Because, I have no problem with the government looking over the e-mails of whatever company decides to work for them. These mercs for hire get too much sensitive information to NOT be seen as a possible security threat.

When are we going to get to the point where the majority of the people don't think like you? You would think at some point people would start to actually value their rights and liberties and those of their fellow Americans. I'm not sure how many more things the government needs to take away before the people realize something is wrong.

Chrome has always been just another tool for google to take information from their customers. I warned people about this when it came out, but not a soul listened to me even if google didn't hide this fact.

Defend what position? You're crying cause some corporation handling NS information is being monitored by its employer (i.e. the government). You morphed that into your usual Libertarian rants about the government abusing privacy rights. If they don't like it, they shouldn't do business with the government. :shrug:

You shouldn't use the internet if you're that paranoid. Vauge, the owner of this site has information about you. Through your IP he could track you down to where you live. However, he doesn't. The company who hosts this forum & other sites you visit instead sells your information to an advertising giant (Google) and they get to decide what ads will be seen by you. I don't have a problem with it at all. It's a hassle of using the web.

Companies (A) will sell information ("incentives") to the government (B), it will then pass it on to security providers (C). These will search for infrastructure weaknesses that allow cyber attacks to be performed.

Free market at work.

Now, if you read that and think - OMG the government reading through our e-mails! You either have a very real superiority complex. The kind where you think anyone is interested in whatever sexting it is you do during your lunch hour - or you're simply paranoid.

False choice. I mean, unless you're that technically proficient to avoid detection and "be off the grid" while still being online, which will get you on a list somewhere in the federal government to be watched when you eventually slip-up, the average person is not going to be able to avoid the dragnet that envelops the Internet and communication spectrum. It's too involved and complicated.

In my estimation, the better route is for Americans to voice themselves in any fashion they can if they disapprove of it. The inward looking eye of the intelligence agencies on American people has gotten out of hand. I don't care if you're liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or even neoconservative, I firmly believe that as a consensus, the American public has gotten tired of the War on Terrorism's domestic policies. I say that because I think we all have enough intellectual ability to see patterns. We can also recall the "Good ole days". And we know what's going on right now. So, we know where we've been as a country, we certainly know where we presently are and (I hope) we can see where we are going. And if you dislike where we're going, then do your part, speak up, write your Congressmen or Congresswomen, Senators too! Be sure though, that when contacting people in positions of authority, that you link to information from credible sources, like the NY Times, Washington Post, etc. If enough constituencies voice similar complaints using similar sources of information that shows that something needs to be removed, elected officials would be hard-pressed to ignore their complaints.

Not paranoia, it's a simple fact... But I'm glad to note how quickly you change your tune from "not happening" to "no big deal".

I know the steps to take if I wanted to browse the web anonymously, but even that isn't really "anonymous", just makes it so there would be a real need for detective work.

Btw, there's a difference between the concepts of "paranoia", "awareness", and "delusional denial".

Oh and earlier I said that people don't care about privacy anymore... Well, the personified example of what I meant came to make my earlier point for me.

Now more private sector employees will have their emails and Internet activities scanned. Those affected include big banks, utilities and transportation companies.

Under last month's White House executive order on cybersecurity, the scans will be driven by classified information provided by U.S. intelligence agencies — including data from the National Security Agency (NSA) — on new or especially serious espionage threats and other hacking attempts. U.S. spy chiefs said on March 12 that cyber attacks have supplanted terrorism as the top threat to the country.

The Department of Homeland Security will gather the secret data and pass it to a small group of telecommunication companies and cyber security providers that have employees holding security clearances, government and industry officials said. Those companies will then offer to process email and other Internet transmissions for critical infrastructure customers that choose to participate in the program.

The administration is separately seeking legislation that would give incentives to private companies, including communications carriers, to disclose more to the government.
