Jerusalem, Israel --- March 24, 2013 … Russian media sources have confirmed that Syria President Bashar Assad was shot by an Iranian bodyguard Saturday night.

"The lone assassination pumped several bullets at point blank range into Assad," said the source. "Assad was rushed to Al-Shami Hospital in Damascus in critical condition. He died on the operating table from heart failure resulting from massive blood loss."

An Israeli security analyst believes the report to be accurate.

"In the last 24 hours have we seen Assad? Any photographs or video? No. Nor will we see any as loyalists who are closest to Assad have been threatened if any leaked photos or reports reach Western media. Iran is attempting to take control of the Syrian army and its wealth of weapons as Syrian solders are now deserting in mass. I don't believe that the West will allow any Iranian control of Damascus."

"There was a reason why Barack Obama visited Israel. And it was not for a photo op with Miss Israel. I don't think Netanyahu would apologize to Turkey or to anyone. But if it was between a dead Assad and saying sorry to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan I think there was no hesitation in making that telephone call to Ankara."

The Israeli analyst said that several events have taken place in the last 24 hours including the Syrian army shooting at an Israeli border patrol unit. It is believed that this action was coordinated by Assad loyalists who stood outside the dead President's hospital room to deflect the global media from the assassination and to pull Israel into a war with the Syrian army. The leader of the Western-backed Syrian opposition coalition announced he was resigning.

Moaz al-Khatib didn’t detail what motivated his decision, in a status update made on social media Website Facebook.
But he did say that he now had the ability to “work with freedom that cannot be available within the official institutions.”

Al-Khatib also said the international community has failed to adequately support the rebels’ fight against Assad.

Opposition members from Syrian's President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect demanded his overthrow today and urged their co-religionists in the Syrian army to rebel.

"We call on our brothers in the Syrian army, specifically members of our sect, not to take up arms against their people and to refuse to join the army," the delegates said in a news release after two days of meeting in the Egyptian capital.

The Israeli analyst said that the Israeli army is on heightened alert in the North and the US is moving a battle carrier group off the Syrian coast. That the US would not tolerate any further action by Iran inside Syria and has warned Iranians to leave the country.
"Assad had complete and total support from both Iran and Russia. They backed Assad in his bloody campaign which resulted in the loss of over 70,000 Syrian civilians. No one helped those Syrians except for one country - Israel. They have taken in dozens of wounded Syrians across the border who are now being cared for in Israeli hospitals."
"We can expect to see a photo of a dead Assad within 48 hours. There are many phone cameras in the pockets of those guarding his body. One of those photos would be worth almost a million dollars to the one getting that photo out to the Western media."

Good for Israel!

The Israel Defense Forces has responded to the changing reality in Syria by adjusting its focus and training of forces to deal with Lebanon, rather than with Syria.
While the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad have reportedly lost some 13,000 men during that country's civil war and some 40,000 soldiers have deserted, Iran and Hezbollah are gaining access to the treasure trove of weapons in Syria. "They are trying and in some cases succeeding to obtain air defense capabilities, shore-to-sea missiles, surface-to-surface missiles and other capabilities," Military Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi told the Herzliya Conference recently. "Hezbollah and Iran understand that Assad's fate is sealed, and they're preparing for the day after."
So is the IDF, which is changing the assignments of some of its northern divisions to focus more on Lebanon. For example, last week two reserve brigades - one an armored brigade and the other an infantry brigade - practiced maneuvers for operating in Lebanon after years in which they had focused exclusively on the Syrian arena.

Drudge linked to Gateway Pundit this morning, which linked to Israel One and an awkwardly translated report, but then Drudge yanked the headline. I checked WaPo, CNN, and Fox, but none has a report yet, so I'm waiting.

I dont think this is true at all.
If it were at all even speculated or had better reports i think major news outlets would bounce all over this.

Online reports of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s death appeared greatly exaggerated Sunday.

Arab media said Assad was purportedly shot by one of his Iranian bodyguards Saturday night and was in serious condition.

He was supposedly taken to Al-Shami Hospital in Damascus, where surrounding roads were closed off.

But online updates said the Syrian leader’s shooting was false and that he was alive and in high spirits.

After warnings from the United Nations that international aid is slow in reaching over a million Syrian refugees, a handful of Syrian expats left Warsaw Sunday in two ambulances filled with donations for refugee camps in Turkey....UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres has urged governments to unlock the funds his agency needs to assist the refugees, half of whom are believed to be children.

According to UN humanitarian chief Valerie Amos, only $300 million out of $1.5 billion (1.15 billion euros) pledged at a donors' conference had been received six weeks later.
Aid-filled ambulances from Poland speed to Syria refugee crisis
It is feared that refugee numbers could hit three million by the end of the year.

Aren't humans wonderful? :)

Maybe......but as we've seen in the Middle-East, predicting the impact of any event is tough.
Doubtful any new regime in Syria will be friendly to Israel.

The opposition leader had just stepped down. Kerry had said this was no surprise. Hopefully we have a better plan this time.

So I'll end with this by a twitter fan:

So apparently #Assad is either dead, injured or alive'n well, unconfirmed of course.
ROFL

One can hope.....but it's the Middle-East.
I'm sure we've got lots of plans, Plans A,B,C etc.....only one as to pan out, right?

Last I heard he was supposedly on a Syrian naval ship I guess in the Mediterranean. Safe for rebel forces but vunerable to US or any other country with a navy who could sink it.

Cannot see the navy thing but the US is officially outing our dear friends Iraq for aiding the Assad regime working alone side The Iranians is arming him to slaughter more Syrians. Unbelievable!

Myself.....I doubt it will be anytime soon. First in order to remove Assad from power, this takes Competence. Which the Sunni tend to lack. Moreover the Sunni Arabs have often been found to be not to credible when they report on things.

Course there is this too.....

Syrian opposition plunges into disarray.....

Syria's opposition plunged into disarray Sunday as its president quit and its military chief refused to recognize the newly elected prime minister of an interim government for rebel-held areas.

The moves reflected deep splits in the body the U.S. and its allies hope will emerge as the united face of the opposition and advance the fight to topple President Bashar Assad's regime.

The first blow to the opposition Syrian National Coalition was the surprise resignation of its president, who said he was quitting in frustration over what he called lack of international support and constraints imposed by the body itself.

Despite electing a new, U.S.-educated prime minister last week to head a planned interim government, the Coalition has failed to make much of a mark inside Syria, where hundreds of independent rebel brigades are fighting a civil war against Assad's forces.

While al-Khatib's resignation surprised many Coalition members, some said it reflected problems that have caused five other members to resign in the past week.

Coalition member Rima Fleihan told The Associated Press in Cairo that the body did not accurately represent Syrians.

Another recently resigned member, Walid al-Bunni, accused the Gulf state of Qatar, which heavily finances the opposition, of using pressure to install its candidate for prime minister. Others have accused the Muslim Brotherhood of exercising outsized influence.

In a small victory for the opposition, senior Arab diplomats said they would transfer Syria's seat at the Arab League to the Coalition. The Syrian government's membership was suspended earlier in the crisis. The Coalition said it would send a delegation to a league summit that begins Tuesday in Qatar.....snip~

Syrian opposition plunges into disarray

Looks Like Kerry said it doesn't matter about this individual stepping down. Course just like the Sunni Arabs to say they don't recognize the US individual Obama picked to lead their alleged cause either. While Blaming all World Powers for not sticking their Nose into a Civil War.

This thread should be moved to the "Breaking News That Didn't Actually Happen" section. :lamo

You can bet on one thing in Syria: Any government that takes over after Assad is gone will not be a friend of Israel.

Assad will be dead eventually, just like everyone else .

No evidence Assad is dead yet.

Hope he is, but will need proof.

So far none of US media reported he is dead. So don't be too euphoric.

I wonder if they got al-Asaad mixed up with Asaad. I knew three Lebonese brothers once and all their first names had Asaad in them, it was crazy...but I digress.
al-Asaad the rebel colonel was almost killed in a car bomb. Lost his leg.

Yes, It was suggested by some that this is CIA smoke to sniff the dog out as to where he really is. If he's in a where's waldo picture and stands up and waves, "Hey I'm O.K.!" then we nail him.

Sméagol was correct couple months ago they knew Assad was staying with the Russians on their ship. Which led to the Rebels threatening Russia at the time. So who will be the first to attack the Russian Ships?

My question is different. I'm wondering why now Russia steps in. Is it because Putin and the mad Iranian see the walls crumbling around their little party?

It is because Syria has a Russian naval base.. it is as simple as that.
