seized, you added the "all".

I said he implies "all". He does not distinguish and hence one must assume all. He could have written "some" but choose not too. And the fact is, a huge majority of those loosing their money are not citizens.. they are at best residents.

He says that "Cyprus to seize citizens' cash...". The fact that it is from two banks isn't emphasized by Drudge but he is highlighting a new strategy of taxing bank accounts which to most people is alarming. Perhaps not to you, but I haven't read any of your comments on that issue.

Again not factually correct. Both you and Drudge are wrong and even the article provides most of the information to debunk those views. It is simple.. if this deal did not happen then ALL the people would loose ALL their money in the banks.. The banks are bankrupt, that is the sad fact (something he also constantly "forgets to mention"). Now in this case 2 banks are being targeted.. one is being closed... but those with 100k and under are not going to loose their money, where as those over will have to pay a % in "tax/fee/bailout"... and that is a hell of a lot better than the alternative of loosing everything, which is the alternative to this deal... bankruptcy of the banking system and followed by that... the state of Cyprus. If a US bank goes under, then anyone with savings over X dollars looses that money.. it is no different here.

What Drudge is doing is typical of tabloid journalism, but in his case there is the American right wing anti-European/EU angle as well. His whole coverage of the situation is slanted for the most part.

You are thus far, unconvincing.

and you are just finding excuses for Drudge because you thought he was a real journalist and not a partisan right wing hack.

Given how hard it is to get a straight answer about anything in this civil war, I take this report about assads death with all the salt in the Dead Sea.

All it was.....was a Mix up with the Colonel's name. Though some said the Col was dead. Others said he lost a leg and was still alive.

Wow, the US, Turkey and Israel moved fast on this one. ;)
Assad Confirmed Dead, Iran Attempts To Control Syria Army
Good for Israel!

dont you think you should correct the statement in that red bold part ?

No one helped those Syrians except for one country - Israel. They have taken in dozens of wounded Syrians across the border who are now being cared for in Israeli hospitals."

interesting...........

Hmmmm ... looks like PeteEU may need to remind himself of ...
Luke 4:23 (King James Version): And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.

I just checked CNN and FOX, nothing. So I don't believe it. If this was true it would be all over the media.
Yeah ... but then again, Hugo may have expired long before it was confirmed.
Yes ... different set of circumstances.
